The Small Council scene is brilliantly done. Tywin sits at the head of the table, the centre of power and authority. Baelish hastens to sit next to him, as close as possible to the real power in Kings Landing. Varys is content to disappear in the middle of the crowd. Pycelle is left at the end. Cersei arrives last, and moves her seat to her father's right hand, the position of the principal advisor. She moves behind all the other characters, but in full view of all of them, like her schemes and plots. Tyrion sits at the foot of the table, the lowest of the low in direct opposition to his father. So characterful and meaningful.
@renlyspeach76227 ай бұрын
I always read the comments to make sure I'm not being redundant. You beat me here, and well done to you. I will add that Tyrion pointedly seating himself opposite his father could be interpreted in another way. There is the concept of "coming to the table" meaning negotiations for peace. While that isn't the literal circumstance, this is the first meeting of the Small Council in its current composition, with Tywin physically present as Hand. This is the first time they are (literally and figuratively) sitting down to work together. So, the symbolism could be said to apply. And here it is. The reasons that negotiations were held at tables were to even the playing field. The table served as a physical barrier to prevent enemies from attacking one another, removing martial advantage. Sitting across from one's enemy allows them to look each other in the eye, an important part of honest communication. And it removed the king from the raised dias their throne, where one sits to pronounce law, to a place of equal ground, where things can change, and power is no longer absolute. Sitting himself across from his father may have actually been a power play, of sorts. A statement that he isn't just a lackey like the rest of them, that he isn't accepting the lowest position. I won't assert that this is the correct interpretation, but it's interesting for me to think about.
@s1lm4r1l67 ай бұрын
@@renlyspeach7622 That's what I meant to an extent. Tyrion is the only person there with the guts to sit directly opposite Tywin, openly declaring his hostility and preparedness to meet his father's gaze.

One of my most hated change from books to show is in that first scene. Edmure misses the shot in the books because he's so wracked with grief over his father's death, not because he's just useless. They don't do his character justice at all in the show, which is a shame because he would've been a favorite for many people if they had.

In my estimation. Kraster is a widely misunderstood charter. What more can you ask from a beliver of the faith? I always get such a chuckle out of Lindsay. She is such a character and, I believe, a whole lot more clever than she gives herself credit for. She picks up on subtleties much better than I did on my first time through. As a thank you, here's a bit of trivia for you all. In case no one else has mentioned it, the actor playing Locke (the leader of the men who captured Jaime and Brienne) is Noah Taylor. He has been is many movies but you may be familiar with him as Mr. Bucket in 2005s "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny Depp. The man has incredible range in his acting talent.

You must hand it to Jamie, willing to lend a hand to Brienne. Jamie single-handedly gets them to unhand Brienne. Does that make Jamie a second-hand swordsman? Will this somehow prevent Jamie from ever being a hand of the king? At least he can give a first-hand account of the incident. Apparently Roose Bolton has given Locke a free hand in how to handle prisoners. I thought the underhanded Locke was going to use a hands-off approach.

The accuracy people get with longbows in this show, is pretty absurd, and totally impossible. The bow itself is in the way, so it kicks the arrow off to the side. And how much it does so, is totally inconsistent and depends on the stiffness of that individual arrow...which varies with temperature and humidity and a million other variables.

@@MugShotzReactsOh, that's why you do it. That's awful. Can you not prevent it, somehow? Either disable autoplay, or manually stop it each time? Certainly at least one of those must be possible. The music and sound design in the credits is sometimes a big part of the experience of an episode, particularly some of the "big" episodes where it's differently than usual. Like, say, Hardhome really hits a lot harder if you let the credits roll with sound, and especially if you always do that-- the crashing waves and faint eerie music stand in such a stark contrast to the music you're used to, if you're used to the music... 😊

One thing I can't stand about the actor for Little finger is that he constantly uses his whispering voice rather than his normal voice. Now, perhaps this was purposely done since he is somewhat of a whisperer (spy/gossip/411) but it's just a pet peeve of mine. I can't stand it when any actor/actress uses their whispering voice almost the entire time they are playing a character. I wish the director would have been like "HEY! stop whispering!!" LOL. Other than that he did a good job playing his role. Haven't watched ya'll in a while, got some catching up to do.

The funeral ritual they do for cat's father is a real world one. The vikings did the flaming boat-coffin stuff.
@SelvesteSand2 ай бұрын
Vikings buried their dead. They did sometimes involve boats, using an upside-down boat as the inner structure for a burial mound, or decorating the outside of a mound with stones forming the shape of a boat. The thing with burning a body on a pyre on a boat *on water,* though often seen in movies, is a Hollywood invention. It wouldn't actually be very practical, as it would just lead to a partially burnt body washing ashore with next morning's tide.
