The Black Knight in the Marvel comics Anti-hero who can be good or bad that it seems Kit Harrington will be playing this character in future films. But the introduction of Black Knight means there are now Vampires in the MCU and the voice you hear in that scene is actor Mahershala Ali who has been cast to play Blade the Vampire killer in the MCU. And because the Ebony Blade is now in the MCU, it also means Excalibur will soon be in the MCU and this was carried by the character Brian Braddock who is Captain Britain. So with Black Knight, Blade and Captain Britain you have 3 new 'British' Marvel heroes in the MCU. In comic Blade was British, but because African American actors can't do British accents, he has been American in movies.

Kingo leaving was because he refused to fight his family. Any of them. Regardless of the stakes, it wasn’t worth it to him to choose between fighting one group of his family or another group of his family. The thing I really liked about this film, was how the main protagonist, was essentially a pacifist. She was a caregiver, and provider. Not a warrior. And they point that the reason she was the one to lead them, was she had the most compassion, and empathy for the people of Earth. I dunno, I just, liked seeing a main hero, who wasn't the main hero because of their ability to kick ass, but because of their ability to care for others.

The story sets it up as them being the main antagonist, but very little actual time is spent on him, so when it's revealed he's not the actual antagonist of the movie, what time they did spend on him, felt pointless. Just a way to point you away from the betrayal that's going to come, since if there was no primary antagonist, the audience would see it coming.

To answer some of the questions, Dane had the Ebony Blade, it's basically a dark Excalibur that gives magical resistance/immunity and can cut through basically anything but at the cost of gaining bloodlust and lost sanity, it comes from back in Medieval times with his ancestor Percival from Arthurian legends (often called Percy of Scandia in the comics). the voice at the end of his credits scene is the voice of Mahershala Ali portraying the character of Blade, a half-human half-vampire vampire hunter. Blade has movies that were made prior to the MCU existing with Wesley Snipes in the title role and Marvel confirmed a few years back that Mahershala will also be getting his own Blade movie at some point. As far as the MCU goes, you currently have Hawkeye and No Way Home left to watch, then you'll be caught up on Phase 4 until Moon Knight in March and Multiverse of Madness in May. I would highly recommend watching the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies before watching No Way Home if you haven't already, I won't say much more other than the trailer shows that some of the villains from those movies show up in No Way Home. As far as other stuff to watch in the MCU I'd recommend the non-Disney+ shows, there's 11 (arguably 12) of them with 28 seasons between them, they are Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, Inhumans, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders, Punisher, Runaways, and Cloak & Dagger. Some would argue they aren't necessarily required viewing, but Marvel does seem to be using at least some of those characters again, so it would be helpful to better understand who those characters are and everything. At the very least watch Agent Carter, as it's Peggy's show that takes place after Captain America 1, and the 6 Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders, and Punisher) as Marvel has pulled characters from those already, and will likely continue to do so, that cuts you down from 28 seasons to 15. I'd also recommend the 3 Fantastic Four movies, if only because you're almost done with the X-Men movies and because Marvel has announced that they are making a Fantastic Four movie. Most agree the 3 Fantastic Four movies aren't exactly the best movies, but they'll at least give you an idea of who the characters are and everything for the upcoming movie.

Dane Whitman is the descendant of The Black Knight. The Ebony Blade was carved from a meteor, and enchanted by the wizard Merlin for Sir Percy of Scandia, the first Black Knight. Due to all the blood that Sir Percy shed with the blade, it acquired a curse. Anyone who uses it will increasingly succumb to the violence the sword brings out, which is why the Ebony Blade's case had "Death Is His Reward" inscribed on it. The voice that you heard in the last end-credit scene is that of Blade (Mahershala Ali), who knows the history of the Ebony Blade.

Chloe Zhao has said in interviews that she had full creative control and Marvel/Disney allowed her to try and experiment with whatever she wanted. This is the only Marvel film where almost all the sets were real and the lightning was natural, not artificial. They actually built the entire Domo and the entire city of Babylon and Technotitlan and so on, and used very few green screens. As for the end, the voice belonged to Blade, the vampire hunter, whose solo movie starts filming this summer.

@32:05, In the comics each Celestial is defined by a name followed by a function like Eson The Searcher or Gammenon the Gatherer. Arishem's full name is Arishem The Judge. So the way they ended the movie dovetails with his position in the comics.The Celestials basically go from planet to planet seeding life. Sometime much much later Arishem comes back and does an assessment of that planet's progress. If Arishem doesn't like what he sees, he literally gives a thumbs down on the planet. The Celestial Exitar the Executioner (who is ten or more times bigger than other Celestials) arrives to wipe out the entire biosphere and they start over. So it will be interesting to see where that judgement storyline goes in the next movie.

