One of my favorite bits of trivia is about the scene in the car. Thing is that Tom Wilson, the actor who plays Biff, is an absolute sweetheart irl. In fact, he was actually bullied in school himself, so he found the character difficult to play. During the scene when he’s forcing himself onto Lorraine, he was apologizing nonstop to Leah Thompson in between takes.

@@crayzeewhorse It was! From what I understand, that was only really early in development but, yeah, they thought about Doc making the time machine out of an old fridge! Then, they realized that if it looked too much like a fridge it might encourage kids to climb inside their fridges at home (which would obviously be dangerous). A number of fun Easter Eggs in this movie. Most have already been mentioned (Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall, Huey Lewis rejects Marty's band, etc) but there's another one I don't think has been mentioned yet: The guy who runs the tree farm is named Peabody and his son's name is Sherman - a subtle nod to the old Peabody & Sherman cartoons where Peabody uses his time machine (The Waybac) to teach Sherman history by visiting significant events.

Honestly, it always made perfect sense to me that the teenage Lorraine would be drawn to Marty (besides the obvious fact that she has a bit of a Florence Nightingale complex, as Doc points out). Because Lorraine is completely unaware that Marty's her future son, she would naturally feel drawn to him for reasons she wouldn't understand. Of course, the actual reasons are that she's seeing bits of herself (things she finds comforting and familiar) alongside bits of George (someone she will one day fall in love with). So, that combination of seemingly inexplicable familiarity, paired with traits she finds attractive would create the perfect storm for her to misunderstand the connection between them. It's only after she kisses Marty and gets weird vibes that she realizes the connection she's feeling isn't actually something romantic/sexual (but, more familial).

This is one of the tightest scripts in existence--almost EVERYTHING serves a purpose, whether it be for the plot (the "save the clock tower" flyer), characterization (he can't take that kind of rejection), a callback joke (twin pines versus lone pine), or even a reference to another movie (the CRM114). There's a reason this script is taught in film school, because it is SO DAMN GOOD.

Another actor played Marty ( Eric Stoltz). The film was nearly completed when Spielberg watched a ruff cut and was not happy. The actor was fired and replaced byFox. They re shot Marty’s scenes and used scenes that were already shot. Somewhere in a studio vault is a 1st cut of this movie.

My absolute favourite detail about the movie, is that the flux capacitor wasn't supposed to work.. the thing he drew after hitting his head was not a bright idea, it was actually just the pathways in front of the city hall in downtown hill valley, its 1:1 the same design. but somehow he made it work..

One lovely thing I noticed on rewatch is that almost every character gets a sick introduction: 1. Marty - no facial reveal until after he’s shown to be a skateboarder, rock star. 2. Doc - only his inventions and his voice for the first 15 minutes. Then badass DeLorean intro. 3. Young Loranne - only her voice at first, then the reveal that she’s smoking hot after knowing her middle aged version. Even Biff and George get fun reveals as their younger selves. Great film.

Soooo many little things to find in these movies after re-watches. For instance, the Mall's name at the beginning of the movie is 'Twin Pines Mall' and when Marty goes into the past he runs over a pine tree escaping the farmer that's shooting at him. At the end of the movie when he returns to the present the name is 'Lone Pine Mall'.

Saw this in the theater when it was brand new and when George knocks Biff out, the eruption from the audience was insane. On par with the bump Captain America had with Endgame (no spoilers there, but if you know the moment, then you know). Such a great film and such a fun reaction. Fun fact: My dad's high school senior picture resembles George McFly more than I think he'd care to admit. No, I'm not as cool as Marty. One more thing: "You guys are just too darn loud" - the teacher with the megaphone shutting down Marty's band at the auditions was played by HUEY LEWIS, the very guy whose music (and megahit song "The Power of Love") and the song Marty's band was beginning to play for the audition, was featured throughout the movie. I hope you complete this trilogy. It really is a fun watch. Keep 'em comin'!

27:37 Marty does indeed get to "go back early" and try to warn Doc, but he isn't able to; fortunately, he doesn't need to verbally warn him, since Doc decides to tape Marty's message back together again so that he can read it after all; he consequently wears a bulletproof vest to the Twin Pines Mall --- or rather, the Lone Pine Mall --- and thus he is not killed when the terrorists show up. :D

I don't know if you noticed but in the beginning of the movie, Marty meets Docs at the "Twin Pines Mall" parking lot, but when Marty goes back in to 1955 and drives away from that barn he crashed in he runs over 1 of two trees, and then at the end of the movie when he goes back to the future the sign says "Lone Pine Mall". There are a ton of other small changes like this that you have to re-watch multiple times to catch them all. IMO BTTF 2 and 3 are just below BTTF 1 simply because the first is the original, but all three are amazing movies and when you watch them back to back to back its a very nice experience

I guess Alex didn't notice some of the other changes to the timeline as well. For example: The part at 6:35 you see it's named "Twin Pines Mall". Well, Marty ran over 1 of them when he went back to the past (not shown in this video). At 29:34 when the "Marty from the Past" returns to the mall, it's now named "Lone Pine Mall". You will obviously see in Back to the Future: Part II but that's just another example of the multiple timelines and even minor changes that happen due to Marty (well, some unintentional ones). It also proves all these changes can lead to different alternate timelines, which some are better and others worse. The Back To The Future series is one of those that watching it multiple times, you will notice other things you missed on previous viewings.

YAY!! This is so good, omg. And yes, part 2 and 3 are really good too. Keep an eye out for the things you can tell inspired Endgame, there are some obvious things in part 2 especially that you'll notice were the inspiration for big plot sections in Endgame, but the Back to the Future trilogy is where it started. Also, fun trivia - but the teacher at 3:45 that says, "you're just too darn loud" is played by Huey Lewis, the singer/songwriter who performed the "that's the power of love" song in the movie. Funny little easter egg.

About Back to the Future 3: The get the maximum out of the humor in that movie, you should watch "Goin' South" (1981, Jack Nicholson) and "Time After Time" (1979, Malcolm McDowell). Those were Mary Steenburgen's first and second films, and a lot if not most of the humor surrounding her character in BttF3 (she's the third lead) calls back to those two films. The first is a Western and the second is a time travel story, and BttF3 is in great part a tribute to both those movies. It stands up fine on its own, but the humor has a lot of levels, so FYI.
