The 3 fingers to the sky is the district 12’s salute. The fact that Rues’ district saluted back was huge because they felt united outside of their district. It was Katniss way of honoring Rue and show she will not let the capital ignore this death.

The books explain the he was never really in an alliance with careers, he was trying to protect her all along. And when she saw him, after the tracker jacket attack, he was telling her to run. The books also explain her concern about turning on someone from her own district so, it's very unlikely she would've tried the actually kill Peeta unless he actually attacked her. Finish the series though, it's great!

As someone who took archery, getting comfortable with a bow and then switching to a completely different one and getting a bullseye second try is incredible. the bow katniss had at home was a hand made one or a hand-me down from her father, either way, it was old and worn and had its nuances that katniss grew accustomed to. with the capitols bow it’s made from different material most likely machine made, different draw strength different aim accuracy, same with the arrows. No wonder she missed her first shot. but her making a decent second shot right after and then sniping the apple after that, is legendary!

Effie (the woman with the wigs played by Elizabeth Banks) stays with them throughout the process because it's her job. She is the "escort" for District 12. I'm not quite sure what the job involves but I think it is making sure the reaping isn't rigged and preparing them for interviews and such. There is a bit in the book where she tries to teach Katniss to walk in high heels (because she never had to in District 12) for the cameras and Katniss is bad at it, and is relieved when Cinna gets her easier shoes to manage, still fancy but a lower heel. Katniss' father (and Gale's father as well) died in a mine collapse. That's why both of them had to start hunting for food. The three finger salute is a show of respect and how people in District 12 say goodbye at funerals. Peeta does have an infection. Cato stabbed him with the sword after he helped Katniss escape (when she was high after the wasps). He's been bleeding out for several days and infection has set in. In the book she does try to use the burn cream but it doesn't do much except drain some of the pus (which I am glad was removed from the film because pus is gross. I'd rather see blood.) In the book they end up having to amputate the leg anyway when he gets back to the Capitol for actual medical attention. (He tried to rip the wound open again to intentionally kill himself after they announce only one of them can win.) I just reread the book so I am full of useless information today. Hope you do "Catching Fire."

Thank you for sharing. Peeta was truly a caring person, but I don't get why Cato just stabbed him. After finding Katniss, why didn't they just take Peeta out of the game. I haven't read the original trilogy, but I did read the prequel. I did enjoy the first 2 parts to learn the origin of the Hunger Games, but I still thought it was an odd choice to focus the story on Snow. I would have much rather have a movie focusing on the origin of Haymitch than Snow. Heck, I would even take the origin of anyone else than Snow. What did you think of 'The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes?' Surprisingly, I did enjoy the movie. I would even rank it higher than the Mockingjay movies.

The thing you have to understand about Katniss is that she lived her life in CONSTANT TERROR. She never wanted to marry for have kids because of the Games. So she closed herself off from almost everyone. She is very emotionally unintelligent. She doesn't realise what her feelings for Peeta really are. She loved Gale like a brother but isn't able to explain that to him, so Gale thinks she might return his feelings. But he's wrong. And cause of the pressure they're under Katniss doesn't have time to express it or explain or even consider. She only knows how to express comfort in kisses. It's very clear to the reader who she loves, and it's Peeta. Peeta is precious to her in ways she can't explain out loud, but in the book she thinks of him as The Boy With The Bread, the one who saved her, her sister and her mother's life. He gave her hope in her darkest time. She loves him like no one else. Please react to the other films, the next one Catching Fire is my fave, it's almost exactly like the book.

Yeah she would have for sure left his ass there. It had a lot to do with her not wanting to disgrace herself in the eyes of her district. Although I’m a firm believer that she definitely had a crush on Peeta, she obviously spent a good deal of time paying attention to him prior to the games. Also in the cave when Peeta tells her that his crush on her started when they were like five, she thought about how she felt “deliriously happy” while Peeta had recounted the story, but then got confused thinking this was all an act. Anyways went off on a tangent, but 100% Peeta would have been left where he was if it wasn’t for that announcement.

