2 things, since I haven't seen them in the comments yet: 1) A full-power Patronus takes the form of an animal, different for each person. That's why you saw a stag. 2) The "Marauders" who wrote the map are the schoolboy Lupin and his friends, who became Animagi so that they could keep him company when he was in werewolf form: Moony - Lupin himself; Wormtail - Peter Pettigrew the rat; Padfoot - Sirius Black the dog; Prongs - James Potter the stag. Harry's Patronus is a stag because of the connection to his father.

Why did some idiots feel the need to reveal that Ron and Hermione become a couple in future movies? PEOPLE, PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL SPOILERS INVOLVING FUTURE PLOT LINES! That is very inconsiderate of you, but apparently some of you don’t give a damn.

This series gets so deep in the writing & the symbolism & literary analogies. J.K. Rowling created the dementors to represent her depression during a dark period of her life & having some chocolate helped cheer her up during those times which is why it’s written into Harry Potter. The dementors represent depression, anything soul sucking & instill fear & despair & hopelessness & the only way to defeat it is through finding the light within the dark & remembering good times as a reminder that good can still exist if you refuse to let the darkness take you & it’s such a great message. Also the whole boggart thing is quite profound & represents we overcome our fears through laughter & as a child the boggart is more childish & easier to defeat with laughter & as you get older or for kids who experience true trauma & pain in their lives like Harry their fears are more complex & it becomes even harder to overcome. This book/movie is a great representation of what mind over matter truly means.

Well and beautifully stated! Also, there are chemical compounds in chocolate very similar to brain chemicals humans produce when in love. Chocolate lifts and lightens the spirit and makes us feel good. So, Remus Lupin uses chocolate as a restorative to counter the emotional and psychic loss experienced in encounters with Dementors, and there is actual science behind it.

The ghost riding horses are the Headless Hunt. If you look closely the one rider is holding a head. All the ghost of the Headless Hunt died by decapitation & they play games with their heads. In the first movie when Nearly Headless Nick was introduced he mentions his application to join the Headless Hunt was denied. That’s because his head is still attached by a narrow strip of muscle so he can’t fully participate in the games of the Headless Hunt.

My favorite things about Prisoner Of Azkaban: 1. The song "Double Trouble". 2. Hermione punching Malfoy right in his smug face. 3. The introduction of Gary Oldman as Sirius Black and David Thewlis as Remus Lupin. 4. Harry flying on Buckbeak's back over Hogwarts (SPECTACULAR scenery).

One of the things that was left out of the movie but was in The Prisoner of Azkaban novel is that James Potter (Harry's father), Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew were the original inventors of The Marauders Map. That is the reason why Professor Lupin knew how to use it. When the original Marauders were students in Hogwarts they were all best friends. When James, Sirius and Peter found out that Remus is a werewolf they decided to become Animagus (wizards that can willfully magically turn into an animal just like Professor McGonagall can turn into a cat) because werewolves don't attack other animals and Remus' friends didn't want him to be alone during the full moon period. This is why the map reveals the weird names when you use the "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" spell. They were the nicknames of the Marauders. Mooney is Remus Lupin because he is a werewolf. Padfoot is Sirius Black because his animagus form is a dog. Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew because his animagus form is a rat. And James Potter is Prongs because his animagus form is a stag. Dumbledore knew about Remus' condition and how Remus became a werewolf when he was only a very small child. So he had the Womping Willow tree planted and had a tunnel put in so that Remus can hide in the Shrieking Shack during the full moon cycle. 🌜🌕🌛🐺🐶🦌🐀🪄🌳🏚

Yes! Loving these reactions! You mentioned wanting to see behind the scenes, you should 100% react to the 20th reunion after you finish the series. It’s so good! They reunite the cast with all of the directors etc. and you get so much insight. Can’t wait to see the rest of the series! You’ll see that with this movie and the next, there is a shift towards a darker tone as the kids age. Hold on tight 😅

Dumbledore is the architect and director of the plan to eliminate Voldemort and the danger he poses to the whole world, not just the Wizarding World. A real wizard is not interested in fame or power per se; a real wizard is only interested in results, which often means he holds secrets he cannot tell ANYONE without risking the failure of whatever operation/spell he is managing. He can't always be truthful and he certainly can't always be forthcoming; that's the nature of working in magic, where directing the belief of others can be crucial. Dumbledore has taken on responsibility for the fate of the planet.

