Madonna started as a dancer and then decided to become a musician. Yes, she came from the NY club scene. This song is original to Madonna and is considered a classic, and some others have covered it since. Madonna is quite raw on her first album, but the entire album is fantastic.

Madonna started the lace and bangles trend. Her use of crucifixes, lace and netting with undergarments visible underneath it was a HUGE trend started by her.

@@BruceandCarla. She has an innate and original fashion sense. In her artistic career, she’s destined not only to be acclaimed as a pop music and cultural icon, but also as a fashion and style icon. She’s developed close collaborations and friendships with top fashion houses and designers like Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Gaultier, etc. She would received numerous awards for her trendsetting fashion style in the 80s, 90s and 2000’s.

She was so huge - one of the most famous musical performers of all time. Her early stuff was fun and upbeat, always great to dance to. Then came her more serious stuff with her Marilyn Monroe look as I call it. Her "Live to Tell" song is hauntingly beautiful which is probably my favorite of hers. I also like "La Isla Bonita" and "Papa Don't Preach". In the 90's was her Ray of Light album which was also really good. Great reaction!

Madonna sang holiday first it’s her song. She’s a professional dancer, she received a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan. Madonna started the trend of lace gloves and wearing tons of rubber bangles and crucifixes. There was a range of Madonna clothes across department stores in the 80’s.

Her first single was "Everybody", which was huge in the clubs, but didn't cross over to pop. "Holiday" was her breakthrough single on multiple charts.

Fun fact! Madonna's vocals for her debut album was pitched higher because Warner Brothers Records wanted to appeal to an even younger audience...it worked. BTW Physical Attraction from this Madonna self title album is the more street groove urban song of the album. Many people heard her on urban radio and thought she was black. Many a fans favorite.

Yes Madonna came up with post disco early 80s scenes. Her crew was a fabulous one including Debi Mazar, Keith Haring, Jean Michel Basquiat among many others. She started in dance then joined bands before she made it out on her own in 1982.

What I remember most about this song is I was 19, dancing in the club, and Holiday came on and I remember that we all thought she was black because there was no video out yet. When the video came out, we were shocked. The song was huge even in the more black gay clubs of the time. I hope you all will get to Janet’s catalog as well. Please start with her first self titled album from 1982, as many people think Control was her first album .

Cool reaction! Nobody seems to be aware of how Madonna started out-as a professional dancer. In 1979 she got signed to a record label by no other than Patrick Hernandez but she didn't like to go that way and left it. A few years later in 1982 Madonna managed to get signed again abd released her first single in 1982 called EVERYBODY. Please check out KEEP IT TOGETHER Live from her Blonde Ambition Tour in 1990.

Madonna was never signed to a record label, by Hernandez, she was hired to be a backup singer/Dancer, went to Paris with the promise his managers would make her a star. They didn’t and she went back to NY.

MADONNA FANATIC since 1983 when I was 13 years old… Fun Fact… In the late 70’s the music industry was at a stand still when sound of Disco was dying.. so the record executives with the help of icon hip hop pioneer Fab Five Freddy introduced the lower east side Punk scene… the record executives seeks out the punk bands like Blonde & others saying if they make their songs more pop radio friendly they will get a record deal. Madonna was in a punk band called THE EMMYS… her style of dress of the punk scene look.. so when she broke out on radio this look of hers was punk inspired… people went crazy and the fashion designers copied her and others punk styles and made it more main stream and mixed it with the 80’s preppy look… which made the NU WAVE sound and look. You even seen the early rappers wearing leather bondage gear taken from the punk bands… .. MADONNA started and inspired everything… anything you want to know I’m your man… there was a sampled version called The Holiday Rap… it was a guy who sampled the song and rapped on it … that was a performance video not a official music video… Madonna didn’t make a music video back in the day this was from live TV shows… MTV just started and music videos didn’t exist back then yet… they were very rare… BURNING UP was her first music video then BORDERLINE

started taking dance at age 10, had a full ride performing arts scholarship to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor for dance, left to go to NYC to become a profrssional dancer, was the first white dancer with The Alivin Aliey Dance Company, studied with Pearl Lang and attended Martha Graham's New School of Dance. is the best trained and techincally best dancers in the industry but she usually only uses modern or lyrical dance. and yes she is the original artist for holiday. the vocals of her first two albums were pitched up in her first two albums. Madonna had a life time experience when she came out, her first single came out when she was 25. her mom died when she was 5, she was homeless when she lived in NYC, raped, the struggle to get by. ..

It's fun to watch you listening to an ultra classic song like this for the first time and discussing, but it would be so much better if you had someone prep you an information sheet about the song/artist that you'd look at after watching the video. Don't drag me, but it's a little frustrating/annoying for you to keep saying "I don't know...but" and just spitballing random ideas of what you think. Asking a little work of your viewers in the comments is fine and fun (but sometimes incorrect) but It would be so much more fun for viewers if after the watctching Bruce or Carla would whip out the sheet and say "Oh, this was Madonna's first big hit, she sang it in underground clubs in NY and slipped it to a DJ to play at Danceteria and was one of the songs that got her a cotract.. Now it's considered a classic and has been remade by ____/ That's actually her brother Christopher dancing behind her" and react to these facts as you spill them. Anyway, keep up the good work becaucse it's a fun show. Peace