Katniss and Gale were just friends lol so Katniss is not cheating on him. They probably did like each other but never expressed it before she ended up in the Games. Even if they were together, kissing Peeta to survive was a solid plan and it obviously worked 😅 but Peeta is such a good guy...kind, smart, devoted, good with people, selfless. The fact he put himself in the Career pack to be able to assist and protect her 🥺❤️ he is so lucky he made it with such a risky strategy. Someone else not as convincing or good with people would have been found out instantly (probably helps that the tributes for 1 and 2 were so arrogant and quite careless) I dont think Katniss would have killed Peeta intentionally if they were the final 2 tributes. She feels gratitude for him saving her life with the bread. As long as she confirmed he joined the Careers to help her, she would not attack first. And obv, Peeta would not kill her. He was ready and volunteered for Katniss to kill him so she could go home. He didnt expect to go home. I think if they had not come across the berries, the Gamemakers would have found a way to force one of them to die if they would not kill each other

at 50:58 when cato says "i'm dead anyway, i always was right? i didn't know that till now" hes basically saying how he was born in a career district (district 2) so he was born and raised into thinking that being in the hunger games and killing people is an honor. when clove (the knife girl) dies is when he really realizes that everything he was taught to think was a lie. thats why he says "i didn't know that till now" clove's death was more emotionally impactful to cato because in the books they loved each other i think, whether it was platonically or romantically. in the books when her head is smashed by thresh, she dies slowly, and cato holds her body and begs her to stay with him. cato later goes after thresh, not only because thresh has cato's backpack, but also as revenge for killing clove (again, this only happens in the book, whereas in the movies thresh was killed by the mutts, although its possible that cato and thresh fought as well, they just didn't show it on camera, which could explain why cato was bloodied up during the last scene with katniss, peeta, and cato fighting on the cornucopia)

I watch reactions to see if people get how vital Peeta was to Katniss’s survival because the problem with these movies is in order to sell the love triangle they upgraded Gale and downplayed Peeta. Peeta had rooted in her heart with that act of kindness at age 11 and Katniss who had kept track of him and watched him did catch feelings during the games. His reaping did upset her and added to the misfortune of that day. The story is mostly told in her head and Katniss is an unreliable narrator who is trying to convince the reader she is not a good person and that she isn’t in love with Peeta. The star crossed lover’s angle was not the creation of the 16 year old boy. It was the adult advisor who observed the connection and energy between Peeta and Katniss. Cinna told them to hold hands in the chariot, made sure their were recognizable and dressed them in coordinated outfits and Haymitch advised them to stick together at all times and be amiable together. When Peeta asked to be coached alone I believe this is when Peeta was brought into the strategy and advised on how to bring in home. Katniss is reportedly said to be a bad actress and would not have gone along willing so she was not told about the strategy. When you go into the next film please keep in mind Peeta is an amputee who lost his leg to the mutts at the end of the first game . A sampling of Katniss thoughts on Peeta in the Hunger Games. **To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed. ***This is the first kiss where I actually feel stirring inside my chest. Warm and curious. This is the first kiss that makes me want another. ***And while I was talking, the idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realized how much I don't want him to die. And it's not about the sponsors. And it's not about what will happen when we get home. And it's not just that I don't want to be alone. It's him. I do not want to lose the boy with the bread.’ ***And then he gives me a smile that just seems so genuinely sweet with just the right touch of shyness that unexpected warmth rushes through me. ***One more time? For the audience?" he says. His voice isn't angry. It's hollow, which is worse. Already the boy with the bread is slipping away from me. I take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when I will finally have to let go. ***In stark contrast to two nights ago, when I felt Peeta was a million miles away, I'm struck by his immediacy now. As we settle in, he pulls my head down to use his arm as a pillow; the other rests protectively over me even when he goes to sleep. No one has held me like this in such a long time. Since my father died and I stopped trusting my mother, no one else's arms have made me feel this safe.

