So many great elements in this film. The empty streets of London are really unsettling. The note Jim's parents left is heart-wrenching. Frank, just... damn. He was a good dude. Eccleston's character is a real monster.

One thing that really freaked me out was how fast someone turns once they're infected. In other movies, it usually takes a few hours or even days to fully turn. Here, it's like 10 seconds. That makes it worse because you have mere seconds to destroy your wife or your kid or your best friend in the world. You have to or you'll probably be infected too. Devastating.
@jerodast
@jerodast 2 ай бұрын
Also makes it not really biologically plausible, which is kind of a shame because it otherwise doesn't rely on "magic" since it's not reanimating anyone. Yes there are things that could stop your heart in seconds, but hijack your cells and reproduce itself enough that it could almost instantly spread to the person next to you from your vomit? Too much. Don't get me wrong I still have no problem loving it, I just always wondered if there could've been a way to make that part more realistic.

This is the movie that started the "fast zombie" subgenre", of which Train to Busan is just one of many examples. At the time, zombies were always depicted as Romero-style, shuffling, slow, and more-or-less mindless. Changing them to fast, aggressive, and just as relentless was a terrifying change up.
@IH8YH
@IH8YH Жыл бұрын
its was a nice twist in this movie but every other subsequent movie that used this was just lazy writing as you dont need to work so hard on the script and shooting of the wild to create suspense. FAST "Zombies" is to Horror movies what Shaky Cam is to fight and chase scenes... its Lazy and its stupid.

These aren't zombies. The infected people in 28 Days Later can run fast because they're infected with a rabies-like disease, but they're still alive, and can be killed a variety of ways. You don't have to just shoot them in the head. This film has a lot more in common with David Cronenberg's 1977 horror film Rabid than it does with anything George Romero did.

That was actually unintentional. You can see the kid's mouth doesn't move to match the words, because the kid isn't actually saying it. It was a sound effect added in initially, to give the editors an idea of the visceral nature of the scene (they did this in every scene), and it was never properly removed. It's not supposed to be canon.

Fun fact! For the opening shots in empty London, they didn't really empty the streets. They filmed at sunrise (like 5 in the morning) so no one was there. Then when the bus was overturned, they only had an hour to film because of the crowds of people needing to go to work so they put the bus in, flipped it, then put it back before anyone really knew what was going on. This film did a million different things to give it that grungy 2000s look considering it was one of the first major films to be filmed digitally. Look into the filming process its absolutely fascinating :) Edit: I don't mean grungy, but it definitely has that early 2000s aesthetic.

They wanted to flip it outside Downing Street (outside the PM office) but the city council told them to move it somewhere else. When they rocked up around 4am, and found no one from the council was present, they quickly flipped it there, shot the scene and flipped it back all in a matter of 20 minutes. Brilliant!

I'd just like to point out how interesting it is to hear someone say these are "Train to Busan zombies." Where EVERYONE who is in the horror/scifi community, at least in the west, calls these types of infected "28 days later zombies/infected." Or "rage infected/zombies," which is referring to this movie 99% of the time. It's so wild to hear someone who absorbed these ideas "backwards" in time.

The original planned ending was for Jim to die on the operating table. there was also another Arc planned for the whole hospital as well for a separate ending as well but it didn't make it past the storyboard phase. After the movie originally showed at the UK they shot the scenes with the Jet and them being found due to the big amount of money they got to film this more happy ending. glad Kat watched 2 of my favorite horror films back to back. In the original ending Jim actually did die from the gunshot. Selena and Hannah tried to revive him in a hospital and he died. They walk down an empty hospital corridor in the last shot, basically nothing to do but continue on. It’s a very somber ending for sure and I think the studio didn’t want it to be too depressing for general audiences, so during the ad campaign for the film they would advertise to stick around after the credits for an alternate ending (aka the original ending). So in theatres, you did get to see both.

Kat, you gotta watch Day of the Dead, the Romero movie from 1985. It's my personal favorite zombie movie. I think you'll enjoy it. 6:31 I don't consider them zombies at all. They're not dead. They're alive. The nature of transmission is also entirely different. the rage infection causes the infected party to vomit blood, which seems to be the primary form of transmission. The fact that these infected can starve to death, and the fact that is one of the biggest issues with zombies is that they will continue to roam and rot slowly indefinitely... is why I don't think it's fair to call them zombies. They're closer to The Crazies. We don't call rabid dogs "zombie dogs" they're infected with a disease.

