I saw this in 1979 in a cinema. Watching it on a tv screen is no comparison. In the cinema it is total immersion, it feels like you are on the ship, no escape. Even the titles at the start gave you the creeps. On the big screen you can't see the whole screen in one glance, you must scan from one side of the screen to the other looking for any sign of what's going to happen. Totally scary. Back then there had never been anything like this, you didn't know what to expect. Today we are spoiled with endless big budget special effects, back then this was all new.

@@Hydrogenblonde agreed nothing ever compares to the theater for me. I can see how this movie was such a big deal and is still a great movie to this day.

Agree. I also saw this great film when it first came out. The large theatre was packed, and nobody knew what to expect when the lights went down. From the opening scenes we were all immersed into this futuristic world inside the bowels of the isolated ship as this alien creature was pursuing us through the shadows. The tension was almost unbearable, and we all shrieked in unison at every jump scare and horrific scene projected before our eyes. The large theatre felt claustrophobic and filled with tension as we sat glued to our seats in the dark watching this incredible horror movie unfold. There is really no comparison in watching "Alien" on a TV screen with the lights in the comfort of one's home on versus seeing it for the first time in a darkened theatre filled with terrified people.

issue with shooting the Xenomorphs: their blood is corrosively acidic. they ran the risk of explosive decompression if the blood were to reach the outside

yup already recorded aliens 1986 which will be posted after this. I'm gonna watch all the alien movies up until the newest one alien Romulus. wasn't sure if I should do Predator but now I will. never seen those either. keep the suggestions coming!

People always say shoot it (the xenomorph). Not a great plan as its blood would splatter and destroy anything in its vicinity, especially a human being. Flamethrowers don’t actually work to kill xenomorphs, it can only slow their progress.

This does not take place in the year 2037. That "2037 INTERFACE" is something like a program number the captain uses to communicate with MU-TH-UR 6000, the on board computer, normally referred to as "Mother."

"It's got a great defense mechanism. You don't dare kill it." Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it. The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy. Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell. Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash (Ian Holm) autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights. Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay on how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.
