to me, stoicism isn't the *lack* of emotions; it's fully and completely owning your own emotions, and being realistic about them.. it always seems to me most people I see tend to think it's sort of an absence of emotions.. but, I find it most helpful when instead you're using your emotions to guide you. It appears you're feeling this strongly because it was a difficult thing to endure ! I think anyone would feel the ways you felt, and it's reasonable to cry and feel strongly. To deny yourself that would just be, well,.. sort of dishonest to yourself, which would be such a shame. I think you're so strong for taking care of what needs to be taken care of, and I hope subsequently that it helps you to take good care of yourself during what I assume will be a period of grieving and a bit of pain. You're an awesome person, from what I can tell, and you'll continue to be awesome for years and years to come. please don't feel like you ever need to hide your feelings from *anyone*,! One of my favorite Stoicism quotes from Marcus Aurelius is; "All you need are these: the certainty of judgment in the present moment; action for the common good in the present moment; and an attitude of gratitude in the present moment for anything that comes your way.” :') im sorry if this is a gratuitous comment, but I can't help myself since I heard you mention stoicism so many times (more often than I feel I'd normally hear, haha!) and I find myself very smitten with the philosophy since I was about your age (I'm 33, now). I even got the words "Amor Fati" tattooed on my knuckles ;) I hope you can continue on to embrace all the change in your life as something wonderful! Ultimately, we never stop growing. you're doing amazingly.

stoicism isn't theavoiding emotions. It is the dichotomy of control. We can't control that we are sad or when we cry. But we can control the actions that those emotions will bring.

Flying somewhere to help an ex move out is wild. If I really felt like being nice and had to make up something, I would offer to pay half the mover fee or something lol

The flight to Portland was like $20 lol cheaper than any movers Also I had to see the apartment clean with my own two eyes to make sure I got my deposit back If I could’ve paid my way out of it believe me I would’ve LOL

Exposure in different ways can be helpful and therapeutic for certain people
@courtadbobtail600

@@Glockuto2 That's not true, what you're talking about is exposure therapy and it involves gradually exposing yourself more and more to certain things that trigger you in order to overcome that emotional sensitivity, not exposing your personal life to the rest of the world.

@@courtadbobtail600 Exposure in different ways can help different people, the textbook exposure therapy way of doing it isn't the only way. If you think it is then you're naive, respectfully.

@@courtadbobtail600 Bro forgets a lot of psychology hasn't really caught up to the modern digital age of the internet, i see no reason why exposing some hurtful parts of your life on the internet can't be therapeutic in a sense for some people. She could find sympathy or empathy from others who have maybe gone through a similar situation and etc etc. Different things work differently for different people, not everything needs to be categorized into a black or white box and held under strict 1 to 1 definition. That's not reality dawg.