Fun fact? It originally ended more optimistically, with the group discovering a doctor who explains that a total blood transfusion can reverse the illness. However, since they established that the infection can be spread from as little as a single drop of blood making contact with the naked eye, they realized that wasn't particularly believable as solutions go. I mean what were they supposed to do? Whitewash every capillary in the dad's body before they gave him fresh blood?

If they really had a biological agent like that in a facility the security would be impenetrable. A bunch of silly animal rights activists would not be able to get in. They would probably have an active nuclear warhead buried under the facility, primed to go off the moment there is a breach in order to contain it. They used to run bio agent research sites like that in the cold war.

What I never understood about this movie is how the virus got overseas. If it infects people so quickly, they never would have been able to get onto a plane or anything while infected, and I doubt they would have allowed a knowingly infected body to be transported overseas instead of being incinerated.

Danny Boyle always delivers and remains one of my favorite directors. For a little sci-fi horror from him, try Sunshine, also with Cillian Murphy. For the horrors of addiction - Trainspotting, with Ewan McGregor Though not horror, there are some horror elements in Trance, Danny's slick heist movie with James McAvoy and Rosario Dawson. It's well worth a watch.

I feel obligated to point out this is an "infected" film rather than a "zombie" film, as they aren't actually undead, just basically rabid. The sequel is pretty good as well. Another somewhat similar film with a scarier, more claustrophobic atmosphere is QUARANTINE ( a remake of the Spanish film REC), which takes place entirely in a quarantined apartment building. I strongly recommend checking it out if you don't mind never sleeping again.

People put way too much emphasis on directors. The truth is it was Richard P. Rubenstein, the producer who had a decades long career with Romero and Stephen King and his the inspiration came from own past works. Snyder was just a director that was willing to stick with his vision. Rubenstein in the Horror genre has a career spanning decades in probably more horror movies than most people have ever even seen. Decades after his continual work with Romero and King, Zack coming onto the scene for his very first movie doesn't show me any of his influence over those oldschool pros who you can clearly see the parallels in past works. Only looking at directors and assuming they're the sole influence is why you can see similarities. If you want inspiration look to the producers who inspired the initial vision. Directors are just the hired help to carry out the visions. Not the catalyst of them.

Actually, the theatrical version featured a different ending. Jim, the main character, actually dies on the operating table. The 2 women then walk out the room, in a long shot camera view and then the film fades in black.

I am so happy you left in the clip of the infected kid yelling "I hate you!" Your reaction to it was awesome a lot of reactors are so taken by the scene they miss that. The military soldiers were there the whole f'ing time. I think the leader of these soldiers placed that body there. Expecting birds of prey and scavenger birds. They would annoy someone enough to drop infected blood onto the most hot headed one when they believe they have no hope. Psychological warfare tactics against the people they are supposed to protect. Multiple men can be a problem. They thought one man would be containable. Controllable. And expendable. "Last week, I found Jones with a gun in his mouth." Me: should've let him do it. I absolutely loved the fact that you caught on to one true treasure of this film. The guitar starting song at the end. It's called, In a heartbeat. Me and my buddies when I was a teenager used to game halo 3 infection with that song on repeat for hours and hours. If you want to check out a more light hearted horror I'd recommend Tucker and Dale vs evil. Hilarious. Also you caught on to so many things so quickly I've seen so many reactors save maybe Dasha. But she didn't even catch the amazing atmosphere the, In a heartbeat, song made the entire scene. You might hate horror movies but dang are you quick to pick up plot and key notes and points. Super impressed!!! And can't wait to see more content! Btw the reason for all the product placement was because this was a super ambitious team, the film was an independent film. Meaning it wasn't funded by the countries mainstream "Hollywood" for their country. They had to directly contact companies to sponsor the movies while sponsoring them in the movie with product placement in return. Luckily most of the actors loved the idea of this film so much they lowered their fea and did this movie dirt cheap. And at least two of these actors are legendary actors in today's standard. Frank was in Harry Potter. Cillian Murphy, our main protagonist, was scarecrow in batman begins and in peaky blinders as the lead. So they scavenged every dollar from multimillion companies so pay for so many of the shots it's incredible this movie was made. Its my favorite zombie/infection film.

Such a well done movie. Still love watching it all these years later. My only complaint is Christopher Eccleston playing the terrible leader of the soldiers. Not because he's a bad actor or because it was a bad role. Because he was my first Doctor on Dr. Who. I love him so much that seeing him in such a dark role makes me sort of uncomfortable. Which in retrospect might have been exactly what Danny Boyle intended. Having said all that, I do love watching you watch these movies from a genre you very openly do not like. Stepping out of your comfort zone and seemingly enjoying some of those films. Super cool reactions.
