If you are a beginner first time user, practice with just water in your backyard and fence. Most biggest accident is sprayer is under tremendous pressure and you turn the knob (or prime / spray switch) make the hose in the paint can jump and splash paint all over somebody’s room. When you clean after work, always turn the switch to prime position to relieve pressure and ( turn power off) then pull the trigger after removed tip. My point is when you are not spraying on the walls or ceilings never pull the trigger with pressure. Sometimes we forget especially when we are in hurry and those accidents make you clean the mess all day.

Thanks for the video. Not sure if someone already asked these questions. How much over-spray/mist does it make while you are painting? From what I can tell you made the ceiling and the walls same color. Do you think it would be hard to paint the walls and the ceiling two different colors? Not sure how hard it would be to keep the ceiling clean from the over-spray/mist while you're painting the walls at where the wall meets the ceiling.
@GettinBelizy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy! Very little mist. The overspray only reaches a few inches in either direction if you are proper distance from the surface. Painting ceiling and walls two different colors would require wide tape or a hand held paint shield, so it would be a bit of extra work. Happy spraying!

Chris - I am just a novice at this. Last year I brushed and rolled my pergola - back breaking and took a lot of time. Had a privacy fence installed last year and plan on staining it. So, to save my back, I am buying a sprayer. Your tips are invaluable - learned a lot. You have not commented or videoed a fence project. I am looking at Cabot semi-transparent stain (used on pergola). This is an oil based stained. Can you comment on staining the fence with oil base stain and on the cleanup of the sprayer? Should I look into a different product to apply to the fence? Thanks

I have to ask about the job taking 4 gallons of paint to complete just 360 sq. ft of wall. That to me seems to be quite a lot of paint. Unless of course you laid on 2 or 3 coats. @GettinBelizy4 жыл бұрын
Learning a sprayer is definitely NOT a quick process. And there's a lot of debate about back rolling / brushing. As I understand it, back rolling is only necessary to enhance adhesion and penetration. I've had many pros tell me they only back roll on rough or unpainted / no primer surfaces - like siding, fences or highly textured walls that have never been painted. The room in this video was very lightly textured and had been painted before. The sprayer laid down a great coat of paint with good coverage and adhesion in one coat. We haven't had to back roll / brush anything yet.

I just got mine and it leaked so much from the handle area, cleaned it up and finally work but the prime I used kilzone 2 was runny, not sure if it was the primer paint type but definitely disappointing, gonna try it again tho. Thanks for the video. We're needing to do ceilings and floors in a similar size area and I'm trying to decide between rolling and spraying. Thoughts? Thanks again.
@GettinBelizy4 жыл бұрын
I think a big factor for a room of this size is flooring. If you already have flooring down, it will take a lot of masking and taping time, and the masking will need to be done well (any mistakes in taping could ruin the flooring). If you happen to be replacing flooring as well, then spraying is a great idea! All your spraying can happen prior to putting new flooring down and you'll be well ahead of the game. If you aren't replacing flooring (like us in this video), the time and attention it would take to tape and mask may balance out the time savings that comes with spraying over rolling. Let us know what you choose!

Thank you for the great tutorial. I have an All Pro 2400 which is ,I guess is the same as the Graco Mustang 2400 at least that is what my receipt says. We painted my sons home exterior. Was curious what kind of paint you have tried? I am debating between Behr Marquee or Behr Ultra supreme? Thank you again.
@GettinBelizy4 жыл бұрын
We've used Valspar Basic (the room in this video), Sherwin Williams for two sets of cabinets (I forget the paint line but it worked very well), and Behr Ultra. The Behr paint was a complete failure but only because it was far FAR too thick. We were newbies still and didn't know how much you really must thin down thick paint. The Valspar was perfect for walls and ceiling because it's already very thin. I'm not sure about exterior paints - we haven't tried that yet. I assume there will especially be the issue of paint viscosity there. They do make products (usually called 'conditioners' or 'flow control additive') that are designed to thin paint for sprayers. You might try that if using a thicker paint. Happy spraying!

Would be nice if you had a close up on your spraying. Too far away to see the pattern or how you are spraying it. The reason why you had paint build up on the bottom is because a lot of inexperienced sprayers will pause slightly at the ends of a spray motion thus more paint build up

I was using this and got very annoyed... It kept getting clogged up and I had to reverse the nozzle to unclog. I thought maybe the latex was too thick? I watered it down and even strained the paint but that didn't help. When i run pure water through it I never see that problem... The nozzle I used was a 415 I believe. One thing I didn't do and is the entire textbook priming process. I simply placed both tubes in paint, primed then painted.
@GettinBelizy5 жыл бұрын
We had some clogging issues with latex paint that was too thick. We did try a latex paint conditioner from Wagners - it seemed to help a little. But, after that, we just went with thinner paint because it was so much easier and our areas weren't high traffic. We did have to spray twice with the thinner paint to get good coverage. I would suggest using 515 tip just in case there's some restriction there. And clean the tip and nozzle *thoroughly* after each spray session. Good luck!

