Water was delivered in oil barrels that hadn't been properly cleaned after containing oil. It was contaminated and undrinkable. That's why there was such a severe shortage of water for the Marines.

I like the look Dr. Sledge gives Sid, when he tells Mrs. Sledge, what she "needs" to hear!!

My father was a Marine from 1936 to 1940, then at Pearl Harbor as a sailor in the USN, and the the Navy sent him to Guadalcanal. I wish he had lived long enough for us to watch this series and talk about it.

Hope you feel better soon. I always enjoy your reactions because your emotions are so genuine. These men went through hell, and your empathy for their plight really comes through. Looking forward to the next one, Amy.

Yours is one of the best reactions to this series. Marines that fought in that Battle and the Battle for Okinawa said, "There was nothing like Pelelieu." We should honor their sacrifice by securing the Constitution as the primary framework for our government and the laws passed and enforced. Selective enforcement has no place in our system of government. Let's honor these courageous men that have up so much.

Here's some useless info. My dad was a marine on saipan and tinian, myself, two brothers snd my sister all served in the Air Force. My dad was in the 18th and i was in the 18th TRS in the air force. His nickname in the marunes was bulldog Davis and everyone called me mad dog Davis.

They tried to quite the panicked marine but nothing worked. They hit him with the shovel to knock him out. The NCIS episode, Call of Silence Season 2 episode 7, is about a panicked Marine on Iwo Jima who was hit on the head and killed to keep him quiet. I'll bet the episode was taken from this event.

Cigarettes were beneficial to soldiers in that those that smoked were helped in dealing with stress and those that didn't smoke used cigarettes as barter in the countries they occupied. Even after the war cigarettes were used as money.

You are great, appreciate your reactions. Upcoming episodes will get even tougher if you can be ready for that but there will also be some more touching romantic interludes.

Pa-LAY-loo. Second syllable is the emphasis. It's the same for all austronesian languages.
