I can’t believe how long Ash and Hannah kept believing their theory that this was a broadcast show. 😂
@caggles

Honestly, that's not exactly wrong, lol. The old gods represent the typical horror movie audience. That's why it matters that these deaths follow all the expected tropes - if you have sex in a horror movie then you die first, there has to be a final girl, etc etc. Because that's what the audience wants, and the audience must be appeased.
@xorngoh7303
@xorngoh7303 8 ай бұрын
They're not wrong to say that it was a broadcast show. Remember they even have one in different countries and languages. Except the audience are the Old Gods that just want to watch youngsters suffer in a specific way.

@@caggles I interpret this as a justification for why Horror movies are so tropey. This movie explains why every character in every classic American horror movie makes terrible decisions, like investigating the scream/sound/creepy cabin instead of running, and why there is always the 4-5 stereotypical victims. It's an homage to the Horror genre while also being a parody of the Horror genre at the same time. It also explains the regional horror tropes too... Japan having a Ringu girl, younger victims, no adult intervention, Sweden with it's natural disaster tropes, Argentina giant monsters trope. Aztec style sacrifice to appease the gods or they awake. The blood is required, the Gods aren't watching the murders... they are sleeping.

Funny thing I recently learned about why the actor who plays Marty wears baggy clothes in the summer... They didn't think people would buy him as a nerdy stoner if people saw how ripped his muscles were. He was actually in as good or better shape as the other 2 actors.

false actually 🤓☝ it was widely known that the actor who played marty only agreed to this movie because he had never worn baggy clothes in the summer in a movie. he would always ask where the baggy clothes were and be seen walking around set holding his baggy clothes.

The rituals vary based on the individual cultures running the facility. The different monsters and victims are all different tropes from American pop culture. The Japanese facility would have monster choices based on Japanese folklore, the Swedish facility would have Norse folklore, etc. it’s all about the metaphor, they have strong cultures meaning and that’s why they matter to the Ancients
@vdt952
@vdt952 9 ай бұрын
Funny thing about that example. The Swedish facility is a joking reference to the movie The Thing (1982), because Kurt Russel's character keeps referring to the Norwegians as "Swedish." The quick glance you get at the screen labelled Stockholm shows a building with a strong resemblance to the one in The Thing.

symbolisms - We, the audience, are the giant old gods who demand the blood... who want the characters to die....who are there to watch them die violently. The movie is a satirical loving jab to horror tropes and the horror genre. The development of relationships is cut for the workers doing their job. Cuz you don't want that. You just want to see dumb people getting killed by a cool monster until the ONE likeable virgin is the survivor. Except this time she wasn't a virgin and she wasn't likeable. The "fool" was. So fun facts; - The "Elder Gods" that the facility warns us about is actually us, the viewers. People don't like horror movies unless they're the old-school slasher movies from the 80s, hence the archetypes need to die for it to be "successful" - There's a bunch of horror movie tropes as monsters, namely Pinhead being the chainsaw guy, the Buckners being the family from The Hills Have Eyes and so on. Though, there is a few "famous" monsters, like the special zombies from Left 4 Dead appearing in the cubes, and my personal favorite, the space pirates from Firefly, the Reavers, throwing a dude off a balcony and into the mouth of the giant snake.

I think I get what Ash was trying to say. At first he didn’t like that there wasn’t a deeper connection with the characters but he realized that that’s the point. These people are horror tropes and merely representatives of the horror stereotypes (i.e., the virgin who isn’t a virgin) so we’re not supposed to actually care about them. We’re just supposed to enjoy the ride. Love this reaction yall!
@DaniJay-fk8qr

One of the things I like about this movie is that you DO care about the characters, or at least don't dislike them. In a lot of horror movies (especially ones trying to be "cool"), the characters are often so unlikable, you almost find yourself routing for them to get killed off. But, with this movie, most people seem to like these characters from the start, and feel bad most of them probably aren't going to make it out alive. The fact that they're being twisted to fit certain stereotypes doesn't make me not care about them. It makes me feel bad for them. Because they don't actually fit the stereotypes. That's the point. They're being drugged up and manipulated to fit specific roles so they can be killed for it, which isn't their fault. Personally, when I first realized what was going on, it made me hope they'd be able to fight back and survive what was being (unfairly) done to them.

I’m sorry but the girl from Alien, I can’t let that go, that is Sigourney Weaver and she is a legend, she deserves her flowers. 😂 Great reaction though.
