I dig your reaction guys but my goodness you talk WAY too much over dialogue. You miss so many important things because you’re completely ignoring the movie and having full on discussions while characters are talking, so you’re not reacting to the whole movie really. Although I think you guys have since remedied this by pausing to talk in your more recent videos? I am not sure and haven’t payed attention to all the videos’ dates but I hope that’s this case because it’s a bit irksome for sure. Otherwise, you guys have some really great reactions and insightful commentary, so well done for that and thanks for the content as well!

The spiders or Acromantula are not good! They are only friendly to Hagrid because Aragog (the giant spider) commanded them to leave him alone. They're natural killers with a taste for human flesh. Also, the reason why spiders fear the Basilisk the most is because spiders have a lot of eyes and thus are more vulnerable to the killing gaze of the Basilisk.

Tom Riddle's manipulation on Ginny has always interested me. When Ginny started writing to him, she felt like Harry wasn't paying attention to her and that she was always embarrassed when she did literally anything in front of him. Tom made her write messages with blood and Ginny didn't even remember what happened whenever she woke up the next day. One time her whole body was covered in feathers cause Tom made her kill some roosters. It was really disturbing.
@bobbyclarkston8836
@bobbyclarkston8836 Жыл бұрын
Tom’s manipulation of Ginny began simply as a sympathetic ear. She was far from home for the first time, she felt insecure about her second-hand school things and her brothers are basically ignoring her. As she writes more and more in the diary, Tom is gaining access to her very being, until finally he is able to possess her. It is during this possession that she does things she can’t remember later, such as: killing the school roosters and writing the messages in blood on the walls. I have no doubt she also confessed her feelings for Harry to Tom and how he would never notice her because who would ever notice little Ginny Weasley. That’s what gave Tom the idea of luring Harry down to the Chamber. Tom is the sixteen year old “memory” of Voldemort. He has no knowledge of his future downfall or of Harry until Ginny confides in him. Of course, who wouldn’t want to meet their future “murderer”. ;-)

Even though these first 2 movies are more straightforward and for kids, everything that happens is super important for what happens later in the series. I know you said you won’t read the books, but you might change your mind. They are so much more intricate and detailed and complicated. For me, also execution of first two movies is the closest to books - with music and scenes actually giving me the proper Harry Potter vibe. It's not quite clear I believe why Muggleborns exist.. they seem to occur quite regularly though (Harry's mother, Hermione and others) there are also children of Wizards that seem to have no magic (the movie doesnt make it very clear but Filch the caretaker is what is called a Squib... His parents were wizards but he can't do magic.. which may partly explain why he hates the students so much)

It is clear: To be a Muggleborn you have to have a 2 Pure-blood Parents back in the Family Tree that get a squib (kid born to Magical Parents but the kid do not have any magical blood). The reason Harry is not telling anybody about the voices that he's hearing is because he does not easily open up to and trust adults. Yes, even McGonagall or Dumbledore. Because of the life he has lived with the Dursley family, it's not his instinct to trust and authority figures, even ones who want to be helpful. Also, he has a little bit of a paranoia about being seen as crazy.

It helps that these movies are over 20 years old and so many stories since then have mirrored similar plot points and themes. Watching it for the first time when it came out is a different experience watching it now when so much media have been directly and indirectly based off of the dynamics in these stories. Scene'rly K.S.O got all the plot points too. She has long segments of just deliberating about things but the way she figures things out, going through the thought process on camera is so funny.

I had so much fun listening to your discussion at the end of the film, your theories are super interesting! But yes, as someone else mentioned, Voldemort didn't intentionally give some of his powers to Harry, you'll get the explaination of how this happened in the later movies. Muggles having a witch/wizard baby is quite common, I suppose its like an underlying gene, like if two brown haired people were to give birth to a baby with blonde or ginger hair, somewhere in their ancestry there will have been a witch/wizard. And the insight you got in this movie about the prejudices against muggle-borns will become a very important theme in the rest of the series. Super excited for the next one, its my favourite, along with the 6th and 8th movie :) I think you guys will really enjoy the next ones! You asked about the timeframe of the stories. Each story takes place over a single school year, from summer to summer. The whole story covers the 7 years of British secondary school, which people attend from age 11 to 18. To keep track of the characters ages, Harry's birthday is in the summer, so he's 11 for the whole first year, 12 for the whole second year etc. whereas other characters have their birthdays earlier.

