I watched the originals as a child near their release dates so not young. I am in the minority amongst my peers but I think this movie is awesome and not ashamed to admit it, despite the hate it gets. I got several goosebumps towards the end and found myself crying loads. It was an epic emotional rollercoaster and the sign of an excellent movie to stir my emotions that much. Palpatine obviously has something to do with that because lets face it he is a legend of the franchise, despite the retcon being met with lots of negativity. Anyway its up there with episode 3 and episode 6 for me

This film means a lot to me.. it came around during the most difficult time of my life and I needed it. I lost my Mother the month before so seeing Ben’s story with Leia and Rey’s with her parents and messages such as “confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi” felt very powerful to me at a time where I was so afraid for the future. It’s a beautiful conclusion to the saga and pays homage to every film that came before in some subtle and some major ways. For example Dark Rey’s double bladed red saber being a cool callback to Darth Maul, Kylo discovering a cloning labs, a secret army and a hidden planet like Obi-Wan in Episode 2, Kylo on Mustafar at the start of the film, where Anakin and Obi had their duel, the Star Destroyer blowing up Kijimi like the Death Star blew up Alderaan in the original movie, Luke lifting the X-wing like Yoda did in Empire, Ben falling down a pit like Palpatine did in Return of the Jedi, the Han/Kylo moment recreated with the hand on the cheek and of course the continuation of the bond between Rey and Kylo established in the previous film. These are just a few examples of how it references all the previous movies. Also I just love that Anakin’s voice was there at the end encouraging Rey to repair the balance, 🥹 he’s my boy. Very glad you enjoyed the film Stef! The way you said “all the Jedi” simultaneously with Rey gave me chills 😂❤ May the Force be with you

Okay, I gotta say, when I first saw the teaser for this film, and I heard Palpatine laugh, I was like, "No friggin' way! How the hell did he survive being thrown down a reactor shaft in Episode VI?!", I was like WTF when Rey accidentally used Force Lightning, my jaw dropped when Rey was revealed to be Palpatine's grandchild, I friggin' cried with Chewie when Commander D'Arcy said Leia was dead (seriously, that broke my heart), and boy howdy, I was geeking out inside when I heard all the past Jedi Masters' voices, including Qui-Gon, Anakin, Yoda, Ahsoka, and Kanan (you gotta watch The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka to learn about the latter two). Loved this movie. And I'm sure it seemed weird for you seeing Carrie Fisher in it when she died after the previous film, but it's stock footage from Episodes VII and VIII. JJ Abrams was against using CGI for Leia in this movie. Carrie's brother and Billie Lourd gave him their blessing to use the footage, but Lourd did act as a digital stand-in for her mother during the flashback training scene. And even though Harrison Ford's cameo was uncredited, it was still nice to see him back in the role for the last film in the Skywalker Saga. Edit: Forgot to mention, that's Abrams himself voicing D-0.

I'm with you. Overall I enjoyed this movie but I feel like JJ tried to undo some of the bold steps Johnson took in Last Jedi. And hearing the voices of past Jedi was incredible but I wish they had gone a step further and shown all their force ghosts behind her to really emphasize that they were all with her. I also still think they could have done more with Finn's story.

Most reactors dont have 40+ years invested in the franchise. I'm not saying they can't enjoy the movies on the same level but fans since the original trilogy had to wait 20 years for the sequels and were disappointed; then fans of the prequels waited a decade plus for the sequels and THEY were disappointed in the sequels as well as the fans of the originals. Reactors just consume, live the moment and move on. From her reaction I'm glad Stef liked the sequels, she doesnt consume an infinite number of SW content and is worried about agendas or caught in KKs managing of the franchise. BTW im a fan since the originals and for the most part liked the sequels over the prequels.

@@BatFan1 I waited 20 years since the prequels, only disappointing thing for me was that they gave Poe a girlfriend so Russia and china could show the film when they got scared around all the gay discourse. We also needed more cameos in the battle of exegol, less cringe screaming from Finn and we needed to scrap his force sensitive plot as it went nowhere and was really shoe horned in, apart from that 🤷🏻‍♂️ I liked them all

@@myLocoson If you like to think logically, have realistic character motivations and believable world building then the sequel movies are not good. if you don't ask "why" or "how" and just ask "who" and "what" then the sequel trilogy is definitely content in the star wars universe that you can consume. there's no theme or growth, just stuff happening and it happens to be star wars

So, there's this thing called self-identity and paying homage. And people can do that of their own free will. Luke and Leia both led her and served as surrogate parents, as did Han. And that whole family was the home Rey was always looking for. It makes sense for her to don their family name, as well as refuse the name of the evil man she was related to for no fault of her own. The spirits looking on approvingly to her in that moment also really works for me. Nobody is saying she's literally a blood relative. As Luke says, "some things are stronger than blood."