The reason most muggles don't see magic happening around them is sometimes attributed to protective spells having been places on objects or places so that regular none magical folks can't see or notice them. For example, Hogwarts is a massive castle located in the highlands of Scotland. But when muggles come across it they only see old ancient empty castle ruins. If muggles find themselves getting too close to it then suddenly the muggles will start to think they have someplace important they have to go to that they previously forgotten about. In rare other cases when a muggle happens to witness magic by mistake, the local wizarding government called The Ministry of Magic will come and magically erase that particular memory from the muggle's mind. Certain cases are allowed only to a certain extent, like in the case of a wizard or witch having been born from a muggle family or is being raised by a muggle family like Harry and the Dursleys for example. But even then the wizarding child is not allowed to perform magic even in front of their muggle family even though their muggle family members know about their relative being born a witch or wizard and that they attend Hogwarts. The Wizarding communities consider it vital that their existence remain a secret for their protection incase for example muggles decide to bring back the witch trials and start burning wizards at the stake again among many other reasons as well. 🏰🪄

Interesting little trivia, Sirius Black serious is the consolation in the night sky of the dog. So black dog Remus Lupin, Lupine being derived from a Latin word that means werewolf. Remus is the name of one of the two twins that founded Rome that was raised by a She Wolf. It's not explained in the movie, but the Marauder's Map was created by James Potter Remus Lupin Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. James was prongs, serious was padfoot, Remus was Moody, and Peter wormtail

In the Prisoner of Azkaban book, Professor McGonagall got permission from the Ministry of Magic to allow Hermione to borrow a Time Turner so that she may take as many classes as she like. But taking so many classes with the Time Turner began to take a large physical toll on Hermione. She was cramming almost 48 hours of living into a 24 hour day. She even started having a hard time staying awake during the day. By the very end of the book Hermione returned the Time Turner to Professor McGonagall not only because it was physically getting far too difficult to live that many extra hours in a single day but Hermione began to consider the Time Turner way too powerful of a temptation to use for other reasons. Like Hermione said to Harry, "Terrible things happens to wizards who meddle with time". ⏳️🪄

