It's also sad about those affected by the death of Brandon, and I don't just mean Eliza, his fiancée. James O'Barr, the creator of the comic, blamed himself for years for Lee's death to the point where he wish he had never created the comic that the film was adapting, which was already adding to the guilt he felt for the death of his fiancée (which lead to the creation of the comic in the first place). Years later, he finally reconnected with Eliza, and she told him it wasn't his fault for Brandon's death, and it started to help O'Barr to finally ease the guilt he felt. Rochelle Davis, who played Sarah, was so negatively impacted by Lee's death that she turned to drug use and eventually found herself homeless for a while. She eventually sobered up, and she started meeting fans at conventions. The one I feel the most sorry for is Michael Massee, who played Funboy in the film and was the one who fired the prop gun that killed Brandon Lee. He took a year off from acting because he was suffering shock. In an interview years later, he mentioned he still had nightmares about what happened that day. And it's heartbreaking to think that he still haunted by what happened until his passing.

There is another little known fact. Halfway through the film Eric starts wearing black tape across his stomach with no explanation. There was an unfilmed scene for after he pulled the morphine out of Darla's arm. A character, I believe his name was "The Caretaker", appears and reprimands Eric for doing that to Darla. That was not the reason he was sent back, and he takes the razor Darla dropped and cuts his stomach open and says, "that won't heal." And Eric tapes the wounds shut...

@@sonofspock1 That is the Skull Cowboy, and you can find the deleted scenes online. They weren't cut for budget. They could never make the character look and sound good enough. Director Alex Proyas thought the look they had was cheesy and they supposedly had a new version to screen test that would actually work for close ups.. Brandon Lee was killed with just 3 days of shooting remaining, and among the scenes scheduled were the revised Skull Cowboys scenes. The movie does not NEED the Skull Cowboy. Most of the Crows rules can be assumed based on the onscreen action. However he raises the stakes in the final fight. The one filmed scene is right before Eric enters the church, the Cowboy reveals he is a previous Crow. He was brought back for revenge just like Eric, but he deviated from the mission and started helping people, losing the Crow's power. He was killed (a second time) and could not get back to the afterlife, wandering the world as a ghost. He warns Eric that if he goes to rescue Sara, he will be mortal, and if he dies he will not be reunited with Shelly.

A crow makes a cawing sound & a raven makes a lower croaking sound. I once ran across a bunch of crows outside my apt., complex on top of a trash bin, as I walked by them they watched me. All I could think of at the time is the movie The Birds. 😃 I believe they were scavenging for something in the trash bin. That's the first time I saw crows that close up, they were pretty big. Heroin really can be a milky colour, but more often than not it is brown. Morphine, the active agent in heroin, is naturally white in colour, but it darkens depending on what it is "cut" with. Because pure morphine is expensive it is often cut with other, easier to acquire, analgesics such as paracetamol or fentanyl and they darken the final product. An age old adage amongst junkies is "white heroin is good heroin".

The Crow is my favorite movie and has been since I was a child. My wife and I were married on Halloween. The story behind James O'Barr is tragic however. Growing up his father was against him being a comic book artist. He met a woman who supported him and the two were engaged. However she was killed by a drunk driver. Years later he released The Crow with Shelly modeled after his late fiancee. When the movie was being filmed Brandon Lee died while filming the opening scene of T Bird and his men killing him. This is why in the flashes the last one of the past was him being shot. It was that scene that killed him when Michael Massey (Funboy) was given the wrong prop gun that shot Brandon. The scene was finished with CGI showing him going out the window. His stunt/Body Doubles finished the film with several back shots and shots with their hair in their faces to hide that it wasn't him. Hence the guitar scenes being distant shots and from neck down. Sarah coming to the apartment and it being his silhouette and a back shot of him hugging her. Even the face paint scene being extreme closeups through the broken mirror. It was Eliza (Brandon's fiancee) who insisted the film be finished to honor him. James O'Barr sunk into a deep depression blaming himself for his fiancee and Brandon's death cursing the creation of The Crow. Eliza stayed in contact and became a close friend who supported James and reassured him it wasn't his fault. Years later O'Barr re-released the original Graphic Novel with a letter to the fans apologizing for his hiatus and thanking them for their love and support. The re-release even included a completed ending as closure for the deaths of his fiancee and Brandon Lee. Michael Massey who played Funboy was destroyed emotionally and mentally over Brandon's death and took a hiatus from acting himself. He did a few minor roles including one in Criminal Minds a few years before he himself passed away.

In interviews he made during the filming he talked about the idea of being dead and wanting to talk to the people you left behind, but knew you only had a short time to set things right. When Brandon was reciting poetry he was paraphrasing Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven". Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door - Only this, and nothing more." Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December, And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor. Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore - For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore - Nameless here for evermore. And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating, Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door - Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; - This it is, and nothing more." Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer, Sir," said I, "or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore; But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping, And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door, That I scarce was sure I heard you"- here I opened wide the door; - Darkness there, and nothing more. Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before; But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token, And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore?" This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!" - Merely this, and nothing more. Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning, Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before. Surely," said I, "surely that is something at my window lattice: Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore - Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; - 'Tis the wind and nothing more." Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore; Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he; But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door - Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door - Perched, and sat, and nothing more. Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore. Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore - Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!" Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore." Much I marveled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly, Though its answer little meaning- little relevancy bore; For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being Ever yet was blest with seeing bird above his chamber door - Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door, With such name as "Nevermore. Amazing movie. R.I.P. Brandon Lee.

