The more I think about it, Nightmare Moon was a legit threat. Without the sun, how would crops grow? Sure, the heat of the sun would still kind of be there, but no sunlight would mess up all the farms and wild plants. Nightmare Moon would have been the doom of every creature except for maybe the dragons.

If you're wondering if you should give this show a chance, do. I used to loathe ponies, but in the years I've gone as far as to attend conventions and meet voice actors in the community. The core of the fandom is acceptance, so we're pretty open minded! This first season is a slog, one piece style, but it's only because the greatest writers aren't here until season 2. The show tackles topics that would probably get it banned in the modern day for being 'too real'. A fair warning, the last few seasons tackle pretty harsh topics. Even a mention of technical self-oofing.

The episodes of season 1 are more self-centured when comparing with the episodes of the following seasons, despite there's still some continuity, as they focus more on the objective of the show that is to teach valuable lessons of friendship. But I do recommend you to keep watching, because it is a really good show. There's a reason why this is the best generation of the entire MLP franchise.

Fun fact. In the crowd scene in the library, there is a cross-eyed pony in the background. The story goes that someone added her as a joke and she wasn't supposed to actually be visible, but after the fans noticed, she became an instant fandom mascot and eventually showed up as a canon character. (Ditzy Doo in the slightly censored version, and Derpy Hooves (as the fans had called her) in the original)

Huh. It's taken me since 2010 to realize that Pinkie Pie wasn't yet a party planner here. The LITERAL Party Animal was not involved in the 1000th Summer Sun, hence having the time and the drive to plan Twilight's party. Even Pinkie was getting her character development this early.

Thanks for reacting to this guys! Love it. The show tackles some very serious issues in a pretty head-on manner (racism for example). Not every episode will get tons of likes because everyone has their favorites, but there is something profound in this show... once you get past season 1 and even season 1 has some excellent episodes.

Good luck on this series guys. It's a long ride, but quite enjoyable. Season 1 can seem fairly stock standard with morals and lessons many people know, but I'd argue that lays the ground work needed for the rest of the series to get really creative. My turning point was the episode "Stare Master" (i won't spoil, but you'll see why when/if you get there. This is a world where dangers are not limited to far off lands and encountered on epic quests. This is a world where dangers can exist right down the road and can take even skillful characters by surprise.

They eat a completely vegetarian diet after all, and they have no technology, so they would often rely on sunlight to grow food.