The woman entering at the beginning is Uncle Vernon's dominating older sister, a dog breeder (the dog is hers). She views a lot of life through the lens of dogs and dog genetics. Harry is now 13 years old and his puberty hormones are in full eruption. This is what is behind his aggressive pushback throughout the film, having no patience for authority, injustice, and idiocy. A lot of reactors interpret this as Harry getting a spine, but it's really just a brief year of grating irritation before returning to his usual character. You'll see Hermione acting the same way, her hormones firing up, in matching irritation with the same things Harry lashes back at, but Hermione also has to struggle with her attraction to Ron (she's driven to keep touching Ron). Ron's a late bloomer; puberty doesn't come for him until the next year, when he's 14, when it will hit like a hurricane. And Ron will remain totally clueless and unaware of the currents churning in his subconscious. Yes; Aunt Marge's brandy glass shattering IS due to Harry's strong feelings and inability to suppress them, due to raging hormones (like any teenager). What follows is Marge inflating like a balloon, due to Harry considering her to be full of 'hot air', and so she is. It wasn't Marge saying Harry's father was an unemployed drunk that did it for Harry, it was Marge saying, "If there's something wrong with the BITCH, there's something wrong with the PUP", meaning Harry and his mother. Comparing Harry's dead mother to a bitch dog was the final straw for Harry. _____________________________________________________ Harry's aunt and uncle don't live in London; they live in Surrey, at least an hour outside London. The bus is a TRIPLE-DECKER, which doesn't exist except in fantasy. _____________________________________________________ The Leaky Cauldron is an inn for wizards/witches (the sign can only be seen by members of the Wizarding World). On the first floor is a neighborhood pub serving beverages and food, and there are rooms to rent on the floors above. Harry is familiar with it because Hagrid took him through it to get to Diagon Alley when he was picking up his money and his school supplies. You'll see it in future films whenever someone is traveling in or out of the country. Minister Fudge doesn't want Harry to 'wander' at the inn because it's an unsecured establishment and there's an escaped murderer at large. Fudge worries that Sirius Black might kill Harry but doesn't want to worry the boy. It's a two-year gap, not four. In the first film, Harry was 11yrs-old and a First Year. The second film, a one-year gap, Harry is 12 and a Second Year. This film, it's been a two-year gap and Harry's 13 and a Third Year. Oh, and the Monster Book of Monsters: It's a living creature and it probably feels a bit violated when you just unlock and open it. Hagrid tells his students that the book'ss spline needs to be stroked (like a cat or dog) before opening. I can understand that. _____________________________________________________ Remus Lupin is an unregistered werewolf; he was turned by Fenrir Greyback before he was old enough to enter Hogwarts. (Greyback specializes in turning children; you'll see him in later films.) Perhaps Remus was always destined to be a werewolf. Lupin is Latin for 'wolf' and 'Remus' was the name of the twin of the founder of Rome: Romulus; Romulus and Remus are described in legend as having been found in the wilderness by a she-wolf, who kept them alive by suckling them. The Shrieking Shack shrieks because Lupin goes there during full moons when he transforms, and the painful change makes him shriek. The Shack was an unused Hogwarts outbuilding; Dumbledore created a tunnel at an isolated area of Hogwarts that leads to the Shack's basement, then planted the Whomping Willow at the Hogwarts end of the tunnel to keep curious students from exploring it. The shrieking and the stories that grew up about it was enough to keep students from direct approach to the Shrieking Shack. Remus's closest friends (James, Sirius, and Peter) asked Professor McGonagall to help them become animagi (plural form of 'animagus') so they could keep Remus company during his transformation and steer him out of trouble or notice of others (werewolves can only infect humans and during a full moon; animals can't catch lycanthropy so changing into animals will keep them safe). Not all can become animagi and you can't choose the animal form you become; it's linked to your character. Sirius became a dog (likely because of his loyalty and protective nature; he's aptly named 'Sirius' after the Dog Star in the constellation Canis Major, the Great Dog). James became a stag (likely because it matches his Patronus and because he leads the clique). Peter became a rat (and it turns out Peter was indeed a rat). Interestingly, the boys were never registered with the Ministry of Magic as animagi; maybe it would have endangered Remus's secrecy about being a werewolf if the boys had to explain why they wanted to become animagi. In due course, the four students created the Marauders Map so when in animal form they could avoid running into others. _____________________________________________________ 'Dementor' is not a job position; they are feral physical creatures, a type of wild animal. They have limited intelligence but can understand simple arrangements like feeding on the imprisoned enough to keep them in place but not so much as to kill their consciousness. They are provided a place to keep victims to feed upon and the Dementors don't need to hunt or be hunted. Dementors don't care about animals, just muggles, wizards, and witches; the more intelligent lifeforms are the richest sources of the energies Dementors feed upon. As it turns out, Sirius being able to turn into a dog allowed him to escape Azkaban. Someone left a copy of the Daily Prophet where Sirius could see it and that was the issue with a story on the Weasley Family visiting Egypt, with a photo of the family, including Ron's rat that was handed down to him by Percy. Sirius recognized the rat as the animal form of Peter Pettigrew, the person he was charged as having murdered. Twelve years in prison under horrific mental torture for crimes Sirius never committed. It gave Sirius the strength to change into a dog and escape, so he could wreak vengeance on Peter for framing him. Sirius's escape was NOT due to him being crazy, powerful, or smart, just LUCKY. The first place Sirius went was to find and check on Harry's safety. That was Sirius, in dog (not wolf) form, by the bench across from where Harry soon gets picked up by the triple-decker Knight Bus. Sirius had already been in communication with Hermione's cat (dogs and cats can communicate; besides, her cat is part kneazle, a magical breed of cat that's extraordinarily intelligent) and informed the cat that Ron's rat Scabbers is the wizard who informed Voldemort and caused Harry's parents' deaths. Ron had a sound reason to suspect Hermione's cat was targeting his rat. _________________________________________________ Hermione is NOT fond of flying or of heights. She starts to say so while hanging onto Harry on Buckbeak's back. But if you go back to the first film, it's one of the things Hermione doesn't seem to have a natural talent for, as she has difficulty getting her broomstick to rise to her hand. I'm guessing Hermione's fear and lack of confidence gives her pause. I have to wonder if it's because she's muggleborn and has grown up in the muggle world. Does her magic power give her the resilience and lifespan of a natural witch, or is she as fragile as any other muggle? What I read from questions and comments, longevity is affected by channeling magic power but is unaffected by the intensity of that power. That means muggleborns live longer lives and squibs have muggle-length lives. Does channeling magic confer resiliency? I'm guessing so.

