You had a similar reaction as a lot of fans to Storm. In the comics, she’s not only one of the most powerful mutants in the world and a natural leader, but she’s deadly in hand to hand combat. And fun fact, she was married to T’challa, the Black Panther.

I think they actually could have used one more character with hand to hand skill in the movies and she would have been the best choice for it in my personal opinion.

This was the first superhero movie I ever saw and Magneto became my favourite villain. His tragic backstory makes you sympathise with him and you understand why he feels that mutants will never be accepted. He also has many opportunities to kill the X Men in this film but he doesn't because he sees himself as fighting for people like them. What he really wants is for them to see his point of view and join him.

And then...you got it lol too funny

Storm is from Africa (by way of Cairo, Egypt). her name is Ororo Munroe. she was orphaned at a very young age when her mother died in a building collapse. they were trapped in the rubble for days causing Storm to be afflicted with a lifetime of terrifying claustrophobia. it is her weakness. she began her life as a street pickpocket in the streets of Cairo, Egypt where Professor Xavier found her. i am possibly skipping over a lot of her early years because (i am sure) there has been more information revealed and many retcons made in recent years. she was introduced to the X-Men comics in 1975.

I'm glad you spoke more about the mutant registration act here because although it may be important to know who your citizens are, there are always those that seek to abuse this knowledge to oppress those they deem inferior or a threat or are just simply different. If something like this can be abused so easily, we must think further whether it is appropriate or not. Wrong race - you're added to a list, wrong religion, wrong sexuality, wrong political affiliation, wrong socio-economic background - on a list etc. The tattoo Magneto has on his arm from his time in a Nazi concentration camp not only has it's place in real life history but is also used here to draw similarities with the sentiment behind the mutant registration act. Magneto sees this as a warning that history is about to repeat itself and decides he and his kind will not be victim to it ever again. I live in London and we are the second most cctv'd city in the world. Although the argument is made that it helps to deter and identify crime, there are huge concerns about not only how it could be abused by a future rogue government or ruling power, but there is evidence it is currently being abused to pick on certain demographics disproportionately by those in power. We've seen how China has abused cctv and facial recognition software to erode freedoms and control it's citizens lives and stay in power and we realise that we are always just one bad election away from similar circumstances. Once we relinquish this data, it's not so easy to go back if it goes terribly wrong.

Yeah, I liked Storm the best from this movie, but after getting to know her in the comics, I am so mad at what they did to her character in the movies. She has so much potential to be a powerful and empathetic leader and the best I can say the movies do is show glimpses of that.

Yes and I understand you only have so much time with each character but I can't understand why they weakened her powers so much. There is also the issue with Halle Berry's accent not being the same from movie to movie but I was much more disappointed with the powers. Also why do they keep putting Toad in these movies no one even likes Toad.

Halle Berry who played Storm actually insisted that they give her character more lines and things to do in the story after the second movie. She's a great drama actress and she was ready to leave because she didn't feel she was being challenged enough. ALSO Storm is a great character and Halle wasn't about the portrayal of her either. So as a big Storm fangirl myself, I appreciate Halle for standing up for that. Great reaction. I cackled so much when you had the Gandalf AHA moment. I didn't even realise that you didn't recognise him. I thought you were just flowing with it. 🤣

In the comics storm is far more powerful something the movies never explored she is a tribal princess from Kenya and married to the black panther. Fans of storm are always disappointed with the way Hollywood depicts her. Magneto is the father of the scarlet witch but the MCU separated all this and simplified it. X men is an allegory of the civil rights movement of the 60s

I've been reading X-Men comics since I was 15. This was a great beginning to what Marvel made superhero movies now. Unfortunately Marvel didn't own the movie rights to this at the time and 20th Century Fox didn't have complete confidence in the "team" formula used in comics, made popular by Marvel in the movies. So, just a warning, the rest of these movies will rely heavily on the Wolverine character, (which I love! Don't get me wrong), and turn most of the other X-Men into very two-dimensional background actors.

Fun fact.. Storm is actually supposed to be from Africa. She's from Kenya. She and t'challa the Black Panther dated and had a child according to the comic books. They worshiped her as a God in Africa at some point and called her the weather witch. She is much more powerful in the comic book then they portray her in the movie. In the comic book she actually has the ability to control weather in outer space and on any planet. And she's an excellent fighter and an expert in hand-to-hand combat in the comic books as well. She's considered a Omega Level mutant which means she is at the very top of the food chain when it comes to superheroes and mutants with powers. She is on the level of a Magneto and and Professor X AKA Charles Xavier. I was insulted in the way they dumbed down her character in that first movie, and the wack lines they gave her. If you watch the animated version of storm on the TV shows, they make her much more like she is in the comic book. She is fierce and demands respect and attention. I like Halle Berry but her personality and her betrayal of storm was horrible and the lines they gave her made it even worse. When you think of storm, you should think of someone like the model Iman and how she carries herself. Also, the way Iman articulates her thoughts and demands attention when she's in the presence of anyone. Halle Berry is just not the right actor for that role. I don't even believe the new actress they have playing Storm does her justice either. They really should get a fierce African actress to play that role. Preferably from Kenya but I think any good African actress can play storm. Halle Berry is just wayyyy too soft for that role.

