@ajo56023 жыл бұрын
As a sleeping car passenger you have access to the lounges in major stations (in this case the Metropolitan Lounge in Chicago and the Magnolia Room in New Orleans). Lounges have seating, live tv, bag storage, complimentary food and beverage, and even showers in Chicago. Probably the best perk is that those in sleeper accommodations and business class seats get priority boarding and board directly from the lounge. An Amtrak employee escorts you from the lounge directly to your train.

I enjoyed your video. I have ridden all the AMTRAK rail routes west of St. Louis making connections at times in Chicago and K.C. and it was a great way to see The West. I also enjoyed taking The Canadian back and forth between Vancouver and Jasper as part of a trip through Seattle. They were five weekend to weekend trips between 2001 and 2013. Not for everyone as it was too much a long haul for my wife so I did four on my own and thought they were a great adventure.

@larryloveless29673 жыл бұрын
@@victoriacardenas7738 Yes, they were all from one weekend to another from St. Louis and either 7, 8, or 9 days. The years were 2001, 2002, 2004, 2009, and 2013. All but one trip was done solely in coach and there were advantages having nobody next to you at night when you could stretch out more. I only used a hotel near a train station when making connection with the next day's train but sometimes that meant getting to take a trolley tour of a city that I also enjoyed. Fortunately I worked at the same company for 40 years so I got plenty of vacation days. It was like I was selling it to my wife how cheap I could make the trip and she was happy letting me do them on my own. I got the idea watching our PBS station on great rail journeys of the world. I really like the Superliner observation lounge car with the large windows to hang out. I met other rail and travel lovers there as well so did not feel alone. My last trip though in 2013 to complete the amtrak west routes was done though with a promise to her I got it out of my system. I enjoy seeing the KZbin videos such as yours on rail travel. I got lucky to end up doing more rail trips anyway a few years later with a daughter who my wife made me be a travel companion for her on her trips to Europe for her peace of mind. I was sure lucky to see Europe as I never expected to do so. I think it helps if you like history like me going there but also enjoyed the scenery of the countries of the Alps. I made sure we rode the rails there doing so. Their high speed rail is amazing.

Hi Jacki! Thank you so much for taking the time to view my video. Well I took an Uber from the train station to our hotel. The distance was about 15 to 20 minutes. And! The hotel I stayed in is called La Quinta. Literally walking distance from French Quarter. If you don't mind walking 15 minutes from the hotel to French Quarters I definitely recommend it.

I am from NOLA, the train literally arrives in downtown New Orleans next to the Superdome and Arena. You are 1 mile from Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. So depending on your pace, a 10-15 walk. Additionally, there are numerous options for transportation: cabs, ubers, pedi-cabs, buses, and street cars that will bring you to the Quarter for a fee.

Nice account of the trip. A few things that will improve it next time. Google Maps on your phone will track your journey, assuming you have wifi. I have ATT and it worked all the way to NOLA. Bring a small divided container for snacks. I used a $2 fishing tackle box with several compartments and filled them with strawberries, cheese, beef sticks, and whatever else you like.