So, a little background on Wizard biology: Wizards/witches are practically a separate species from muggles, though both are basically humans and can interbreed. ('Wizard' is the term specifically for males with magic power, 'witch' for females with magic power; just as men and women are grouped under the general term 'men' or 'mankind', 'wizard' is also used as a general term for both males and females who have magic power.) Wizardkind are a more durable and robust species than muggles; they are prone to fewer (and different) pathogens and handle physical trauma better than muggles. Wizardkind resist injury and heal faster and without scarring. When Neville fell off his broom in the first film and broke his wrist, that was treated like a bruise, because Neville healed pretty rapidly. When you think about it, wizardkind would NEED to be more resilient because of the forces of magic on things. Partly it's to weather those forces and partly those forces run through and revitalize wizardkind, as a reparative force. It's a side effect of magic power. This same power also doubles the average lifespan of wizardkind; the average lifespan of a muggle is about 75 years, but the average lifespan of a wizard/witch is about 150 years. Dumbledore is between 110 and 115 at this time. That said, there is also the issue of the impact of spellcasting and curses. Injuries caused by magic takes a toll on wizardkind; lost parts don't grow back, injuries may not heal or only partially heal, and scars will be left behind. Harry was directly dealt a serious curse and, though he managed to live through it, it left a scar. Lupin was turned by a werewolf and bears the scar of his attack. You will see others with even more evidence of damage in the coming films. In general, wizards and witches are not afraid of injury because they heal so quickly and fully. In fact, at all ages they are attracted to participating in dangerous activities; it's thrilling to them. It's a cultural as well as a practical aspect of being a member of the Wizarding World. They accept death, they know time is limited for everyone, but they want to have a great time while they can and leave a legacy. _________________________________________________ Wizard genetics: This is a matter of ancestry (traced to at least one grandparent with magic power) and of magic power (evidence). MUGGLE: They have no known magical ancestry and exhibit no magic power. MUGGLEBORN: They have no known magical ancestry, but they exhibit magic power. Magic ability may be a 'sport' (a chance genetic development) or may be the result of DNA from one or more past unknown ancestors in the family tree. The parents of a muggleborn are muggles. Lily Potter and Hermione Granger are muggleborns. SQUIB: They have magical ancestry, but exhibit no magic power. In the Wizarding Word, squibs are considered disabled, so the community provides them with suitable employment requiring no magic power. Argus Filch and Mrs Figg are squibs; Filch has employment as the Hogwarts caretaker and hall monitor; Mrs Figg supports herself by breeding and selling kneazles. HALFBLOOD: They have at least one parent with magic power and exhibit magic power. The non-magic parent may be muggle, giant, goblin, or other humanoid creature. The majority of magic-capable individuals are halfbloods, including Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Tom Riddle, Trelawney, and others. Hagrid is half-giant (as is probably Madame Olympe Maxime), Flitwick is half-goblin, Fleur is 1/4 veela. PUREBLOOD: They are descended from parents and grandparents who have magic power. About 25% of the Wizarding World are purebloods; the Wizarding World itself is a small population, so 25% of that is an even smaller population, setting purebloods up for inbreeding. For this reason, there is a higher percentage of insanity in pureblood families. Salazar Slytherin promoted blood purity and as a result most Slytherins take great pride in being pureblood. The Malfoys, the Blacks, the Longbottoms, the Weasleys, and the Lovegoods are all examples of pureblood families and display differences in blood purity attitudes. FALSE PUREBLOODS: They are halfbloods who pass themselves off as purebloods, for profit or prestige. Delores Umbridge claims to be a pureblood, but her mother was a muggle. Voldemort acts like a pureblood, but he complains about his muggle father all too often.