I never thought you'd do a movie like X-Men before now. I'm glad. I myself have been a fan of X-Men since I was 3 years old. I used to replay the 90s animated series over and over again because I was absolutely obsessed. This franchise if why I went to school for animation and film. That all being said, this movie was such a let down for me. I loved it the first time I watched it just because I loved the idea of my favorite superheroes getting a live action movie. But goodness gracious watching it through the second time was all it took for the magic of the first time to fade. I couldn't believe they made this about Wolverine when they have both Storm and Jean on the team! Both are infinitely more complicated and more interesting than Wolverine. Sadly, none of the live actions movies ever got the X-Men right. Maybe someday soon. Fingers crossed!

If I didn't dye my hair, there'd be a resemblance between Rouge at the end of this movie and I. My great-grandfather on my mum's side was a blue-eyed blonde from Finland, my great-grandmother, was Russian of Mongolian and Chinese decent. My hair started out as an infant with strawberry honey blonde hair, which got darker and redder until my mid teens. When I was almost 14, my mum compared my hair to a braid my grandma had cut off in her 30s. At that stage, I had her hair colour. A couple of years later, it had changed again to chestnut that turned bright red in the sun. We found out that my grandpa on dad's side had that colour hair. Back to my story in my 30s, I developed a grey streak like Rouge's. That also came from my dad's side. My dad's sister had dark hair, which developed a grey patch in the middle of her head. She liked it, so she decided to keep it. Personally, I get my hair dyed chestnut with red highlights. As close to natural as I can get.

For the sake of the movies they left out many characters, changed timelines and several character relationships. For example, Bobby aka Iceman was actually one of the original X-Men with Scott and Jean. Wolverine and Storm joined the team at the same time years later. There were two other X-Men in that original squad who will be shown in future movies. As for Rogue in addition to her ability to steal powers and memories, she is superhumanly strong, invulnerable and can fly. The secondary powers she accidentally stole permanently from Carole Danvers who is Captain Marvel in the MCU. Also Mystique and her wife Destiny (who has never been shown) were Rogue’s foster parents. On several occasions, she and foster parents fought against the X-Men. Due to permanently stealing Carole Danver’s memories and powers, Rogues had a lot of psychological issues and went to Professor Xavier for help. He promised to help her as long as she joined the X-Men team. Initially she was not trusted by the rest of the squad. But on several occasions, Rogue came in clutch to save the day and consequently earned the team’s respect.

11:46, in this world when a mutant’s abilities manifest they will either be given or pick a name that represents their powers. Marie calls herself rogue because she steals other people powers and abilities. Logan was called Wolverine because he was small, hairy and scrappy like a wolverine. Hugh Jackman the actor portraying Wolverine is actually much taller than the comic book version of the character. In the comics, Wolverine is only like 5 foot 5. But with his unbreakable bones, enhanced healing abilities and fighting skills, he is one of the most deadly people in the world.

I love the X-MEN comics, and most of the movies, they really cut out a lot of characterization, but it happens. It ends up being about Wolverine, Rogue and Magneto, which is fine, but they all have fantastic stories. Wolverine is named after the animal, the wolverine. They're known for being very strong and ferocious for their size, which fits him perfectly, because in the comics, he's quite short. A fun side note, fought in WW2 alongside Captain America, but he doesn't remember it.

And the only X-Men characters that don't turn into dust at the end of infinity War are Wolverine and Storm. Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Anna Paquin and Kelsey grammar are the best one and only definitive versions of their X-Men characters. 16:14 As someone said I don’t like how many of the supporting characters like Storm and Cyclops were portrayed in these movies. This is especially true for Cyclops. Scott is the first X-Men and their undisputed leader for many years before the roster got so big they split the team in two. Storm took lead on the second team. Scott Summers is to mutants what Steve Rogers is to superheroes. I had hoped that when the MCU reboots the X-Men they would show Scott in a better light. But I’ve heard Disney/Marvel has a different idea in the works 😢

Xmen needs a reboot. The avengers have battled thanos. They've been to space. The xmen have a much more interesting story. And now that studios are afraid to tell superhero stories, the need to tell it properly.

The first 2 are really good. 3... mishandled some of X-Men's best storylines 😅 I think they tried to cram a few too many characters in too quickly but that's to be expected with a team movie of this type. I do wish the costumes were a bit more colorful, though having a unified look of black leather is more cohesive than the free-for-all of the comics costumes 😅

Mistique is played by Rebecca Romijn Stamos, and they should have never changed the actress in future films. She is the best Mistique.

