26:20 this is sad when you realize that Constance was probably suffering from PTSD. She’s had stuff thrown at her for God knows how long while being at that circus, and now in a place meant to keep her safe, she’s being attacked in the same way. It makes sense that she’s upset, especially since rocks and eggs HURT if the impact is hard enough. Their love story is tragic, he TRIED to save her, but he failed. And her spirit is still so vengeful that he had to turn into a crabby old man so that no other children would meet her wrath. Decades of loneliness and being hated by people he was only trying to protect, Nebbercracker is a real MVP
@bigbangtheory00004 ай бұрын
Constance and Nebercracker are also a really unique couple across almost all films in the fact that, not only is it incredibly rare for a man to be in love with an obese or not conventionally attractive woman in most films, her size and appearance are never really played for laughs by the movie. Like, there's no joke where the punchline is "This woman is fat" or "This man is weird for being in love with a fat lady". They're just two people who genuinely love each other in their entirety, warts and all.
@notafan24804 ай бұрын
How have I never thought of this? That makes me so sad.😭
@kitty39994 ай бұрын
I think also parents probably took their kids to see 'the freaks,' so she probably see a lot of kids as just more people that grow upto be bad people. Probably thinking those kids know her from that circus and to bother her in a place that she finally could call home, and can't see them anything else as just negativity that want to hurt her. And as much as I hoped Nebbercracker had a bit of rest in the house, he was probably always on edge, in fear someone would come so near.

This movie has always given me a sad feeling since I was a child. Constance had a tough life, got mistreated by her own kind, and was called a freak just because of her appearance. The only thing she had close to a house was an animal jail, and when she finally got a real house and also a place to really call home, she hanged on to it for dear life because it was the first time she had something to call her own, and she finally felt safe and loved, just to die buried in her own safe place. At least, her spirit and her husband's soul got free from the ''possessive'' grief. I have seen people in my own family in similar situations to Constance, they got mistreated by their own parents, had nothing but trauma, and when they finally owned something, they got overly attached to it, to the point that they didn't know better, and one of them actually died trying to keep the last thing that made him feel safe. Rest in peace.

I love how in the opening scene when Nebbercracker scared the little girl, he said "Do you want to be eaten alive?" What's clever about that line is that he doesn't mean he's going to eat her, the house is going to eat her, because the house is being possessed by Constance, the wife.
