The thing about durian is, you need to eat it step by step or gred by gred. Musang king and black thorn are the top of the line. If you start with either one, the other will taste less or inferior compare to them. Cuz musang king/black thorn taste is really strong. Haha. And you want more musang king/black thorn. You should try durian with sticky rice. Next lvl man, next lvl. If you at penang, you can go straight to the durian orchard, and eat the durian there that is fresh from farm. With quite reasonable price.

Food made of durian- 1. pulut durian. Kinda similar to mango sticky rice, except they just use durian. 2. Serawa durian - idk how to describe this, but it's kinda like durian base porridge cooked with coconut milk & gula melaka. my family either eat this with sticky rice or roti jala. 3. There was one time durian crepe was so popular and viral in msia. 4. Tempoyak- fermented durian dish.you can try this if you're realky adventurous in your food tasting. Mark wiens said tempoyak might be the best food he ever tried in 2019. The most popular dish out of tempoyak is gulai patin tempoyak. Msian especially malay make tempoyak side dish with ikan bilis, or prawn. Some people use chicken too. Regardless of type, I always buy the ones that have been broken/intruded by squirrels. Normally the squirrel will only take 1 piece fr a durian fruit. The rest of the pieces would still be in tact. Squirrels know how to get the best ones. These broken durians are not normally sold as they have no market value but to me they taste the best. Even if they are sold, it would be super cheap. @iskandartaib3 жыл бұрын
This is quite close to where I live. I've been to the durian buffet place all of one time, though.. .😁 Musang King prices were through the roof around the time this video was made. This year's season the prices have dropped a little but Musang King was still RM30 a kilogram. I did have some durian, but only the kampung variety. I don't know if anyone's explained this yet - a "Musang" is a civet - sort of like a racoon. They climb trees and the sides of houses, eat all the fruit on your tree, and attack kittens. They'll make nests up in your roof, too. The Musang King got it's name from Gua Musang (literally "Cave of the Musang"), a town in Kelantan, because that's where it came from, and I guess someone was looking for a good brand. Malays used to call it "durian kunyit" (i.e. "turmeric durian") due to the color of the flesh. They needed to write it in Chinese, so they used the characters for "Mountain Cat", because it sounded similar - "Mao San". So in China and elsewhere it's known as the Mountain Cat Durian. Supposedly the prices are sky high because most of it's being exported to China, and the reason the prices were lower this year was because exports were disrupted due to COVID. Because the prices are sky high, some unscrupulous people (syndicates) have been clearing forest in forest reserve areas in Pahang to plant more trees.

We cannot keep durians for more than two days in Malaysia. Unfortunately many westerners ate durians that had traveled more than a week in a freezer before ended on the shelves. That's why their friend would brain wash them about its smell being like onion, rotten and fermented cheese. Durians need to be eaten fresh within two days. The durians you ate most probably picked up just in the morning.

@theepotatomesh51004 жыл бұрын
Yes this is so true. Newly "falled" durian are best to consume within 2-3 days, the taste will differ once u kept it too long after it is riped. I supposed among the reason why some foreigners hated the durian taste overseas is bcs they are not truly able to get the "fresh" durian nor the best way to consume. There's also the consideration of injected durian(or any other fruits) at that, that will definitely change the taste and ripening time of the durian. As in my orchard, at least our durian is free from such thing, but you did need to wait for a long time bfr u can even enjoy it's fruits. The modified durian these days, beat those time. I remember my mom used to say, elderly people back in the days, planted durian seed not really for them to enjoy but rather it's for their descendants, bcs back then some durian takes up to even 10 years and more bfr baring any fruits. And here in my village I still hv our durian orchard with durian trees having a diameter as big as 2-adult-men hugs and extremely tall.

For me the easiest way i can cook durian is making durian's soup (serawa durian) and eat with gardenia bread 🤤
@StudentOfGod4 жыл бұрын
Dude, I didn't know the name for that and so when I saw "durian soup" I was like "WHAT?!" even as an avid durian lover, then I googled it and went, "ohhhhh, so that's what it's called." Lol

My late uncle, whose was very much of a hantu durian once told me that it's the durian that chooses who to like them and not the other way around. 😁

I almost spat out my coffee when you said the 2 ringgit one was probably just as good as the musang king. There is no comparison. Cheap durian are usually not as tasty and one dimensional, just sweet or bitter etc but musang king is full and strong flavoured. It has a much deeper depth of flavour and complex aroma. It’s similar to having blue cheese, if you can’t handle strong flavours musang king is not for you. It really is a treat cos it’s really expensive.

no net price for durian, it depends on season, supply and location . Sabah Durian Fest for example, there are seller who offer you to "makan sampai kenyang" for only RM10

There's like a proper way to eat durian if you're trying alot of them, from bitter to sweet so it doesn't mess up your taste bud.

Glad you enjoy them. Durian tree is a type of tall woody tree. Nothing like coconut tree.

1. Musang is Civet, not Fox. The original tree was planted in Tanah Merah Kelantan but commercially planted in Raub. I heard the seeds in Raub came from Gua Musang, a place in Kelantan bordering Pahang, hence the name Musang King. 2. What Abang Ajib shared with you before became useful when Ah Heng showed the professional way

I don’t see any commenting on this so here goes : McDonald’s has a seasonal durian McFlurry most every year, so keep a lookout on that, plus in malacca you can find Durian Dodol ( a kind of mochi sweet), and yes there’s also durian crepes which you can find at Mid valley and some shopping complex areas

Durian is best to eat with warm Santan (Coconut Milk) added with a pinch of salt and some sugar. This is heaven in the mouth.