@scahearn627910 ай бұрын
@@JuanitoEsBonito Peeta was absolutely done dirty by the movies. I have read the books multiple times and can say that Peeta was stronger both mentally and physically than either Katniss or Gale. The way she describes Peeta and Gale it’s clear that Peeta is more physically imposing than Gale. Katniss often describes Peeta as steady, powerful and strong. Peeta also had more personality and charisma than either Katniss and Gale. Peeta excels in hand to hand combat, skilled with a knife and scored within career range. Katniss many times throughout the books acts more like a girlfriend toward Peeta than she ever does toward Gale. Then again I despise Gale for being a toxic pick me tool….he was an obstacle not a love interest. Team Peeta is the only team.
@scahearn627910 ай бұрын
@@JuanitoEsBonito There is so much missing from the movies, but Peeta’s diminished capacity in Katniss’s survival is the thing that is missing most. I get it was hard because a lot of the explanation of his importance is through her thoughts. But they could have kept things like his training him Katniss and Haymitch like careers for the Quarter Quell, lifting her away from the mutts in the Capital Tunnel making her climb, telling her to hold out the berries so everyone could see them, stepping between her and the peacekeepers to force the guns away from her in 11, leaving the let me go/I can’t exchange when he stops her from taking the or his ripping off the tourniquet to bleed out forcing her to be the victor. Doing that could have fixed his diminished capacity in her survival.

@hisdudeness832810 ай бұрын
Katniss acknowledged that FoxFace (the red haired girl that ate the poison berries) had the best chance of winning simply because she would have been able to outlive all the other tributes. Something that tends to get overlooked by the games is that you don’t actually have to kill anyone to win, you simply have to be the last survivor. In the books, there had been at least three confirmed victors that never killed anyone, they just outlived the other tributes. Another small thing that I think gets overlooked is that Cato and Clove (the knife throwing girl Thrash smashes into the wall) were both from district 2. So the double victor option didn’t just apply to Katniss and Peeta. The possibility of them BOTH being able to go home as victors likely caused Cato and Clove to get closer to each other. Nothing romantic, but there would have at least been a new sense of trust and comradery between them. When Thresh killed her, that likely broke Cato in knowing that he really would be alone even if he won. Hence why he acts the way he did at the end.

Generally a really nice reaction. Although almost all of it was fun to see, I do have one criticism. During the sequence when Rue dies, Ryan was laughing all the time while Leia (sorry if I misspelled your names) was barely holding in the tears. For me, this sequence is the most heartbreaking and emotional part of the movie, and having you laughing through it kind of took away all the emotion and impact in that scene. Of course this is your reaction and I cannot tell you what to do and not to do. I just wanted to say that for me it would be more emotionally impactful (especially since you had already seen the movie and knew what was coming) to try not to laugh so much when there are very emotional parts going forward. A couple of things that I noticed you talked about. I don't know if someone has already commented on these things, but if not, it might be helpful to understand: - There are 12 districts, each district is responsible for a specific part of production. District 1 is luxury items, 2 is mostly masonry and weaponry, 7 is lumber, 9 is livestock and so on. 11 where Rue is from is agriculture, and 12 is coal. District 12 is often considered the poorest of the districts. There are clear geographical divisions between the districts and as far as I know you are not allowed to travel between them. I even thing there is a no-mans-land in between each district. - "Careers" are tributes from districts 1, 2 and 4 and they go to special training camps during their childhoods to prepare them if they ever become tributes. They usually volunteer as tributes because in those districts participating in the games were seen as an honor. It was super illegal to train in advance but the capital turned a blind eye because of those districts' loyalty and also because having trained fighters made a "better show". - Your name is put into the reaping once when you are 12. Then it is put in again cumulatively until you're 18, meaning that if you have not been chosen before you're 18, your name will be entered on 7 different slips of paper. You can also add your name extra times. For each extra time, you get one year's worth of grain and oil for one person. You can do one extra per family member per year, meaning that if you are 3 people in your family you can have 4 entries when you are 12 (1 regular and 3 extra), 8 when you are 13 and so on. Katniss is 16 so she is entered for the 5:th time with a total of 20 entries. - The fire during the parade is not real, it's faked somehow. - The max score you can get in the private practice session is 12. No one has ever gotten a 12. So Katniss' 11 is tied for the highest someone has gotten. I don't know how many has ever gotten 11, but I know that it's very uncommon. I hope that this info clears at least some things up.

