@@msyusof7349 what screwed him up was the return visit to her home when Madam Luo made the comment about the household affairs. He immediately thought she was plotting just like her sister. He didn't give her the benefit of the doubt because he was so use to all of his wives plotting behind his back so he assumed she was the same. That little assumption put him in the doghouse for a long time..lol

@@msyusof7349 I do the same. I've rewatched this series a dozen times trying to figure out when he fell in love with Shiyi. I think he took notice of her during every encounter but it wasn't until her mom died that I finally understood him. I thought he was cold and heartless but the compassion he should her changed my mind. His wife and concubines were the reason he was so distant. Every last one of them had an angle. They didn't see him only what he could offer. I felt so bad for him especially when he admitted to General Fu that he never felt that way before. Four wives and he was never in love with either of them. It has to be a miserable existence. I can see why he chose to stay on the battlefield. In the carriage he knew he screwed up...lol He didn't know how to respond after that because she was right. I think he expected her to be like his late wife because they were from the same family. It took him a minute to see her but when he did he fought for her.