Maybe you should come over to the Reylo Side. He didn't resurrect her on her heart or head, where death would have to be reversed. He touched her Abdomen. Episode One was about a boy who exists because Darth Plagueis manipulated the Midichlorians to create Life. What better way to end the saga than with going full circle and having a Skywalker do the same to continue the line??? All one has to do is take out their patriarchal stick from the backside and stop seeing him as Ben Solo and see he is also a Skywalker.

My opinion when I saw it for the first time? I'll be honest; when I saw that they had destroyed Anakin's legacy and the meaning of 6 Episodes of Star Wars, I simply ate my popcorn and walked out of the cinema because I had never been so pissed off before. Now, I'll ask a question that challenges the sense of this film: Palpatine returned. Of course, in the movie, there is no sensible explanation other than a brief mention of cloning. Well, according to the book, in episode VI he transferred his consciousness to a clone. (So Anakin is not the chosen one because he survived) Now, I'll ask a crucial question: How do we know that he has been destroyed now and won't do it again? It doesn't make sense. (Plus, I'd like to add that Palpatine lost the war. Where did he build this fleet and where did he get the crew for it?)

I like them all. But, I was there in the theater for the first "Star Wars - A New Hope." I like JJ Abrams style of directing. I like the actors in this trilogy. I appreciate the hard work and dedication from everyone who contributed to the development of these films as well. And, I enjoy Stef Solari's heartfelt reaction. Thanks Stef! The first time I watched this movie, Star Wars had basically been destroyed for me. What they changed Luke into in The Last Jedi really turned my opinion for the sequels. In the first movie, it almost happened when kylo Ren killed Han Solo, one of my heroes was murdered by his own child. With that being said, did Han Solo deserve to go out that way?... When Rey and kylo ren decided to kiss, I almost threw up. In no universe, would it ever make sense that these two are together. Rey and kylo, how did you meet? Rey gets to tell everybody that she was kidnapped by kylo Ren, and then he tried to invade her mind with the force, then shortly after killed the only father figure that she had accepted since she was abandoned. And at the end, when she calls herself Rey Skywalker, I am screaming at the TV. What did Leia say? Actually, she told Rey to never be afraid of Who You Are, so instead of embracing that she is a Palpatine, she calls herself a different last name. The entire sequel trilogy is an abomination. Every single one of movies kills off Our Heroes from the old movies. Han Solo is murdered by his son Movie 1, Luke Skywalker dies from using the force.................. Movie 2, then in Movie 3, Leia dies using the force... seriously 🤦 it's terrible Please explain to me how midi chlorines that live inside our cells, life forms living together for a mutual advantage double note that last part, ever supposed to kill a living organism that it's living with for Mutual advantage. There's not supposed to be a tank that empties with the force or that drains your life just for using it unless you want to accept Force healing which is only supposed to be in video games but in a game force healing, you do to yourself, you don't lose life for healing yourself🤦 so dumb

In the games, you don't die healing.... like I said if you want to accept Force healing in the movies which has never been shown, too bad we didn't force heal Anakin in Return of the Jedi, too bad we didn't force heal Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace. I'm just saying there are times that it could have been used but hasn't been used. Also at the same time I see what you're saying it's dark side so the Jedi shouldn't be able to use it I guess and Rey Palpatine was a Mary Sue so she gets to use everything, even force⚡️ when she's not trying to I guess.. so dumb. Apparently palpatine was trying to clone himself but he could never create a clone wit that had the force. Rey's father is a clone of palpatine. Some people don't like the fact that he returned, but the first expanded universe book opened with the fact that Luke fell to the dark side for a while, and served a reincarnated palpatine. The dark side always tries to cheat death, so it being included in this movie never bothered me. Some of the other stuff did but this movie is still a lot of fun and very watchable.

So glad to see a comment where someone else remembers Palps came back twice and almost took the body of the unborn Anakin Solo until Han kills him for good! It just amuses me to see people acting like Palps coming back as a concept just came out of nowhere. Stef says, "I dont know if there will be a next film or what it will be about." As of February 2024, today, Saturday; yes and no. Yes, we know there will be another feature film in the Star Wars Universe, and no, we dont know what it will be about. So, if you're like me, you'll have something to look forward to ans there is speculation that some cast members from the previous trilogy will be in it. Daisy Ridley has been announced that she is the protagonist in the next installment and she supposedly will be the binding force in this new storyline. Dont know if it is a single film or multiple films. But one thing is certain: whether your a critic or a huge fan, it's likely that you'll be in the theaters to watch it... Love it or hate it, you cant help yourselves ... You want to be there! Star wars junky! Lastly, it's been rumored that the new story will have nothing to do with the previous episodes, but it's too early to tell. Be the force. 😊 Cheers! Thanks Stef. 👍😎