haymitch was the only victor fron 12, so every year he had to mentor and watch the tributes from 12 die. he was hurt and burnt out by the time katniss and peeta were reaped, having done it for 25 years. i think i'd be a drunk too. the capitol inhabitants were all safe from being reaped. they were the pampered recipients of the harvests of each district that the workers starved and bled to provide for them. it was a really horrible, fascinating dystopia. kids weren't trained in most districts because there was no one to train them, and the citizens worked 6 days a week and most were undernourished and discouraged from learning how to fight in case of rebellion, unless it was clearly for the games only.

When your name is placed in the reaping bowl each year it stacks every year. You can also take tesserae for yourself and family for oil and grain. Most people in district 12 are on the edge of starvation, so poorer residents take more tesserae. Katniss is able to hunt to supplement her diet, but it's considered poaching, so it's illegal. The peacekeepers turn a blind eye because they also have access to fresh meat. No one in the districts is supposed to be armed because of the previous rebellion. Gale and Katniss are hunting partners and friends. She sees him as a friend. Peeta does have a crush on Katniss, but she thinks that he's using it as a strategy. He thinks that she actually likes him, but she's using the crush as a way to keep them alive. She does actually start having feelings for him, but she's really closed off to her emotions. Katniss was at the point of starvation after her father died in a mine explosion. She took care of her sister and mother, who was severely depressed, to keep them from being sent away from home to the orphanage (there was a lot of abusive behavior there). Peeta burned the bread on purpose when he saw her trying to find food in their trash. His mother hit him hard enough to leave a mark because he burnt the bread and they had to throw it out. Katniss was able to bring the food back to her family and was able to find plants to eat just after this, so she feels like she can't repay the debt she owes Peeta. He doesn't think she owes him anything, he just did it because he was trying to help her.

You ask about the "servants" in the suite of rooms they stayed in. Those aren't servants. Those are Avox being punished. These were free people in the districts who got caught doing something wrong, such as going outside the bounds of the fence or trying to avoid the games. They were taken prisoner, had their tongues cut out, and were made to serve the Capitol, some of them being forced to serve the Tributes during the Games. The threat of becoming an Avox is one of the ways the Capitol can control everyone and make them follow them rules,.
@elazybelleorr24729 ай бұрын
Katniss was of the mind, let them kill each other off then deal with it when she has too. You notice she only killed twice, once when her and Rue were attacked then at the end with kaito. She avoided everyone and only fought when she had too. If the announcement for two victors from the same district had never happened, katniss would have continued to avoid Peeta, and he would have died in that ravine from his leg wound. Also keep in mind if you watch the next films, ( because its not mentioned,) Katniss lost hearing in one of her ears from the explosion, and Peeta lost his leg. The medicine was only able to save him from the infection but his wound was too deep they had to amputate it. The reason I bring this up even though its not mentioned in the movie, is because they still portray Peeta the same as the books as if he had those injuries, so his character doesn't make as much sense without that context. Oh and as for Katniss and Gale, they were never dating, they're childhood friends. Gale loves Katniss but at this point in the films Katniss doesnt love anyone. Shes lived in fear her whole life and with the trauma of the games, and losing both her parents, ( her father in a mine explosion/collapse, and her mother to depression and disassociation,) shes already made the decision she doesn't want kids,and shes not mentally capable of thinking of either guy in any romantic way, she cares but survival is more important to her then relationships. That does slowly change though through the rest of the films. Also the three fingers to the sky is a sign of respect, like a tribute, it's usually done at funerals to pay respect, but them doing so for Katniss is a sign of solidarity. Like a reminder of her home and how they all are thinking of her. The districts not only are not able to communicate with each other, they also are pitted against each other through the games. Seeing the kids from another district brutally murder the children from your own district breeds resentment and hatred. Katniss being so affectionate and protective of Rue was a big deal, and district 11 holding they're fingers up in solidarity with district 12 was also huge and a result of Katniss singing for Rue and surrounding her with flowers, crying for her. That compassion as well as her defiance is what makes the districts want to fight for her.