Druig (Barry Keoghan) is an Eternal who can control other sentient beings, a power he primarily uses to control humans and stop them from fighting as he sees fit. His inspiration may have come from the Greek deity Dolos. Dolos is a minor deity known for being a spirit of mischief and trickery capable of deceiving others into following his will and even tricking the other gods. While Dolos isn’t known to control minds, his trickery and skilled manipulation make it likely that he was at least partially the inspiration for the movie’s version of Druig.

Your remark about 'tell don't show' is definitely one of my main issues with it - I really didn't buy the relationship with Sersei and Ikarus OR Sprite. I also think they kind of shuffled Kingo off a bit, and also there could have been way more with the Deviant who was gaining sapience (especially since they both had cause to rebel against the Celestials). It was a good movie but I think it was just a bit over ambitious with how many characters the tried to shove in. I agree that Druigg and Makari had about a million times more chemistry in minute of screentime they had. I also kinda felt that Arishem should have been more angry about them killing a Celestial (and whatever happened there should have already destroyed the earth). Honestly, I kind of wonder why he even told them the plan anyway since he could have just not told them anything. Maybe it just never occurred to them that they would rebel. But I also kind of roll my eye at the tropes of a)human civilization/progress = aliens, and also b)Earth/humans are just so special. Like you said, I'm sure people loved and created on other worlds. I get that their reasoning was that seeing them beat off Thanos made them rethink things, but it's not like other planets weren't involved in that (or had their own amazing feats against all hope). So the movie was a bit of a mixed bag for me - I liked it, it was fun to re-watch on the reaction, but a few things dragged it down.

They needed to spend more time with the world building to make us truly care about each character and understand their motivations and actions. When Druig finally broke, or Phastos finally broke, it was understandable, but we (the audience) didn't really feel it as much as we should have. It would have been a lot more impactful if they spent the time to tell those stories in a richer way.

It's not really world building, it's our history and world with a superhero spin, not much "building" go on with that, Shang Chi has world building, it's constantly explaining and exposition dumping and people loved it, Eternals problems stem from character development entirely, it gives us ideas and themes but doesn't explore them even slightly, like it would've been nice to see Druig's cope with not interfering over the centuries of war or how Phastos dealt with his creations being used for total genocide, none of that is expanded on and it skips right past all of that development so we're left with wooden characters and cliché final battle moments instead of actual interesting plot development.

@@dontreadmyprofilepicture8817 I still think they did some world building. Introducing a whole new specie of life in this universe and also introducing the celestials makes it world building. The problem is they didn't have enough time to expand that whole concept and of course that also affected character development. That's why I said a 9 episode series would have probably done it well. As you said druig and phastos have compelling stories which we didn't get to explore because of the time limit. I read someone saying that maybe the movie will be better if all the flashbacks happen in the beginning and not during the movie, and sometimes I think that will make sense. For example you have Druig saying Phastos gave up on humanity, next you see the Flashback to understand that, but literally the next thing you see is him with a family and Sersi saying didn't you give up on humanity? Or something like that. It's like the movie itself downplayed the flashback from 5 sec before a bit.

There could be many reasons why they didn't make a show out of these characters... i mean, im sure it would be SOOO different if it had turned out to be a show! Probably no Chloe Zhao, the story would not be this big, the special effects wound't be that great. And they wound't present these characters and this big of a cosmic mythology in a TV show! It reaches more people in the cinemas.

+Natalie Gold Dane Whitman is one of the many who have taken the mantle of “The Black Knight”. This isn’t a spoiler considering it was in some of the press material prior to the release of this movie. But apparently they changed a lot and cut his part wayyyyy wayyyy down which is unfortunate because he was one of thee only characters I actually I don’t know cared about instead of being told “you should care about this character see look they smiled at a human once”. ALSO the director and Kevin Fiege confirmed that the mysterious man’s voice we hear in the last post credits scene with Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman character…that voice is none other than the incredible actor Mahershala Ali WHO WAS RECENTLY CAST AS *BLADE* 🧛🏿‍♂️🦇🩸🗡. Which has me extremely excited!! Imagine Kit Harrington becoming the black knight fighting monsters alongside Blade, Moonknight, Werewolf By Night (a character who is going to be featured in an upcoming Marvel HALLOWEEN Special for Disney+). It would be so much fun!

Dane’s secret is that he is the “Black Knight” It’s kind of like a family curse. The sword he was looking at is the “Ebony Blade” and it corrupts its user the more that it is used. Think of it like the ring from Lord of the rings…. Lol

I loved watching your reactions, and share your hope that we get a proper sequel; this truly was a beautiful chapter both in the sense of the MCU and as it’s own story. I share the opinion that this movie always needed a follow up and these characters are meant for multiple appearances; it’s the only true way to really naturally get us so invested in 10+ new faces.

