I actually did research on this movie and the director stated that we all have trauma and tend to put a smile to mask our pain. He wanted to leave this movie up for interpretation to the audience because everyone deals with their own trauma and personal issues and wanted to show that through this film. Also the movie was made to be messy because when dealing with things that haunted you, it’s kind of hard to keep it organized.

as someone who has struggled with mental illnesses and has attempted, this movie hit TOO close to home and it was absolutely horrifying and heartbreaking and i loved it. To me it was about trauma and how you can’t escape your mind and trauma and it’s always with you. The line of “Your mind is so inviting” really stood out to me. This gave me black swan energy in a way.

I had actual chest pain from not breathing while watching this. The cat dying was the final straw I almost walked out. Definitely one of the scariest movies I’ve seen. If I’m honest, I loved how scary it was for the most part but I feel like the way they portrayed suicide really needed to be a trigger warning. As someone who was hospitalised for attempts this year (from trauma - which is exactly what the movie circles around), the outlook and underlying message was very grim. I know it’s just a movie and it made sense for what they were going for which is fine like I said it’s one of the best horrors- there just needed to be proper warnings (in the UK, the only warning was violence and threat) as had I not been as strong as I am right now that could’ve gone downhill. Even my non suicidal friends said it was quite unsettling how dark the suicide stuff was on top of the horror. Feel for anyone who isn’t in a good place who watched this not knowing suicide was the plot centre. Keep slaying these commentaries though, Miss Thing xx

@@zzavid5911 Thank you! Also, since you asked for some sort of meaning. There were many but here's the main one I found (and discussed with my friends). The smile people have is hinting that the end of trauma is by suicide as that's where the pain ends (as hinted by the chart in the background of one of the scenes). It is kind of saying 'there was so much struggle, but now here I am about to end it all.' It's also creepier when you combine it with the fact that sometimes in trauma you can hit psychosis and start acting happy (mania).

The cat bit made me legit angry too. I get that it was trying to traumatize her because that's the kind of energy it feeds on, but fur babies always end up being targets in these films. When I was going through my chemo treatments as a kid for leukemia, I would remember a monster from my nightmares I felt represented my illness. I felt it arrived on the day of my illness as I remember dreaming of it before my diagnosis. It made going to sleep a constant anxiety attack. I dreaded each night until I could only think of the monster, it felt like hope was fleeting, and being a young child going through this all without full understanding of it, the tunnel feels bleak and it feels all-consuming. Hope is what pulled me out of it and when I hit my remission, the nightmares of that monster faded. This movie felt like the opposite side of the spectrum and what it is like to fully be consumed by your Trauma monster. love this movie, but at the same time truly despise it because it reminds me of a monster I hope never returns to my dreams again. anyways, love your content ZZAVID❤

I watched this movie in theaters with 2 friends of mine I literally started HYPERVENTILATING at the part when the girl cut her face open with the glass. It was just so uncomfortable and that shot was just so LONG that I just couldn't handle it 😭. This movie was so unnerving and definitely deserves to be one of the best horror movies in 2022

I watched this film at 2 am last night so I could watch your reaction.. sleeping after this film was a struggle. I felt so bad for rose because that Fiancé got on my nerves. She wasn’t wrong when she said he couldn’t be bothered with helping her through that trauma. It’s probably good she didn’t live through this experience because I would of ended up in a psych ward after living through that.
