@@JB-ys8ct Thanks, I sort of guessed but didn't know exactly. I also thought I'd seen people accused of this just walking along the side of a road, probably I'm mistaken. Sounds strange only to be able to cross at a designated crossing. Impossible to do without walking miles in much of UK.

The modern building opposite the Houses of Parliament is St Thomas's , one of London's most famous hospitals. It originally was located elsewhere in London and has been providing some form of healthcare since before 1215. It is part of the National Health Service (meaning people are treated there for free) and is also an important teaching hpspital.....

I live in South London and have been walking about 15km/day with my camera all over the city for several weeks (I'm off work). It's incredible what you find, especially if you go off the common roads. One of my favourites is the 'Thames pathway' on the north side of the Thames, going east from the centre, which is absolutely full of old wharfs etc. You can really feel the history, smell the tide etc. For culture, there are also great high streets like the mod/punk vibe of Camden High Street, or the massively arty and diverse Brick Lane in Shoreditch. And following the canals that run east to west north of the Thames is always fun, with a lot of cool things going on and great architecture etc.

Enjoy London! Remember to look left when crossing and watch out with your phone / camera as there are moped thieves / thieves in general. Try to keep two hands on phone and be careful when having your phone on a table (keep it in pocket ideally rather than on display) as thieves will come in and place a map / newspaper over it or distract you and then take your phone. But enjoy there's a lot of great things!

Glad you had fun visiting London. Just so you know Big Ben is the name of the bell. The building is Elizabeth Tower. The Monument to the Women of World War II, is to honour the millions of women that came forward during the war to cover the jobs primarily done by the men away fighting. Not just the women of the UK and the Commonwealth but all Allied countries. The UK flag is called the Union Jack (or Union flag). Please never feel rushed to leave a restaurant. Nobody would have bothered that you were chatting with the other lady, while giving yourself time to make more room for the rest of your food. It was also nice to see that you felt safe travelling the city in the dark. Hopefully next time you have enough time to visit the rest of our wonderful isle. There is so much more to see and experience. Safe and happy travels.
