@@claudiag8823 well what happened was people went after the actors instead of criticizing the movie itself. It’s fine and honestly necessary to criticize movies, but you cross the line when you harass the actors themselves. That being said, I agree, I love the Ewoks, Jar Jar, and even young anakin. Jar Jar in particular was revolutionary for cgi, and the behind the scenes shows they really just were carried away having fun with him, but the point of his character is to not judge people based on the fact that they look or act different from you. Everyone else views Jar Jar as an idiot except qui-gon, and because Qui-gon found value in him, it led to Jar Jar saving the day by telling padme about the gungan army. This led to Palpetine’s plan (partially) failing and to the Gungan society finally being represented in the republic and having a say in the larger politics of the galaxy. In my mind, between Qui Gon and Anakin, there would have been an alarmingly large amount of force energy in the immediate vicinity from Maul's perspective. It seems bullyish to target a kid, but strategically, a little divide and conquer makes sense. Besides, any qualms I had there were monstrously overshadowed by the midi-chlorian buffoonery they were ham-handing into existence at the same time. Jedi are taken from their Families as Babies (younger than Anakin) so that they do not form any attachment as that can lead you in the dark attachment and strong feelings for things and certain people can affect your judgement and your actions

People need to also know it wasnt always like that in the Jedi's history as well. This is only the case for the current era these movies take place in. Older renditions of the order wernt taken as babies and also were permitted relationships, wives, husbands, etc.. What we see in these movies is an extremely strict version of the Jedi compared to their relative history. You might even say it's lore accurate as to literally why their downfall came about. It's mentioned many times in this era depicted that these Jedi are the most dogmatic theyve ever been, and its what clouded their judgment in avoiding what happened.

Just wanted to Clarify something for Ash. All the slaves on Tatooine are chipped so that they can’t run away. That’s why Qui Gon couldn’t take his Mother with them. Doing so would kill her and put the rest of the party, including the queen at risk. It’s very likely that had he survived his encounter with Darth Maul, Qui Gon would’ve gone back to free Anakin’s mother, but he sadly died. Just one of the many ways that Qui Gon’s death affected Anakin and led to his turn to the dark side. On a side note, Jedi’s in the republic are usually discovered and taken to begin training when they are very young. Often when they’re still infants, before they can create a strong bond with their parents. Because Tatooine wasn’t part of the republic, they didn’t sense Anakin’s existence which is why he wasn’t discovered earlier. It’s also why the Jedi counsel didn’t want to train him, because he was too old and already had developed relationships that could lead him down a path to the dark side. The life of a Jedi is a solitary one. It’s a life of service and selflessness, while the life of a Sith is the exact opposite.

Well, in the first one, yeah. And it was also because the sabers (due to the original attempt at the effect being practical, as spinning reflective rods) were rather flimsy in that first one, and couldn't take much abuse. I would absolutely say though that the Vader-Luke fight in ESB is still excellent, even in comparison to this one. It has dramatic action and tension. Not as wild and fast and amazing as this one, of course (which I would concede is overall more impressive), but I always thought it had some real power, style, intensity and drama to it.

@@Carl_Frank It works, all around I think. IN the prequels, the Jedi are in their prime, and lightsaber dueling is at least practiced if not common. The difference in choreography works well there.

yeah, if we think about it the first fight is between two old men. The other fights is between an old man and a just-made-jedi that didn't learned this style of fighting, since he trained with Yoda that was also very old. So just wanted to say a couple of things. 1. Anakin does bring balance by killing the emperor in the end (when he saves Luke, and he himself turns from the dark side in the end.) 2. Jedi are removed from their family when they are young so they don't have any connections. the council says Anakin is too old and has connection, plus they sense his fear of losing his mother so they are worried he'll turn. they believe this as an important part of the training of a jedi. 3. Maul has appearances in a couple of the animated shows, so there is more of him if you want to explore those. and another minor appearance somewhere that i wont spoil. Hannah brings up a good point about Qui Gon dying, in that he was the ones who had the values and training to possibly train Anakin in a way that would possibly avoid him turning to the dark side. The music during the fight is called the Duel of the Fates which possibly references the duel for Anakin's fate as a result of the fight. Can't wait to see how Hannah and ash react to some events coming in the next two films.

The piece of music over the lightsaber fight with Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-wan Kenobi, and Darth Maul was called "Duel of the Fates". It was released as a single before the film came out..and everyone was crazy for it. The little braid that Obi-wan has shows that he is a Padawan, not a fully Jedi Knight. He is still learning with Qui-Gon as his Master. Keira Knightley made her film debut as the handmaiden to Natalie Portman's Queen Padem Amidala. Ray Park, who plays Darth Maul, is a martial artist, and he played the role of Toad in the first X-Men film. However, the voice of Darth Maul was provided by actor Peter Serafinowicz, who is probably best known as The Somalier in John Wick Chapter 2, giving Wick a "tasting" of guns for his "party". The Sith (Darth Sidious and Darth Maul) follow the Rule of Two, a Master and Apprentice, One who holds the Power, and one who craves the Power. No more, no less. I am so surprised that the KZbin edit had no mention of Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu. He's one of my favorite characters in the Prequels...and when you see his lightsaber...it's sick!!! A bit of trivia...there is a real life family connection between the Prequels and the Original Trilogies. Ewan McGregor (Obi-wan Kenobi) is the nephew of actor Denis Lawson, who played the X-Wing pilot Wedge Antilles in the first trilogy. Wedge was in the group of X-Wings on the final run with Luke and Biggs on the first Death Star, he felled the first AT-AT walker on Hoth with the tow cable around its legs, and was the X-Wing pilot who took out the second Death Star with Lando Calrissien in the Millennium Falcon.

And also, until now, nobody has mentioned the connection between Ewan McGregor and Denis Lawson before here, not that I've seen; thought about adding it myself, but I thought it would maybe be confusing for them to identify Wedge/remember him^^. Well done from your side though bringing it up. I love these little bits of trivia, and would have loved to see Hannah and Ash's reactions learning about these things. That would have been wicked.

@@roborob4296 I love that Ash vibes hard with the, well, the vibes, but I do think Hannah has a better understanding of this series. Truly wonderful, how her mind works through themes, and a tragedy of Ash The Wise for someone who talks so often of symbolisms; ironic...

Hannah clocking the Queen Am decoy immediately is so good and so on-brand for her

I've just binged watched about 10 of your reactions including your Star Wars Journey. I'm so happy that you're finally doing this. You guys are great. I loved that you dressed as Yoda and Salacious Crumb

Something you have to remember is that the Jedi aren’t superheroes. They’re also political figures so they can’t just do anything they want to. They’re bound to laws of the system they’re on. Now, Qui Gon DID push the envelope just a little bit. He was in disagreement with the council multiple times and was willing to do the opposite. Some consider him to be closer to a “gray Jedi”, a more balanced force user. So what you saw was really the best of them. Hannah was right, if Qui Gon was still alive, it’s possible Anakin would have not turned.

Well, it took a few decades but i've seen someone who likes Jar Jar. And i can't understand why.

When Jake Lloyd drawls "The biggest problem in the universe is no-one helps each other", imagine George Lucas delivering that line. It is uncanny.

Why would I imagine a billionaire saying that line?

Why would George deliver it? Huh?