19:48 About spells: it's been a long time since I read the books so I may be wrong but I think they went a little crazy with them in this movie... I believe they made a lot of these ones up for the film as well as including the ones that are from the book (ones I'd consider canon), but they made them all do basically the same thing - throw someone back and make them spin in the air, like in the wizard dual scene. Most spells are meant to do really specific things (for example there's a spell to make the target's legs dance uncontrollably that was used in the wizard duel between Draco and Harry!) but I didn't get the impression this movie was entirely consistent on that front. All the other ones do it right though so you can start to pick up on some spells! For example, a key one: expelliarmus is a disarming charm.

Tom Riddle explanation: The diary preserved a part of his soul from 50 years ago so yes that was Voldemort when he was younger at an age where he was still attending Hogwarts. If Tom Riddle/Voldemort's plan would have succeeded, he would have been brought back. Something you might have not noticed also is that Malfoy's dad, Lucius Malfoy, put Tom Riddle's diary into Ginny's cauldron that day in Diagon Alley which is how she got it in the first place. As far as Muggleborn kids go, it's not very clear but I would say that the most accurate answer is that there is a very distant relative of magical blood and is passed down. Anyways, as a Harry Potter fan, it's so great to be able to see other people experience the films for the first time so I'm looking forward to seeing you guys react to more. Now though, I actually would rank it quite high. I like how all the pieces fit together, Hogwarts history, the misdirects and plot twists are great, and how everything in the story ties back in to being relevant: like Ron's wand, Fawkes, Harry's Parseltongue, the sorting hat, the diary, Moaning Myrtle, etc.

Nice reaction! The guy on the right keeps reminding me of Cillian Murphy for some reason lol, I think it's the eyes. 3rd movie is def a fan fav, directed by the great Alfonso Cuaron. As the movies get longer and more intricate, perhaps you guys can consider splitting a reaction into 2 or 3 part vids. You guys have great theory discussions! Very perceptive. Each movie will have it's own small separate mystery to unravel, yet they will all connect and tie together to tell the broader storyline. You guys can also consider doing a video where you guys take the sorting hat quiz on the wizarding world site and see which house you get sorted into! Some extra info for you guys down below, no spoilers so no worries. Harry's scar wasn't intentionally put there by Voldemort. The scar was just residue from the killing curse that backfired onto Voldemort when Voldemort tried to kill baby Harry. His intention was def trying to kill Harry, not to give Harry a scar or anything. That's why Harry is known as the "boy who lived". I think this was all explained in the first movie (by Hagrid?) In regards to your speculation about Lucius Luscious-Locks Malfoy, just a friendly reminder that Tom Riddle's diary was slipped into Ginny's cauldron by Lucius. And Lucius knew what the diary could do. So. Dobby, being the house elf serving the Malfoy fam, got wind of what Lucius was going to do, so Dobby went to Harry to try and warn him, because Dobby is just a big ole fan boy of Harry Potter lol. But because house elves are bound by magic to serve their masters, Dobby couldn't outright tell Harry what was going on or who was doing it, because that would be a betrayal to his masters. And he had to punish himself for even going to see Harry without permission. Hermoine's parents were Muggles, but someone in their ancestry probably had magical abilities. Harry's mom, Lily, got the magic genes, but her parents were muggles, so Lily is called a "muggleborn". Harry's dad, James, was a pureblood because both his parents were purebloods. So Harry is therefore a "half-blood" because he has a pureblood wizard dad and a muggleborn witch mom. I don't think Harry being a half-blood was ever explained in any of the movies. Tom Riddle aka Voldy mentioned in this movie that he didn't want to keep his "filthy muggle father's name". So Tom Riddle's father was a muggle, his mother was a pureblood. Therefore, Tom Riddle is a half-blood, same as Harry. Harry lives with his aunt Petunia (Lily's sister), Petunia didn't catch the magic genes. Lily and Hermoine would be looked down upon by people like the Malfoys and be called "mudbloods" for having non-magic parents. The Malfoys greatly pride themselves on being purebloods. Ron and his whole family are purebloods, but because they don't mind associating and being friends with muggleborns, they are deemed as "blood traitors" by people like the Malfoys. People who associate and befriend "mudbloods" are just as lowly as "mudbloods" in their opinion. The books give an incredible amount of detail and backstories, and will answer a lot of questions that you guys will probably have in the upcoming movies. The movies sometimes had to cut out great characters entirely. Hope you guys will consider reading the books after finishing the movies and perhaps post review videos about the books, that would be so cool. I grew up with HP and read the books an infinite amount, like to the point where my books were falling apart, pages coming out and the bindings peeling away. And they were hardcover books too lol. I was the only one in my family to ever read HP and always tried (unsuccessfully) to convince them to read it. They all refused because they had the misconception that the series was only for young children. But last year, I managed to convince my dad to dig out my old HP books and read them and he loved them! The 6th and 7th books even made him cry, I was shocked. He's kind of a stoic manly man type of guy and was raised in a very uptight family so they weren't big on showing emotions. So if the HP books can get him to cry, you KNOW they must be good lol.