I may have missed it in your reaction. Haymitch being a drunk; He won the hunger games when he was reaped to play at 16 years of age. He's the only living victor from district 12, therefore he is a mentor every year when it's held. He won the 50th season of the game. 24 years ago, thats 48 boys and girls he had to meet, mentor and then watch die in the arena. Im sure over the years there were people he knew, kids of people he grew up with that were repeaed to play over the years. The emotional pain of losing friendships over the years ... The kind of trauma he has had to go through over and over. Then theres some stuff that didnt make it into the movies. Without spoiling everything, first off, for being the 50th season, the game had a special preset rule of double the tributes. 2 boys and girls each from each district. So he had to outlast 41 people. Haymitch won his games by using a loop hole in the arena, a mechanic involving the barrier of the arena. A few weeks after he won, the President executed his Mother, GF and siblings, as punishment for his "act of defiance". This game took everything he had. Numbing himself with booze probably helps.

Katniss wouldn’t have gone to find him if they didn’t make the announcement. The whole reason she stayed away from him for so long was because she didn’t want an alliance because she didn’t want to get close to someone who could have potentially died (hence why she didn’t originally make an alliance w Rue either) nor did she want to kill someone she respected. At bare minimum Katniss always had respect for Peeta for saving her life with the bread & she felt she owed him a debt.

Think about haymitch this way, he went through 23 years of being a mentor after nearly dying in the games himself. And also, his family was killed because of a stunt he pulled. I'd say he's allowed to be a drunk jerk

Don’t have patience to read every comment to see if anyone mentions about Haymitch’s history. Haymitch was a part of what is called a Quarter Quell. You learn more about those in the next movie (which I am sure by right now you have seen so I am hopefully not giving spoilers.) The Quarter Quell is every 25 years. A twist is selected from a large pool of twists. The twists include things like the districts having to select the tributes to no food in the arena. Haymitch’s twist was that double the tributes were selected making the number of tributes 48 instead of 24. The method that Haymitch used to win was seen as a rebellious act so Snow had his whole family and girlfriend killed. Then since he is the only Victor of district 12 he is brought out every year to witness two children killed (because they are the only district not permitted much for preparation being forced to stay in squaller and the most hungry of all the districts. That is why he drinks so obsessively, to cope.

Idk if the movies ever touch on that, but the hand gesture is a way for them to pay respect to the dead. Which is why they originally all did it in the crowd when she volunteered, and why Katniss did it after making a grave for Rue. :)

To explain the name in the reaping system. Everyone at the age of 12 has to put their name in the lottery. Then their name is added again with each year that goes by. So by the last time that a child can be reaped at age 18, their name is in the lottery no less than 7 times. Your name can be added more times for additional food rations. The logic by capitol’s viewpoint is that the increased odds of being reaped (and should it happen) negate the extra food distribution to one individual. Gale’s name is in there so many times because he needed the extra food rations for his family.

