Did you know that 14 years ago, on September 26th The Weeknd discovered Lana Del Rey through tumblr, and was the first one to ask BBC Radio 1 to put 'Video Games' on their playlist. In fact in an interview Abel admits that when he met Lana, he felt that he had found the girl who was writing in her songs, that is, I found her muse for her songs. The pair’s music - according to The Weeknd - is spiritually linked. Perhaps this revelation puts into context not only the collaborations between these two but their respective catalogs as well. As great collaborations he has Prisoner, Party Monster where Lana makes Background vocals, Stargirl Interlude, Lust for Life and Money Power and Glory an unreleased remix by The weeknd for the album kissland but the original is from Lana's album Ultraviolence.Anyway, long life to this wonderful collaboration. The fact that White Mustang video was initially made for the version of The Next Best American Record that was discarded for this album... "Why am I staying? You're wine, I'm stained The day I saw you're why it must end Since you're a wild mistake..." Interesting wordplay, that's what most of us hear from that song. Also the detail of putting at end of the video "the dance part" she talks about in Get Free, is simply incredible.

To me it feels like lust for life is the end of an era. including with her past 3 albums, the last song on lust for life get free reminds me of going into a new era in life, which is nfr and forward.

the White Mustang music video was originally a video for the demo version out Best American Record, but she wasn’t satisfied with the song so she reworked it

I interpret L4L music as The weeknd is her dead boyfriend. Lana is so in love with him, she still sees him (his ghost) She is also referencing the incident where this one American actress had committed s word by jumping from Hollywood sign. So yes towards the end you can even see in Lana’s expression when she’s standing on the last letter, she is lost in her own thoughts or something. And at last she jumps and we see them together lying on flowers. Maybe they finally reunited and there is a peace sign. They are at peace finally.

I love how the beginning of the Lust For Life mv looks like a 60s tv performance. It's especially interesting given the song samples the song "Be My Baby" from the 60s ! I'm also intrigued by the notebook and the pen next to her on one of the shots on top of the Hollywood sign 🤔could it be a nod to the trailer where she said she was making music from inside the H, outside of society (alone like in 13 Beaches where she needs to find a place in nature by herself to feel creative ?) Also I like that she associates the Hollywood sign with a lust for life bcs it used to be associated with death/tragedy when an actress jumped off the H to end her life in the 1930s. The juxtaposition once again between life and death, between the Hollywood dream and the Hollywood tragedy !

The music video for White Mustang was actually for 'The Next Best American Record' (and it has sense with the lyrics, for example, the first scene match perfectly with the lyrics ''my baby used to dance underneath my architecture...''). The first version of the album Lust For Life was quite different of the released version, and The Next Best American Record was cut off of the record (to later find its place on NFR), as well as 'Yosemite', that song was also cut off of Lust for Life and then we can hear it on 'Chemtrails Over The Country Club'.

Ok. Whoever said In My Feelings and White Mustang are about the same person is wrong. In My Feelings is about G-Eazy (as she signaled a G with her hands while singing it live) and White Mustang is about Barrie-James O'Neill. I know some people will think it is about G-Eazy but it is not. I will present some evidence of it. 1. The video is recycled from the demo of The Next Best American Record - there's even video of her singing "You did it all for fame" while recording and Rick (the director) asking her if she was sure about changing the song. The demo of The Next Best American Record (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipybl6pomMuen9U) talks about a relationship in which the man used to dance underneath her architecture (meaning they used to have sex) but he became so obsessed with his record that he couldn't perform anymore and did it all for fame. It's no mystery that Barrie resented the fact that Lana got famous and not him. He would drink and go missing when she would play a concert and she would have to cancel or get late to go and save him in the beginning of her career. Also, she once said publicly that she thought he might be gay (giving the innuendo that he couldn't perform). 2. She says "Everybody said you're a killer but I couldn't stop the way I was feeling the day your record dropped" - Barrie's 2016 album Cold Coffee included a song called Murder Murder, including lyrics like "I kill you baby // I kill you lady, kill // (Cause) I love my love". They broke up in 2014 and he recorded his album in 2015, so the lyrics are probably about her. Lana had talked about his violent and murderous thoughts before, in the Honeymoon song 24 "there's only 24 hours in a day and half of those you lay awake with thoughts of murder and carnage". 3. Lana has said that the subject of the song "California" (from NFR!) was still in London in 2019 and said all songs in the album were connected. Since Barrie is the one of her exes (publicly known) that lived there in that time, that could mean those songs are about the same person. 4. This is not an evidence, but an important fact. In her book, Lana has a poem called "Ringtone" in which she states she had an iPhone 6 Plus that only one person knew the number. When she went to London in 2019, she sang a cover of Ariana Grande's Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored while reading the lyrics from an iPhone 6 Plus. (I don't think I have to explain further). "I'm stronger than all my men, except for you". Relationships like G-Eazy and Francesco did not earn many songs, most of them until Norman are about Barrie.

I feel like I’ll get so much more out of NFR now and I want to share that so I’m going to do a relisten. I’ve been avoiding it for this reason so I’m confident it’ll still be fresh for me. But in such a different way now with all the context I didn’t have before. ❤️