@@whitenoisereacts Really? Haha that’s great, I’m not weird for thinking that then. One of my favorite movies has Cillian Murphy as the lead actor, it’s called “Sunshine”, have you guys seen it? Chris Evans is in it too. Directed by Danny Boyle, and it’s one his super underrated films in my opinion. It’s like a beautiful futuristic sci-fi space film, not meant to be super scientifically realistic, but the story is meant to explore the themes of life, death and meaning of human existence. Really beautiful moving film, and the main song that was composed for the film has been used in soooo many trailers, tv shows and other movies lol because it sounds so epic. The song is called adagio in d minor, composed by john murphy. If you guys haven’t seen “Sunshine”, I recommend it for a future first time movie reaction video!

@@whitenoisereacts Awesome! Yeah, after you guys are done with the Harry Potter films (and probably Fantastic Beasts prequels), it would be really cool to see you guys do movie reactions to a wide variety of genres. You've probably already seen a lot of them, but here are some of my recs: For franchises: the “Ocean’s 11” trilogy. The two “Kill Bill” films. Indiana Jones, Jurassic Parks, Pirates of the Caribbean. The Matrix and John Wicks hopefully you’ve already seen. “Gladiator” hopefully you’ve already seen too, it’s too excellent. M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Sixth Sense” and “Signs”, classics. “The Others” with Nicole Kidman is also an excellent classic in the horror genre. “Silence of the Lambs”. "Shutter Island" “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “The Truman Show” are Jim Carrey’s standout films in my opinion, they are super different than the slapstick comedy films that he is well known for. “Minority Report” and “The Fifth Element” are very unique action/sci-fi futuristic films. "12 Monkeys", pandemic related sci-fi film. “Saving Private Ryan”. “Schindler’s List”, "Hotel Rwanda" and “The Pianist” for war related stories based on true events. “Jojo Rabbit”, super funny and super sad. “What We Do in the Shadows” super funny and witty Taika Waititi film. Mockumentary style comedy about a group of vampires who are flatmates in modern day New Zealand. “Train to Busan”, really famous Korean zombie film that will make you sob. If you’re interested in Chinese martial arts/drama movies, check out “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” and “Hero”. “Ratatouille”, my fav Pixar film. If you like Japanese animation, you might like Studio Ghibli films, they’re very famous. “Castle in the Sky”. “Spirited Away”. “Howl’s Moving Castle”. “Kiki’s Delivery Service”. “Grave of the Fireflies”.

Trivia: Salazar Slytherin made his own wand with it’s magical core being a horn from the basilisk. He could command it to sleep in parseltongue and the wand would become unresponsive. Ilvermorney (America’s magical school) was co-founded by Isolt Sayer who was also a descendant of Slytherin. She couldn’t speak parseltongue but she could still understand snakes that talked to her, particularly a horned-serpent that lived in the lake near her home. She, her muggle-husband and their two adopted sons started a school in their own home and it eventually became a castle like Hogwarts.