Rochelle Davis, the actress who played Sarah had to come back to shoot this scene some after Bradon Lee's death. It was hard for her because they became friends during production. That close-up shot with the smile and tears is genuine because she stated she felt that she got the chance to say goodbye to Brandon.

Hi Kat! I was SO the target audience for this movie as a teenage boy in 94! The whole cast was recognisable from other iconic performances. Anna Thomsen (who played Darla) was coming off True Romance and Unforgiven, the great Michael Wincott who played Top Dollar was Guy of Gisborne in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Ernie Hudson was most famous as a Ghostbuster, David Patrick Kelley had starred in The Warriors and Twin Peaks, and props to you for recognising Tony Todd even while he is shrouded in darkness. The scene where liquid is escaping from Darla's arm is indeed supposed to be drugs leaving her body.

I was going to CGI School in North Carolina when they filmed this movie. We had a session with the special effects people from this movie. They showed us which scenes were body double. They were 3 days shy of finishing filming. When the tragedy happened. The body double was Chad Stahelski, the director of the John wick movies

The bit about "Devil's Night" - it originally started s Mischief Night where pranks and practical jokes were played. In Detriot between the early 70's to the mid 90's, though, it had devolved into vandalism, looting and arson, especially of abandonded industrial buildings.

Brandon Lee sadly died during the making of this, a freak accident with a prop gun, he filmed most scenes but they had to add in a body double for others where you couldn't see his face. The scene where "Funboy" shoots at him, was apparently when it happened. Crew didn't realise anything bad had happened until they noticed Brandon not getting back up. He was meant to be married shortly after this wrapped to Eliza, hence the tribute at the end. And in case you didn't know, he was Bruce Lee's son.

This is one of the very rare examples where, in my opinion, the movie is better than the comic. Eric is more than just a mindless vengeance machine in the movie. He's humble to the good and has the capacity and desire to help others. He kills his targets with their vices (mostly) and giving the villains an interest in the occult gives them a weakness in Eric to exploit. This movie is and has always been one of my favourites. Fantasic story telling, the setting and pace of the movie really set the mood, the cinematography is on point, it has a killer soundtrack, the cast is perfect and Brandon's performance cannot be surpassed by anyone. It really is a tragedy that we lost him far too soon. 30 years on and that message at the end always hits me. Rest in peace, Brandon.

Kat I absolutely love watching with you, your enthusiasm & appreciation are unmatched & outstanding!!! The film is set in Detroit & it was shot in North Carolina, the constant rain was a metaphor for the constant misery James O'Barr the author of the comic book felt about losing his fiance to a drunk driver & his constant anger & depression!!! The soundtrack is absolutely stellar, they don't make music like that anymore, mores the pity!!! What makes the film so bittersweet was the horrific loss of Brandon Lee to a horrible on set accident that could've been easily prevented!!!!!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, it's one of my favorite films of all time!!! Cheers Kat!

This movie is just plain beautiful, it is sad that we won't see the same type of horror movies today. Most people often forget or simply are uneducated that horror goes beyond the narrow definition of today's mediocrity as being all about the jumpscare , after all the horror genre was born from the old gothic romance stories full of tragedy, woe and beauty. Horror deals with the sublime. "I don't know about angels but is fear that gives men wings" Max Payne

And contrary to urban legend, the scene in which he was shot is _not_ actually in the film. I know people like to say, "it was this scene" or "that scene." But nothing showing the sequence that led to his death is in the film in any capacity.
@Superdave1317 ай бұрын
@@lokithecat7225 The difference between the two was Brandon Lee's was a freak accident. They used a dummy round in the previous shot with the revolver (had the bullet and primer but not gun power) to show the revolver loaded but when it was fired there was enough gunpower in the primer that it pushed the bullet into the barrel of the gun but not out. The next take had blanks in the revolver (just primer and gunpowder, no bullet). With there being a bullet unknowingly lodged in the barrel from the previous take, when the blank was fired it acted as though a real live ammunition was loaded. With Rust, they had real live ammunition on set instead of blanks.
@grogdizzy58147 ай бұрын
@@Superdave131 Wasn't really a freak accident. The revolver should have been cleared properly after the dummy round scene. The armorer should have noticed the bullet missing from the cartridge and should have checked to see light through the barrel. 100% the fault of whoever was in charge of weapon safety

I think one of my favorite things about this movie is that we’re always seeing Shelly through Eric’s memories. It drives home how much he loved her and how motivated that love makes him to avenge her, even without being certain that they’re going to be reunited in the end.

Just a note from a former heroin addict - pulling the plunger back before you press it down is called "registering" and it's something you're supposed to do, it doesn't introduce air bubbles. You can tell by the blood that comes up into the syringe whether you are actually in a vein, which is super important. When you miss and inject into muscle it's likely to cause an abscess, plus it won't really do much, so it's something you want to avoid. To get rid of the air, you want to turn it upside down (and maybe tap it) so that all the air goes to the top and then push the plunger in until it pushes all the air out.
@RustyX20107 ай бұрын
Is the shooting up scene in Pulp Fiction more accurate?
@flingonber7 ай бұрын
@@RustyX2010 Yep, pretty damn accurate although I don't think anybody has used that kind of syringe in a long time...disposable ones are pretty cheap.
@tkurz30717 ай бұрын
congratulations on kicking that habit, sincerely. also thank you for the proper information.
@hellomark17 ай бұрын
Also from what I've read, yeah, you don't want air bubbles, but they're not the problem movies make them out to be. You would need more air than even a full syringe to cause problems, it would just diffuse in your blood.