You wouldn't know this today but from the 1980s to the 2000s The X-Men were far more well known and popular compared to The Avengers. From the 1980s New Mutant comics to the amazing 1990s X-Men: Animated Series and of course the 2000s X-Men films that brought these characters into the greater mainstream audience. Even in the late 1990s when Marvel was selling off there movie rights, no one wanted the rights to characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Antman etc. They were seen as B/C list Superhero's compare to A list hero's like Spider-Man, Hulk, The X-Men etc. It wasn't until 2008's Iron Man followed by The Avengers that these characters become household names and we saw The Avengers becoming more popular than The X-Men for the first time. Another aspect that made these X-Men films really maintain was the fact the producers and studio heads tired their hardest to make these films attractive to the eyes of the maintain audience. So the comic book aspects were toned down for example the iconic colourful and individual unique outfits worn by each member of the X-Men were replaced for matching leather black suits. At the time they thought that having more comic accurate designs would've turned alot of people away from the film. Wasn't until Spider-Man (2002) that studios would embrace the more colourful and unique comic designs something we see across the MCU as well. It's wild that it took us 24 years to see Hugh Jackman in Wolverine's iconic outfit, showcased in pictures for Deadpool 3 releasing this year hopefully. Would be like Steve Rogers wearing a casual militant outfit throughout the MCU only to wear his iconic Captain America outfit in Infinity War.

I grew up with the X-Men comic books and some TV appearances in the 80s, and they definitely did Storm wrong! And Rogue. These two were my favorites from the comics. I always imagined Grace Jones as Storm, elegant yet strong. Halle Barry was OK, but she could only do so much with what was given to her.

@SCENE I think you missed a key point in the introduction. The intro scene shows us Magneto in a Nazi concentration camp. When they were in power they merely wanted "lists" of their citizens, no harm in that right? Then, once they knew who the jews and gays were, they made them wear symbols on their clothes (yellow stars and pink triangles). No harm, right? THEN, they rounded up the marked people and threw them in concenttration camps where they were tortured, abused, experiemented on and killed, in the millions. Then, we see the US congress only wanting "lists" of mutants. The parallel is obvious.

I disagree - I clearly said that it could be for good and for evil but it is imperative for the government to have knowledge of them. After Professor X has a list of mutants and he has called them to assist in the protection of the US - why is the government different? A bad government will misuse the knowledge but a good one would not. Prof X is not using it for evil. He could be the ambassador for them - the link between the mutants and the govt.

@@ScenecrlyK.S.O.Thank you for responding! The issue isn't what prof X knows, it's gvmt knows. The issue is that gvmts change over time. What's good today can be evil tomorrow. The more info and power a gvmt has, the more it can abuse that power, and it will, given time. For example here in the US our national census, which is supposed to only collect basic data about the people here, also used to collect ethnicity. Back in the day corrupt officials used that data to find all those of Japanese descent, stole all their wealth and put them in concentration camps. Knowing SOME things about your people is fine, but certain info in the hands of gvmt WILL be abused. That is my earnest opinion.

While I can appreciate your view on having a list of mutants, in an ideal world that would be great where you could call one of them up to heal someone or help out with a hostage situation/war etc. Unfortunately however it's human nature to fear the unknown. As soon as one mutant committed a crime via whatever power then more than likely the list would be used to round them all up and detain them. (obviously difficult due to their various powers but it would be attempted by governments around the world) Everyone knows what happened to the Jews during WWII, but a lot of people either don't know or forget that those of Japanese heritage living in America were put into camps (thankfully not executed) too "just in case" - and those were normal people without superpowers.

1st & foremost, I'm very happy you're watching this & potentially the rest of these X-Men films. Tho these films are awesome by themselves, they fall short for fans. 2nd, there're comic book fans, Animated series fans, & those who are fan of both. I've never read a comic book in my life. X-Men: the Animated Series is my fav superhuman hero show. You say the 1st patreon tier gets an animation reaction? Well either this month or in February, I'm going to request you watch the 1st episode of this show bc I need you to glimpse what most of us who were kids in the 90's expected these films to look like. 3rd, I'm glad you have no prior knowledge of Storm & was not impressed by her in this film. Storm, Jean, & Rogue are my fav X-Men. To see them portrayed like this hurt my soul. Ever since Thor, I've been counting the days where the MCU would redo the X-Men on a Marvel Cinematic Universe level. What they've done w/Thor & Captain Marvel proves they can do it! One thing that these films did correctly in respect to the comics and the animated series is it didn't shy away from the hidden meanings of racism, genocide, homophobia, segregation, etc.

Hi Hun, thank you for your comment and inquiry. The first tier gets to watch my reactions to animation/cartoons. The 4th tier gives you the request benefit. As for Storm, I think she was very pretty - I just didn't see her do much in the fight scenes. Everyone really got to shine - battle wise but not her.