You've had the unit for a while now... Have you attempted to use it on smaller areas with alternative tip sizes?... I'm concerned about the INTERIOR of cabinets that I'll be spraying. Can this thing be "Dialed back" enough with a smaller fine finish tip to allow hitting the confined spaces without loading it with runs and sags? I'm not new to spraying (automotive) but have never used an airless like this with latex paint or acrylic clears. Input from anyone who's sprayed cabinetry would be appreciated.
@GettinBelizy4 жыл бұрын
Great question! We actually have done two separate large sets of cabinets with the sprayer since this video (I'm still working on the video edit - will post soon), but yes, we did have trouble inside the cabinets and at odd angles / distances on the frames. Once we (1) switched to a 513 tip, (2) thinned the paint and (3) dialed the unit as low as it would go, we managed a fairly good result.
@_Common_Logic_4 жыл бұрын
@@GettinBelizy - Thank you for the reply... Was your 513 a standard tip or was it one of the 'newer' FFLP tips that spray at roughly half o the pressure? I'm seeing where they shoot at about 1000 psi versus standard finish-tips that traditionally require about 2200 psi. If you came remotely close with a standard 513 at minimal pressure settings I'll take that as pretty good news. I thought the new Graco/Titan FFLP tips might be a marketing gimmick, but after (way too many) hours in the 'research-rabbit-hole', they seem like the real deal.

@@GettinBelizy - Awesome!... Looking forward to it I'm going to pull the trigger on this thing (pun intended) and try it out after some smaller test projects to get used to the airless. Another bonus of these tips is almost zero "bounceback" from the walls and WAY less overspray. In addition, your tip (and consumer-grade pump) should last longer by not forcing such high product pressure. As a non-professional, I'm just looking at a more "manageable " spray and less product waste. I know that *both* an HVLP AND an airless is the better solution but *the budget is boss* when you're just a DIYer... I'm looking at the 210 tip... Only a 4-inch fan for the cabinet faces as to not waste paint. Maybe I'll end up grabbing a 310 or something for the doors, drawers, and future projects. We've tried both ways. In the video Mike is spraying top-down and bottom-up. We started to see too much paint buildup at the baseboards. So, Hilary painted top-down only and the little extra buildup at the ceiling wasn't nearly as noticeable. But that may not work in a room with crown molding. Here it worked well because a little extra coverage at the ceiling wall joint didn't hurt anything.

Thank you! I'm a bit concerned that it won't apply enough texture to cover the tape/bed seams. It leaves very little texture.
@GettinBelizy5 жыл бұрын
Hilary was correct in the reply above but this is Mike here and I can add some first-hand perspective. Last week I shot cabinets and cabinet doors with semi-gloss. Much light sanding prep took place before/after primer coat and between several paint coats to smooth the surface and remove any errors such as runs. The end result after a flawless final coat was VERY smooth and entirely without texture. When painting walls that are already textured, it's hard to tell whether the spray process adds any amount of texture. After my recent cabinet painting experience, I would say that painting with an airless sprayer leaves NO texture at all. The viscosity of the paint may lay flat over very slight imperfections in the surface beneath and thereby obscure them, but paint applied in this manner will not leave any texture at all. If you need texture, you'll need to apply it first by your method of choice.
@aijem4235 жыл бұрын
@@GettinBelizy Thank you both for the very detailed response! I have done hvlp on cabinets with much thinner paint and that leaves no texture at all. We learned that too! We used one on the second room we sprayed (9 ft ceilings) and it was very helpful.

Can I use this to spray joint compound?
@GettinBelizy5 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. In fact, we were glad we 'accidentally' used really thin paint (no primer mix) because the gun wanted to clog even with simple paint. I think you need a special sprayer (different than the x5) for anything thicker than paint such as texture.

Good job, thanks for sharing. Question for anybody that can help me figure out what is wrong with me or the new sprayer. After I primed started spraying fine, then gallon of paint was almost empty and sprayer stopped working and shooting a fine stream of paint instead of spraying. I added more paint and sprayer worked for 3-5 minutes and stopped again and only shooting stream of paint, waited a couple minutes and heard the machine noise like charging air, then worked again. This repeated the whole day. I primed again ans same problem came back over and over. It took me half a day to paint the inside of small shed instead of 30 minutes. Do somebody knows what the problem might be? Is it normal for sprayer to stop working every 3-5 minutes or it should work non stop? Please advise.

You should really use a spray respirator not those dust masks

@@GettinBelizy You can breathe easier with a cheap $10 respirator..literally and mentally. Acrylic latex in atomized form is NOT good for you!
@animalyze71205 жыл бұрын
@@dh66 This tool doesn't atomize as bad as heavy duty industrial units do , so yes you can get away with using cheap disposable dust masks. Yes respirators are better.
@johnurseth74295 жыл бұрын
Animalyze71 still tho, my boss who’s been painting for 30 years chewed my ass out for not using a respirator spraying latex, same with stain. And if you use stain stripper even just brushing it on use respirators. If you’re gonna do it often spend the extra couple bucks so you don’t screw yourself when your 55
@GettinBelizy5 жыл бұрын
Very true. After our initial trial run, we decided the same. Now we use a respirator on all spray jobs - even latex. Better safe than sorry.

Nice instructional video, but I was pretty offended by the “simple enough for a girl to use” comment. Women are not idiots and women do interior renovation just as much as men do. What an incredibly sexist and unnecessary thing to say.

4 gallons of paint damn that thing sucks down paint. could have painted that with 1 gallon and a half with a roller and brush
@GettinBelizy4 жыл бұрын
It does use more paint than rolling, no doubt. But, 4 gallons did this entire large room, the 3 alcoves and all ceilings. It was a lot of surface area.

@@GettinBelizy How many coats did you apply to that room? If it was two or more with 4 gallons that's pretty good in my opinion . thanks