Tons of nostalgia for me with 4-6, growing up in the 80's. I still enjoyed 7-9 more than I did 1-3, but all still 'OK' movies. You should watch The Clone Wars. It is an epic series. I'm glad you enjoyed this movie. It's not my favorite of the ST (that would be TLJ), and towards the bottom in my rankings of all the films, but I still loved it and it has many emotional moments. Ignore the haters. They have their reasons, but they are a minority and just have the loudest voice, plus many are influenced by very popular hate channels. The best thing to come out of this movie is we're getting a movie with Rey that takes place about 15 years later when she's a Jedi Master who teaches new young Jedi. It'll probably come out sometime in 2026.

4:12 um, not cutting through the guy? 4:40 now wait a minute, I swear you could hear Vader's breathing there. I know I sound crazy, but Chewie actually dying might've made the movie better, knowing what was at stake now. Him just living was...odd. I can't stand seeing R2 and Chewie sad. 😭😭😭😭 I liked how Luke's journey came full circle. He lifted his own ship he tried to lift in ESB but couldn't. I liked seeing Wedge Antilles again. I just don't get why people hate Rey taking the name of Skywalker. 1: Luke and Leia were looking on to her as if they knew she, at heart, was a Skywalker, denying the Palpatine name, and 2: if Ben and Rey are a dyad, 2 that are 1, that makes Rey a Skywalker because Ben is. That 2nd "example" was a bit of a stretch I'll admit, but still.

The one thing I feel this trilogy really dropped the ball on was not having the OT characters all reunite for at least one last time . I get that they wanted to push the OT characters to the side for the new, but not having Luke Leia and Han Chewie etc having one last hurrah together really fucked with me . Great reactions though !

It was a good watch the first time around but when you collectively put the sequel trilogy together it is a mess and a disservice to the first six films. Not only do the sequel films feel like siblings fighting with each other, but they also do a massive disservice to the prophecy that Anakin brings balance by killing Palpatine and his redemption by his son. I hope Disney really does some self reflection when creating the next trilogy. Rey and friends have potential but need lots of work.

the negative reaction to The Last Jedi plus Fisher's death meant ep9 would be an extremely uphill battle. The fact that it navigated that and we still got a decent watchable movie is pretty much a miracle. I really like The Rise of Skywalker personally and felt it was a fun adventure with heart.

The entire sequel trilogy was so apparent that it was poorly written and not even written in a style george lucas the creator of starwars would have made it, which sets these 3 movies apart from even the prequel trilogy. To put into perspect I saw episode 1, 2, 3, 7, and rogue one in theater with my dad and sister which was a tradition in my family, I did not see 8 or 9 in theaters because I felt 8 and 9 represented the complete destruction of everything I grewup with and all the expanded starwars material like the jedi knight games showing a master luke skywalker teaching a new generation of jedi at his yavin jedi praxeum. Sam witwer says it best that the luke in return of the jedi who throws his weapon aside and chooses to be merciful to spare his father because his love drove him to kindness and he rejected hatred because he was a jedi and the best jedi who ever lived, that luke skywalker never for a moment would try to kill his nephew, it's not in the nature of him to do that not the way the creator of starwars laid out that characters development over 4, 5, and 6. Please don't take that as I hate everything disney has put out cuz I don't, I love mandalorian, book of boba fett, alot of ahsoka, visions, the young jedi adventures for little kids, rogue one, solo, jedi fallen order, jedi survivor, and squadrons they're all great, but stuff like Andor, Obiwan Kenobi (I liked it at first til I broke it down), and the entire sequel trilogy are just stories that bastardize a character that had a religious level of importance in my life. Yall gotta think, those of us who grewup with starwars from birth and alot of us from my era grewup watching a little boy (anakin) lose everything and everyone he loved and because of twisted traditions in the old jedi order he ended up having to give in to the dark side out of fear of losing his wife and that boy ended up miserable everyday of his life after that moment until we see his son following a path that could have lead him to evil and still rejecting the teachings of yoda and obiwan that would have repeated their past mistakes and luke redeeming his father and becoming a jedi that would give kindness to the world. To spoil an old starwars novel I'm sure you'll never read, the book trilogy is called the jedi academy trilogy and in it one of lukes jedi students falls to the dark side and luke goes to confront this young man who had fallen and luke fights him and when he wins the young man effectively tells luke to finish him and luke kinda is like "this was never about me coming to kill you, I came here to rescue you" and turns his student back to the light and then showing his immense power in the force uses it to put a space station in a cluster of black holes to make sure no one can get to it again and showing the ultimate example of a true jedi. That spoke volumes for me when I read it the first time. Starwars is more than just a fictional scifi story to people like me, alot of my kind of people modeled our entire moral compass after the allegory of luke and anakins relationship and that's something worth fighting for to me. In the words of samwise gamgee "I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

