Look closer. All that happens BEFORE he's the Keymaster. After he's the Keymaster, he doesn't seem to have any trouble getting into, or out of, anywhere... from being arrested by the police, committed, or detained by the Ghostbusters. Also, isn't it curious how the door to an obviously open, very busy restaurant is locked? Vinz Clortho cut off his escape by locking the door!

@@TheRagingwerepanda That was an old animated show from the 70’s that only did one season. Then when the movie came out, they figured they could capitalize on the name being big so they restarted the animated show to try and cash in because they also had some disagreements about how much they were paid to use the name Ghostbusters which they owned from the original animated show. So when they came out with an animated series based on the movie, they named it The Real Ghostbusters.

@@elzar760 Close, but the original show was live-action (the ape was someone in a costume), the the filmation animated version follwed the adventures of the OG main character's sons -- and the gorilla. I saw soe episodes on VHS. It was about the same quality as 'Sigmund the Sea Monster" or "H.R. Pufnstuff." Edit: I o-so vaguely recall having a 'ghost gun' air rifle, that my father would use to shoot any ghosts that were lurking in my bedroom after dark. In 1975 there was a tv series with 2 men and an ape called The Ghost Busters. It was....bizarre to say the least. This version of Ghostbusters was the brain child of Dan Aykroyd who wanted to make an effects heavy epic. He wrote a treatment and shopped it around the studios to no avail. Producer Ivan Reitman saw something in the concept, so he invited Dan, and his friend Harold Ramis to his cabin for the weekend, and they came up with the framework for this film. After Columbia settled a suit brought on by the company that released the show, they were allowed to use Ghostbusters as 1 word. Stick a pin in that, as it factors later on. After this film became a MONSTER hit, that compan sued for Royalties. The settlement of which (from the merchandise and VHS sales) ensured a sequel and a cartoon series(called The REAL Ghostbusters) which got a sequel series called Extreme Ghostbusters. While the sequel wasn't as beloved as the first film, it was still hilarious and has risen to cult status. This was helped by the 25th anniversary game Ghostbusters The Video game released in 2009, penned by Ramis and Aykroyd and reuniting the cast from the first film (after the 3rd film was in development hell for decades. In 2014 then Sony president Amy Pascal greenlit a reboot (which killed the efforts of a sequel). The reboot was.....not great. Fortunately for fans of the franchise, there's a sequel to the originals due in November

The scene where Ray dreams that a ghost goes down on him is from a scene that got mostly deleted. There was a haunted house that they were staying at for the night to investigate, and one of the ghosts actually did that to him, it wasn't meant to be a dream. Even though the scene got cut, Dan Akroyd insisted that the BJ scene be left in somehow because (and I'm not joking) he is convinced that something exactly like that happened to a friend of his in real life.

Actually, you got that half right. The director was intended to give Ray a love interest in the film, so he decided with a gorgeous female apparition. And thus, both of them got into a one night of 'juicy' passion....... *I cannot believe I'm saying these* Anyway, director was thinking about putting this "scene" back in after all the hard works of the crews yearning to see the results. PS: The actress who played the ghost was Kymberly Herrin, who was a former Playmate of Playboy Magazine 1984. Now, you can see why she was a fitting role for this sensual character. ^^

There's a story behind that "hands out of the chair" scene. They kept having to reshoot it. Because the "hands" weren't being aggressive enough. For obvious reasons. Finally Sigourney snapped and grabbed the hands and moved them herself. Assuring them that any incidental groping would be forgiven. The Ghostbusters theme song was the subject of a copyright lawsuit. They had originally wanted to hire Huey Lewis to write the song, but when that didn't work out, they hired Ray Parker, Jr. instead. They gave Parker very little time, and he came up with something that sounded a lot like Huey Lewis's song I Want a New Drug. Lewis sued for plagiarism and won. If you listen to the two songs you'll see that they are very similar. When Ghostbusters first came out I thought Stay Puft Marshmallows was a real brand. Actually, they invented it for the movie. Since I learned that, I've wondered why they didn't sell marshmallows with that name as a marketing tie-in.

The cartoon came out years before the sequel, and it actually ties in directly to the original movie. In fact, one of the episodes explains what happens DIRECTLY after the events from the '84 movie. For a kid's show, it actually has some really cool storylines regarding the supernatural and some memorable characters such as the Boogeyman, Samhain, and the Sandman. If you were a kid in the 80's and a Ghostbusters fan, this series was a cant-miss.

Just a heads up. Prior to the movie, there was a show called "Ghost Busters." It was a comedy about two guys and a gorilla. After the success of "Ghostbusters," Filmation created a cartoon based on "Ghost Busters" called "Ghostbusters" (although later "Filmation's" was added to the title to clarify). As a result, the cartoon based on the movie had to change the name some in order to separate itself from the Filmation series, and thus became "The Real Ghostbusters."

