Brad Pitt's accent is actually very good as he is playing a Traveller (gypsy) which is slightly diff from mainland Ireland. Think Tyson Fury. I have come into many British travellers in London in my lifetime and Brad's accent is surprisingly accurate

@@loisthehedgehog7658 guess it wasn’t bad! Actually pretty good. “Many, many gypsies talk a lot like that. It's not a regional dialect, it's just how some of us talk. Brad Pitt was taught by a relative of mine (Bobby Frankham) to fight mainly, but also to act like a traveller, and he even lived with him for a time while training so he could see how we live. So while his portrayal was exaggerated for sure, it actually is pretty accurate.”

I've known people with accent's identical to those portrayed, it was this movie that really shone a spotlight on Brad Pitt's acting abilities for me. Just shows alot of the humour is universal despite not everybody understanding the accents. You are right though mate, it is definitely worth watching again to fully appreciate it all. There is so much happening early on you are concenttrating more on learning the plot than enjoying the jokes. Tyrone, Lenny and Vincent in the car still one of the funniest things ever.

Of course - you can't know - in fact, most people outside the UK can't know, but the term "pikey" is considered quite the strong slur :D Sort of... like a good ol' Tarantino-dialog-moment! It's just fun to watch people wonder about the word, out loud In fact, it's a well known thing (even a whole meme-subject) the otherwise-liberal-European attitude toward Roma people (also known as "gypsi" - also consider a slur) as well as other kinds of "Travellers" (that may or may not be related to Roma-people, but share a similar culture and/or reputation) - it's very complicated, with a history that is both dark and ongoing. From what I understand, the "pikeys" in this film are non-Roma related, but still refered to as both "gypsi" and then "gippos" in at least one scene (yet a slur!)

'Pikies don't Play'. That should have been the film's tag line.

Bare knuckle gypsy boxing champion, which makes him harder than a coffin nail. Pitt's character is like the middleweight version of Tyson Fury fwiw.