I enjoyed how... different the movie was. It's not your mindless, cookie-cutter MCU formula where good guys are good and pretty and awesome and they have to defeat evil because evil needs to be vanquished. MCU for some time experimented with different themes, different storytelling ways but to this moment they were trapped in that hero frame. This movie was free of it and - while I do agree that it should've been a D+ series because as a movie it was a long ass exposition dump] it shined because of it. So many accents on characters and their struggles, so many negations to your usual superhero formula. From Makkari being deaf, to Ikaris being torn between his sense of duty and devotion towards his fellow eternals, Sprite and the toll of being portrayed as constantly young, Phastos and the burden of his knowledge and how destructive it can be... it's a different superhero world. It's a world filled with awesomeness sure but also with struggles, fears, sadness which in a way makes it more relatable. And the whole story is told in such intimate way.... aaah. I understand the critique of this movie and I agree with it, but it's a shame it wasn't recognized more. And I agree that now that we've done with the introduction aspect of this movie, a sequel can truly shine in many aspects. Lets just hope we'll get one.

I really, really enjoyed that movie. It's probably one of my favorite in the MCU. I actually got more attached to these characters than for Sam, Vision, Hawkeye, War Machine and others in the movies they first appeared (I'm talking before the tv shows on Disney +). Here, at the end of the movie, it feels like you learnt at least one important thing about each character, about their personality. I don't understand how people couldn't care about these characters when for the first time they all feel really human (even if they're not ahah). So many interesting themes are developed: love, family, mental illness, second chances, loyalty, beliefs, betrayal, helplessness,... It's a love letter to our planet, to humanity and to these human feelings. Moreover, the relationships between the characters are in my opinion pretty well developed. It's not like one big family in which everyone has the same relationship. You can see that some characters are closer than others, that some characters resent other characters,.... For a 2 hour movie with this huge cast....I think they did pretty good.

Earlier in the movie, Sprite named dropped a sword called the Ebony Blade. That scene when Dane opened the chest, that’s the actual Ebony Blade. One specific detail I know from the comics is that the sword itself has a curse in which it feeds off your dark personalities. Eventually, just like in the comics, Dane will become the Black Knight.

I actually re-watched Eternals this afternoon before seeing you had a reaction here. When I saw it at the cinema I wasn't really that captivated but on second viewing it was better. I think my main issue was that with Phase 1 of the MCU we had stand alone films which introduced you to the characters and gave them some history before bringing them all together as an ensemble in Avengers. With this film we were given too many new characters all at once and there wasn't enough time to get to know them all properly. Also I hope Harry Styles acting gets better for the future of his character because from the small scene he had it just seemed like Harry playing himself.

This movie would have been way easier to relate to if the Eternals had been limited to just Sersi, Sprite, Ikaris and the man with the husband. I don't remember or care about any of the others from the one showing I saw in November. I also think Kit Harington's role should have been bigger. I'd have cared about Sersi more if her relationship had been like Thor's with Jane Foster.

I really enjoyed this movie but I think it would have worked better as a short series. There's a ton of stuff that got cut out because of the runtime and it's unfortunate. I still really like to re-watch Eternals tho. Edit: to be fair, judging by the sales not many people actually watched Eternals in the theaters. And now you can easily watch it on a TV so in my opinion it would have easily worked as a series. Loki also gets very cinematic.

Thena and Gilgamesh never had a romantic relationship. Their relationship is that of the mentally handicapped patient and the loyal caretaker. It's a great relationship to see on screen, since you rarely ever see it in movies. Caretakers of those who can't help themselves are an unsung hero that need more representation.

The fact that the biggest criticism most people levy towards this movie is that they wanted *more* of the characters to 'believe' their relationships to me is just indicative of how overblown the problems are. Sure, it has those problems that prevent it from reaching it's full potential, but the characters on an individual level are well done and extremely likable overall, and the plot IMO is great. Being unable to flesh out that many relationships is inherently a flaw of the movie medium, and why many people think it should've been a series instead.
@AzaMinis

Naw. Nat is totally right. This was a giant exposition bomb, and they "told" us stuff rather than having it "show" organically. The characters were flat and one-note, and we weren't given any reason to actually care about most of them. Ultimately, the only things that were really exciting in this movie were the aspects that set up for further MCU movies.
@Waytothedawn63

@@AzaMinis I never even said she was really wrong. I don't think the criticism means the same to everyone, but most of us can admit it's there. Perhaps I should've watched more of her review portion, I admit I'm a click-awayer, but it didn't feel like that despite the criticism she held of the movie, that her distaste was as strong as you are suggesting.

I like Eternals because it's a tribute to Classic Cinema. Longer runtime, more dialogue than action, an emphasis on the limitations of a setting, and my favorite part, allowing the viewer to use their imagination to fill in the blanks. I also enjoyed the "slice of the life" documentary type of story about getting the uni-mind back together. Save all the extra stuff for a series that can co exist with this because the only Marvel director to win an Osacar was always meant to make FILM!