To answer your question: It's VERY unlikely that Katniss would have k*lled Peeta. Don't forget they come from the same district...imagine she k*lled him, wins and has to go back and face her district who saw the whole thing. She also doesn't have the heart to k*ll in cold blood. Plus, she kinda liked him before the games, pity the movie didn't explain that a little. (P.S. Gale was never her boyfriend)

You know what I just realized?? That some people get surprised when the Capital revoked their plan of being 2 victors when it actually was very obvious and out there that they had planned to revoke it lol cuz they literally used the word “suspended”. That there only being 1 victor that it would be “suspended”. Which suspended means temporarily removal. So lol we really shouldn’t have been surprised at all cuz they told us right up front that it wasn’t going to last lmfao 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Can’t believe I missed that and I’ve seen this so many times now. 😅 So funny. Capital was upfront with us the whole time 😂

Peeta lost his leg as a result of his injuries in the games, but that is left out of the movie. Being an amputee has an impact on his abilities and how people view him later on.

So something you only see in the books is Haymidge (Katniss Mentor) was part of the 50th Hunger Games and won by showing up the Capitol by using their own force field to win against his final opponent. Haymidge would come to regret this as the Capitol took his entire family and killed them as retribution. So the reason why Haymidge is an alcoholic is because he not only had to kill in the Hunger games, he lost his entire family by winning, and he's had to mentor 48 other Tributes whom have died in the Hunger Games. Interesting enough the next Prequel Film coming out will be about Haymidge and his Hunger Games so this will be tragic on a whole other level.

If they had not made the first announcement, she never would have gone looking for him, and he would have stayed in the rocks in disguise until he died from his infection, or dehydration, or one if the others found him and killed him. So Katness wouldn't have had to kill him.

If it was only them left, without the rule change, she would have tried to kill him. She made a promise to her sister, and their is a matter of self preservation. Aside from that Peeta would have fake fought her, and threw himself in the pathof danger. If she had a knife, he would have run into the knife, because he already loved her. For Katniss, there is no guarantee that her sister is being fully cared for without her being home.

13:33 when you win the games you become a mentor to the upcoming tributes and live in victors village in your district 15:04 they’re an “avox”, if my memory serves me right if someone was a rebel or traitor and was caught by a peacekeeper they will be sent to the capital, get their tongue cut out making them mute and live a life of a capital slave.
@stefaniefreeman75419 ай бұрын
I think if it would have come down to Rue and Katniss final 2 no way to "outsmart the capitol" Katniss would have sacrificed herself and let Rue go home because she reminds her of her sister. She would take peace in knowing Gale promised to take care of her family as that is her biggest fear about leaving them. Its also why she would not forgive Gale if he had also volunteered (a question alot of reaction videos ask why he didn't ) in order to help each other in the games. I think if it had come down to Peeta and her without the rule change they would not have bonded the same way and as she says before the games I cant afford to think that way I have to think of my sister and she would have done what she had to but it prob would have destroyed her to do it.

To make it simple as simple as possible, every year you age (12-18), your name is put in an additional time (every 18 year-old has their name in at least 6 times). However, there is a program where for a year’s worth of food an oil for one person, you can add your name in one additional time, these additional times are cumulative year after year (it’s also really not enough food but I digress). Gale has 4 brothers and a mother and is the oldest, and therefore he has put his name in 6 additional times every year for the food/oil for his entire family. It adds a level of fucked up that essentially, the more poor you are, the more likely you are to be chosen. It also puts into perspective how unlikely it was for Prim to be chosen, since most of the older children in district 12 likely participate in the program every year and have their name in many times.

It's basically illegal to train the children before the Games. District One, Two, and Four unofficially train the kids and, since this makes a good show in the arena, the Capitol turns a blind eye.

15:38 unfortunately training before possibly being picked is illegal. Tho the career tributes from district 1 and 2 train themselves its likely the capital turns a blind eye due to the spectacle of them and the fact they are higher class.
