The werewolf transformations for both films were created by the great Rick Baker. He had promised Landis he'd work on American Werewolf, but the project kept getting pushed back, so Baker accepted an offer to work on The Howling. Shortly after they finished pre-production on Howling, Landis called Baker and said that AW was a go, so, true to his promise, Baker left his second-in-command to finish Howling and went to work on AW.

One of the best movies of the 80s for me, the fact that they did ALL of these effects without any cgi is so cool, while the story is simple and the structure of the movie certainly ain’t perfect it’s both the werewolf scenes and the relationship between David and Alex that work for me, John Landis has always had a very specific style and this movie perfectly encapsulates all of it P.S: there was a terrible sequel called An American Werewolf in Paris (1997) and it focused on David and Alex’s daughter (yes you read that correctly he got her pregnant)

"See you next Wednesday" became a bit of a meme ater this film. It just occurred to me that Jack seemed to decompose very quickly. It was 3 weeks before David woke up, then he saw Jack, who said it was 2 days till the next full moon, and he looked freshly dead. Then the night before his transformation he is green, then the next afternoon at the cinema he has flesh falling off him. I had forgotten about the dream he had of his family being murdered. I think you cut out the most poignant part, where he calls his family to tell them he loves them and attempts to slash his own wrist.

I suspect the pub owner was a fan of this movie because the old pub sign (now sadly gone) featured a hungry looking wolf (not a fox) with slavering jaws and a red lolling tongue feeding a sweet innocent lamb with a bottle of milk. Each time we left the pub to go back to the adventure center you had a choice of going the longer way back on the road or a short cut across the moor. Every time people choose the shot cut you'd hear "Stick to the road lads. Don't go on the moor!"

The Howling is good and then there's my personal favorite Ginger Snaps directed by John Fawcett and screenplay by Karen Walton. It's a film series made in Canada and really has a cult following. Practical effects were used just like American Werewolf. Ginger Snaps is more Horror/Drama. Highly recommend watching the series if you haven't seen them

Yes, Ginger Snaps! I thought the first sequel was good too, though not the third.

This is the director who made the thriller video with michael Jackson, You can see the connection in the transformation scene.

The original "The Wolfman" with Lon Chaney Jr. as the Werewolf. It's a short movie, but well written and acted for the day. 1941 I think it came out.

Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein might have been the first horror comedy.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think John Lands also directed the Thriller videoclipe. Midnight Madness is another good movie with the same actor of this movie.

Frank Oz, Miss Piggy, Kermit and The Muppets - it was all a coincidence that they appeared in this movie.
