To echo what others may be saying, I do recommend watching both the 2001 Special Edition of Superman: The Movie and the 2006 version of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. Both films are meant to be what Richard Donner envisioned for Superman. When Donner was let go and replaced, and a new director was picked, he had to have directed a certain percentage of the film in order to get full credit. So of the 75% of the film shot by Donner, 2/3rds of that was thrown out and reshot. This included all scenes Marlon Brando had shot for Part 2.

Here's some easter eggs for the 2000s pre superman show "Smallville" with Matt Wellling as Clark Kent. Christopher reeves, Margot Pergot "Lois Lane " and Terrence Stamp " Zod" all made cameo or guest star appearances in the show. And Stamp is the most iconic and ironi as he portrayed Welling's Kal-el/C. KENT as the voice of Jor-el. Talk about full circle 😊

There are two cuts to Superman 2. The theatrical cut and the original Director’s cut/ Donner Cut. Richard Donner was fired by Warner executives, the Sulkins, while he was in the middle of filming the movie. Richard Lester finished the movie and did reshoots. He got directors credit for this cut. I absolutely love the first 2 movies (I quite like the third too). The two movies were filmed at the same time, and most of the people working on it didn't realize they were making two different movies, and the production company got sued over that since the actors, etc, were only paid for making 1 film. I haven't seen the Donner cut of the films yet, but I understand that the original intent was that Superman reverse time in order to undo damage caused by the Phantom Zone villains. Which makes more sense to me since that, plus Lois's death, gave Superman more motive to mess with history, which is a dangerous thing. Otherwise, being able to travel back in time whenever you want is too much of a deus ex machina. The result of things being recut into two films were several plot contrivances that weakened the story, like Superman's on and off again powers, but the movies are still fun and exciting enough for me to overlook that. Plus I tend to see more glaring issues with most modern films.

44:20 that's cool, except Action Comics #1 *STARTS* with "over-explaining" of Superman's powers and only reason why additional powers (or complications from suddenly having them like how complication of super-hearing was demonstrated in Reign of the Super-Man) weren't explained (besides Secret Citadel gym introduce in Superman #17) is due to limitations of comics at that time. It is *natural* for Superman to be a sci-fi character rather than "just turn your brain off".

When Siegel started Superman he could only jump 1/8 of mile, run faster than a train but *slower* than bullet, tank handheld guns but be knocked out by artillery and explosions could potentially destroy him And when he was unjustly fired ,by dishonest company that didn't even want to publish Superman for 5 yeas in the first place and who needed to literally sue Fawcett Comics to close Captain Marvel because in 50s he was more popular than Superman almost as if certain someone didn't work on him anymore, in 1947 Superman had : invisible level of super speed (just compare Superman #4 , #6 and #17) , super hearing and x-ray vision, ability to somehow control his momentum (compare his landing on the ground in Superman #1 with #17) which is the real reason behind "flight" notice that in original and in general comics before 1986 reboot (in which most of his powers became variations on telekinesis and telepathy really with electromagnetic reaction at its core) Superman never stands still in the air, ability to absorb energy and vibration and redistribute it (Superman #5, Action Comics #72 cover, Superman #17), ability to completely shapeshift (Superman #45), ability to do low level telepathy manipulation (Superman #45 once again), ability to instantly understand and speak any language (Superman #14), and one of final abilities able to time travel (Superman #48). It is interesting that Superman The Movie, ie first Reeve starring film, shows ONLY abilities that were made with Siegel on the character so there is no heat vision or freeze breath because it was made/added After Siegel left (although still something within original "logic", especially heat vision originally being just more intense x-ray vision). What I wrote is for you to understand the context. How character went from basic and very simple premise of "Superman" ie someone that can "super-run" and "super-jump" and be "super-tough", to then being able to absorb energy and shapeshift. It is as if Spider-Man one day would be able to teleport (weird, right? but you Don't question spider-sense which really doesn't fall for anything "spider" considering that it allows him to hear certain frequency (The Amazing Spider-Man #1), but it is there because original creators put it there). So really, all these weird powers and gadgets are within original core of Superman by his creator, weird but within "limits" which are none really. Btw Superman used cape to really glide (Superman #6) before Batman ever did for next 20-30 years. "Teleportation" is probable partly super speed, partly well, teleportation. Though, none of that was in any comics, especially where Superman fought any other kryptonian.
