Love that you're listening to some of their older works which has a totally different feel than their later songs. The Queen catalog of songs is quite extensive and spans decades. It's not often you have a truly authentic band with each member having written a top hit. They even have 2 movie soundtracks to their credit - Flash Gordon and Highlander! "Who wants to Live Forever" is written by Brian for the Highlander movie (about an immortal) and not Freddie's Aids struggle. That would be "The Show Must Go On." A lesser known song from the soundtrack is an antithesis of the previous song... it's written by John Deacon and highlights Freddie's beautiful vocals, "One Year of Love." Enjoy the rabbit hole, but save "Innuendo" (often referred to as the darker BoRhap), "These are the Days of Our Lives", "Mother Love" and "No One But You" for last. Freddie Mercury tribute concert makes for a fun watch and to see the respect he holds in the industry. THEN after you've had a break, and feeling nostalgic for Queen, you'll appreciate Roger's personal tribute, "Old Friends." 😊 Psst some other recommendations before the end songs: Save Me (Montreal concert) Don't Stop Me Now (great feel good song) Dragon Attack (one of first songs highlighting John's bass skills) Death on Two Legs (referred to by some as the original diss track... directed at their original manager and shocked Brian and Roger when Freddie wanted to record it). Fun Fact: "Millionaire's Waltz" is inspired by their relationship with the previous manager's replacement. The Miracle (official video is touching.... written by Freddie during his HIV struggle) In my Defence (Freddie solo song) It's a Hard Life (of course, love Freddie's vocals, but the official video cracks me up. The rest of the band HATED Freddie's vision and couldn't even attempt to hide it) Play the Game (again... highlights Freddie's vocals...) Like cats? 😸 Brian wrote "All Dead, All Dead" when reminiscing about the family cat he had growing up. Freddie's song "Delilah" is about his favorite feline and caused grief amongst the band when Freddie stubbornly refused to replace a valuable spot on the album with a more "deserving" song. The band was such prolific song writers they often struggled deciding on which ones made the cut.

@@RadJarrettTheIntrovert "Another One Bites the Dust" is another must. Became one of their biggest hits in America and because of the funk, it was first played mostly on motown radio stations. So much so, that people were surprised to find out Queen was a white band from England! Also, "I want to Break Free" got them banned from MTV and ruined their rising popularity in America. Surprisingly, both written by John Deacon. Freddie sells every song he sings and confirms why he's the greatest frontman.

OH! how I love this song. Roger's high notes are outstanding and the song in general is just so peaceful and nice. Freddie's piano and vocals are so strong and pure. John is holding it all together with Roger and Brian is just bringing it up in the forefront. I love the way these four boys/men were able to work as a true quartet all coming together for the benefit of the music and their audience. Not one of them tries to step on another, they work together as a unit so seamlessly. Thank you for this reaction to this beautiful song.

Lyrics are so lovely, Freddie’s piano playing so, so great, Freddie’s voice always amazing, and Roger! ROGER! Hitting those high notes! He has incredible range as well. If you listen to I’m in love with my car you will hear Roger’s lower register and his unique voice. Like Freddie, I could pick out Roger’s voice in a crowd of singers. He is just that unique as well and so good, but in total contrast to Freddie which makes their voices work together so well. With Bryan thrown in for for his softer, but still so m, so good. This song has a haunting quality to me, chilling almost. Love this song and your reaction, as always! ❤️

You need to check out the Queen song, "In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited)". It is totally different from this song other than using the term "In the Lap of the Gods" (apparently Freddie was really taken with the phrase). The "Revisited" version was Freddie's first song written to get the audience to join in the singing. Try watching the video of In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited) - Hammersmith Odeon, London - 1975/12/24 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3-5m5lrZZt7bNU ) or (my personal favorite) the medley of "In the Lap of the Gods (Revisited), Seven Seas of Rhye, Tear It Up at Wembley in 1986 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOQpoiwgdpmjcU ).

I just went to listen to a lyric version of this to catch all that was said so I could ponder on your comment about an unhealthy love. Often lovers use a lot of hyperbole when speaking to their beloved. It's not supposed to be factual but an expression of love and devotion. But in the end Freddie says he'll leave it in the lap of the gods which to me means to fate, or we'll see how it turns out. :-) Also found lyrics to a version called Leave It in the Lap of the Gods (revisited). New to me. I listened. Same song you could say, same refrain, but totally different words. Interesting. You might like to check it out at least for personal educational purposes. Roger did the high Galileos in Bo Rap too.

Freddie used to call Roger’s voice a “dog whistle” 😂. During Queen tours their sound guy would assess both voices for high notes. If Freddie’s was worn & irritated, he would adjust the mics on volume during high notes. Roger put out a few solo albums. I recently heard a beautiful song done by Roger in heartfelt tribute after losing his dear friend Freddie. It’s called SAY IT’S NOT TRUE , featuring Jeff Beck on guitar. Touches your soul 🥲. For Freddie’s high vocals, react to EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE, video is really an audio experience (not performance). Freddie wrote this melody and created the demo to send to an Opera Soprano, as they were making an album together. Your jaw will drop!! It IS Freddie singing!!!

Among all the other suggestions so far (as you know there are many when it comes to Queen fans!), I would add '39 if you want to hear Roger's patented high pitch notes. It's a song written and sung by astrophysicist Brian May, and basically it's a sci-fi folk song. A group of people travel into space in search of new lands, then when they come back home, many years have passed while they stayed young. Something to do with the theory of relativity and time dilation. This is what happens when a song writer is also a scientist, lol.