So I really like the Dyad Trilogy and a lot of criticism on it is in regards to them making it up as they went along and shifting intentions but to those people I remind them that Vader was not Luke’s father in a new Hope and Leia was not Luke’s sister in Empire. I didn’t get too caught up in sequel theory land and just took the movies for what they were. Personally I prefer the Dyad trilogy to the Anakin Trilogy. Nothing will ever surpass the Luke Trilogy though. So I appreciated what this trilogy brought us. At the end of the day Star Wars is cloning and space ghosts so I liked that they brought back Palpatine and I liked that Rey and Ben are the descendants of Vader and Palpatine. However they got there I like where we arrived. And I’m very much looking forward to the next trilogy of Daisy Ridley led Rey Skywalker films.

@@mattrismatt JJ Abrams gave Rian an outline but Rian did his own thing making requests like you need to put R2 on the Falcon to make this one gag work so they were working in conjunction but they didn’t have a lot specific ideas about who Rey was going to be because they were setting up a lot of red herrings intentionally and Colin riffed on what JJ and Rian did but when Carrie died they completely changed the trajectory of the franchise.

i started to think about it tho, JJ abrams made a big mystery box in TFA but all the things in it are kinda shit. The last scene is a great example- what was luke doing on the island for 10 years while the republic he helped build was being undermined? what was he doing that made him abandon everything and cut off everyone? i hate what Rian Johnson did, hate it a lot, but the more i think about it that's a pretty shitty situation to have to write an excuse for Luke being there. Rian kinda picked something that was unearned and lame, but what if luke did become super depressed off screen and just wanted to give up i guess. would make sense. who are Rey's parents? is there an answer that would be exciting or cool? not really.. why was that even a plot point --JJ abrams is the one who decided the original 3 would never be on the screen at the same time again. JJ killed Han solo. Luke never even got to see Han again in the new trilogy. Oops! JJ broke force powers first. having Rey do force persuasion on a storm trooper out of nowhere without ever having seen it done before? on the first attempt? well at that point shes as good as Obi wan or Qui gon sooo Rian can do w/e Remember when Rey tells Han he's a stupid bitch that doesn't know his own ship and rips out a computer chip so it flies better? that was JJ JJ set up the Knights of Ren and never used them JJ set up the visions on the lightsaber "a good story, for another time" still waiting for the right time to hear that story JJ destroyed the Republic at the end of TFA. So now it's back to "rebels vs empire", a republic army would seem stupid after watching 5 Republic planets get obliterated (one being the capital) Honestly being handed all that shit with very little substance i can see why Rian was like "fuck it" and decided to just do whatever he wanted. i think TLJ is worse than TFA, it's fucking awful, but i kinda blame JJ more than i do Rian for the failure of the trilogy

One of them will be moving forward with Rey building up her new version of the Jedi order, two will br set during the time of The Mandalorian, and one will be super mystical and set way early at the origin of the Jedi. Eh, not my reading of that scene. Rey is defending herself, she doesn't strike him down or attack him at all. She's acting in total self-defense and Palpatine sort of kills himself out of ego and over confidence.

​@@hargibson18 Watch the scene again. Rey _was_ defending herself... until she summoned the second lightsaber, which was used to reflect the lightning back at the Emperor, causing him to come apart. Then with screaming rage, Rey deliberately forced a 'chunk' of lightning energy at ol' Palps, causing him to explode. After such a specific, morbid threat from her evil grandfather, coming away with the assumption that she somehow got away with it is a bit naive, I think.

When I saw this in theater, I thought they had killed Chewbacca and was about to walk out of the theater... I was happy to see that he was alive and then, at the end when he was given the medal that he should have received after destroying the first Death Star, I was even happier. @@movieswithmatticus5469 I'm aware, but I always separated the movies and the EU. I adore Jedi Outcast but I realize that Kyle should have been in the OT to be regarded as canon. KotOR and SWTOR are more of a grey zone, since they take place so long before the movies. It's not like Revan has to have been mentioned in the movies in order to be canon. The easiest principle to uphold is ofc to simply regard Episode 1-6 as the canon. Because there are no contradictions there and the quality of that material is unmatched.