6:45 Unfortunately Hermione couldn't fix it. A broken core usually can't be fixed. Fun fact - Ron's broken wand is actually a heirloom. That's why his spells weren't as good as they could have been in first movie. Wand chooses the person, so hand me down wand shouldn't work as well as it could. 9:10 This time? It's always something happening at Hogwarts. Which extended lore confirms (games, movies and theatre plays). 18:55 Giant butterflies would be way scarier. Absolutely agree with your point about “fixing” the wand. There has to be some things that a ‘reparo” can’t mend and a wand would be one of them. Also, I either forgot or never knew that Ron’s wand was an heirloom. Do you know from whom he received it? It seems to be a common practice with pureblood families. Ginny uses her grandmother’s wand and Neville, his father’s.

Great video guys! With Tom Riddle and the diary, Voldemort basically attached a bit of himself to the book to be preserved as a memory. It explains in later movies how this was done and why but that book fell into the hands of Lucius Malfoys hands and Voldermort made Lucius responsible for it. After Voldemort disappeared Lucius began to not want the book in his possession as he believed Voldemort to be dead, so he gave it to Ginny in the book shop and she ended up communicating with the memory of Tom Riddle that Voldemort attached to the diary and as it said in the movie this gave Riddle the power to come back and take form in the chamber! Idk if anyone mentioned it, and I know this video is old, but maybe you'll still see this because it's a cool kind of easter egg for those that know: the potion Harry had to drink to regrow his arm, Skele Gro, was actually created by one of his ancestors a long time ago. Harry's fortune also comes from his grandfather or great grandfather, who invented "Sleakeazy's Hair Potion" yet Harry's hair in the books is described as unruly and untamable. One of his early signs of magic is his aunt cut his hair super short except his bangs to cover his scar, and overnight it regrew.

I know I’m coming in months after your viewing of these movies. And I think I’ll jump over to Patreon and watch the full reactions, as it’s been a while since I’ve watched these movies. But I’m going to try to primarily point out some details about Snape as I go through your reactions, as I appreciated your Always/Doe Patronus t-shirt and I’m a huge Snape fan. It might be a detail from the movie I want to emphasize, or something from the books that the movie left out. I’m also going to come from the perspective that you have already completed watching all the movies, so I won’t be spoiling anything. Snape had a smaller role in Chamber of Secrets than any other of the HP stories. But he did have one critically important contribution here that helped Harry throughout the rest of the series. In the dueling club scene Snape showed the kids Expelliarmus, the disarming spell. This became Harry’s signature spell. He used it regularly throughout the series. Most importantly, he used it in The Goblet of Fire in his duel with Voldemort that created the Prior Incantato effect that helped him escape, and he used it in the final duel with Voldemort when the killing spell ricocheted back on Voldemort. The fact that Harry regularly used the disarming spell instead of the killing spell in critically important situations was an essential aspect of his character. And Snape was the person responsible for teaching Harry that spell. You already have 285 comments on this video. So I’m sure that lots of people have already gone into the Latin use in the wizard in spells that you asked about. Rowling’s education was in the Classics. (Her address to the graduating class of Harvard a number of years ago is a fantastic speech and goes into her college years) She is also a meticulous planner and will say that is one of the most essential elements of her writing. And she has a real love of creating new words. I say all this to point out that in addition to the Latin she incorporated lots of classical elements into the Harry Potter saga. It is rather amusing that the hardline Christian element in the United States accused her of promoting witchcraft and the occult. Because the truth is that the story is filled with Christian symbolism. Not because she was promoting any kind of religious message, but because classic western literature is full of Christian symbolism. And she was drawing from that tradition. A couple of minor examples are that in the first book Harry was unconscious for three days after his confrontation with Voldemort. And of course he literally sacrificed himself for the people he loved in the final book, which went a long way toward saving him. But to give you a little more esoteric example of her use of Christian symbolism I will turn to Quidditch. You seemed to enjoy the game in this movie. On the Quidditch team Harry is the Seeker, which has an obvious spiritual connotation. The names of the rest of the players on his team all have a religious interpretation. There is an angel, a bell, a spinnet (a type of organ), olive wood (common in church carvings), a kirke (a type of church) and the most far reaching example, a weasel (traditional used in religious garments). Plus the snitch itself is a replica of an alchemical symbol for the Philosopher’s stone. The practice of Alchemy (often referred to in the series) had significant spiritual applications. The Philosopher’s stone was the ultimate purified outcome of the practice of Alchemy. So the analogy of the Seeker chasing the Snitch is significant.