The bit where Venkmen asks the Librarian if she's manstrating is a question that would have been asked in a paranormal investigation. Other questions possibly asked are if she is or had been pregnant recently, if she were on any particular medications or illegal drugs, any history involving a head injury to herself in her past from recently to as far back as early childhood, allergies, drinking problems, and if there was a history of paranormal encounters with herself or family members. The questions seem silly, but a lot of the time it was just a means to figure out if it's possibly ghosts or aliens and not just the person imagining things or tripping out.

However, it is the sequel where his values really start to change for the better.

In part two there wasn't a big need for ghost busters. Supernatural occurrences had all but stopped until Vigo the Scourge of Carpathia the Sorrow of Moldavia showed up. Two foreign films that deserve more exposure: A British comedy I saw on cable back in the 1990s was The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill And Came Down a Mountain. It's about a Welsh dispute during WWI, & is really funny, in the trademark dry British humor. There's also a Norwegian thriller called The Tunnel that was released in 2018 or 2019. What happens when a vehicle catches fire in a motor tunnel under a mountain? An excellent thriller/drama filmed on location, showing you can have a nail biter without relying on computer effects!

@@StCerberusEngel Fully in agreement. I like the second movie. I grew up with “The Real Ghostbusters” and there is an episode explaining what happens when they get back to the firehouse after Gozer and fix the containment unit. I would like to see a reaction from someone about some of those old 80s cartoons that have adult stories or connect with the movies.

The Green Ghost who will later be known as Slimer was a tribute to the late great John Belushi. John was an amazing comedic actor and a close friend of Dan Akroyd (Ray). John was supposed to be in Ghostbusters. I think he was supposed to be the Peter Venkman character, tragically he died of a drug overdose about a year before filming had begun. Do yourself a favor and watch "Animal House" and "The Blues Brothers."

Interesting thought about "Alien". For we who saw in theater originally, the sequel to Alien had not come out yet and she doesn't do so many movies. but we recognized her all the same. 35+ years later and you only know her from her iconic role and maybe from Avatar. just interesting.

There was a Ghostbusters cartoon in the 80s, and a second movie in this series. There's a new movie that was supposed to be out already, but got delayed due to the pandemic called Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It'll be a continuation of this series rather than the 2016 movie and comes out in November of this year (barring any other delays).

A couple of great comedies that are older are Raising Arizona, by the Coen Brothers, Broadcast News, 9 to 5 , Baby Boom, Private Benjamin and OverBoard, both with Goldie Hawn. A couple of really old, really great black and white classic comedies are, The Philadelphia Story , Adams Rib, My Girl Friday . Except for Raising Arizona , all of these movies have a strong female perspective and even that one has a strong female role .

I will always recommend the weird eighties cult classic, Biggles: Adventures in Time. It was the movie they thought would be the next Star Wars or Back to the Future franchise, and it wasn't. It was weird and goofy, and had the best synth rock soundtrack, but it never hit the mark they were looking for though. It is always a fun rewatch.

That song is catchy. In fact Ray Parker Jr who sang this song was sued for appropriating the music from Huey Lewis and the News song I Want A New Drug and had to fork over a rather large sum of money as a result

Interesting fact: this movie was being shot while still in negotiations to use the name Ghostbusters. Some shots had to be done twice (where the crowd was chanting their name for example) the second time with the 2nd choice name just in case.

The great thing about this movie was that it didn't take itself seriously -- at all. Most of the actors were well-known comedians from Saturday Night Live or Second City, and Sigourney Weaver was awesome in it, too. So, it was a nice, fun, summertime comedy that actually turned into a major blockbuster. Dan Aykroyd at his best. Speaking of which, please consider reacting to The Blues Brothers, a 1980 movie featuring Aykroyd and John Belushi. Would love to see what you think of it.

In the 1970s there was a Saturday morning program called Ghost Busters starring Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch and Tracey the Gorilla. They went chasing monsters and ghosts in an old castle and used a device to transport them back in time. After Ghostbusters the movie came out there was a trademark lawsuit over the title. It got settled. Another lawsuit involved Huey Lewis suing Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism, as the Ghostbusters theme music sounded too much like I Want a New Drug by Huey Lewis and the News. There was a sequel that came out in the late 1980s and a cartoon series called The Real Ghostbusters went into production that was pretty decent. I think the cartoon series ran for two years. The character of Slimer, the green ghost eating everything in sight in the hotel, was a tribute to the late John Belushi. Belushi was friends with Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, and Dan Akroyd. They wanted him to be in the movie but Belushi died before production began. Slimer also becomes a mascot for the Ghostbusters in the cartoon series. The Ghostbusters remake in the mid-2010s was a box-office flop. Ghostbuster: Afterlife is either in development or in production or is in post-production. According to Wikipedia, the release date is November 2021.
