Season 4 marks the start of things about to get real. Real deep, real heavy, real dark.

"A Don doesn't wear shorts." - This was something that was told to James Gandolfini by a real life mob boss after he called James at his home at some ridiculous hour in the morning to praise the show. Unnerving for James, thrilling for David Chase.

Dude, I’m a huge fan of the Sopranos and grew up in those towns and areas the show was filmed. I think it’s the best series ever. I really liked your reaction to the episodes. It reminded me when I watched the show at the time it aired. And it does feel almost like a reality show. They nailed the personalities and mannerisms of the Italians in that area, like me. I don’t mean the mobster crimes, I mean just the way they are with friends and family and how they speak dealing with issues. The show is actually very funny at times as you see. I was lucky enough to attend a filming of a scene. It was the White Caps episode. Tony banging on Irina’s door only to talk with Svetlana. I was there for about 4 hours. There was a group of the neighbors on that street and we all get to meet Gandolfini when they were finally done. It was the best celebrity meet, I ever had. I have a pic but there’s no way to post it here. I don’t think. Anyway, keep up the good work. It only gets better and better. You’re my fav reaction show! Keep up the good work!

First post-9/11 episode of the show, and you can feel it. The rear-view-mirror shot of the towers from the intro is gone. Also of note, Fairuza Balk was the original actress playing the agent getting friendly with Adriana. Her original scenes from the season 3 finale were only aired once, and then when the DVDs came out they reshot all her scenes with the new actress who took over the role.

Season 4... a personal favorite of mine. This is the point of the show where many fans and critics agree that darkness takes over. Supposedly, the show becomes darker in both tone and aesthetics... like it actually looks darker... something to do with it being post-9/11. I always felt the moment Livia died is when the show got darker. (S3E3) Anyway, love Tony's walk down the driveway as Time Zone's "World Destruction" blasts.

The 1990s through 9/10/01 were a kind of charmed period in the life of the United States. Cold War over, roaring economy, no superpower competitors in foreign policy…it felt like the US had everything going its way. 9/11 brought the US back down to earth after that glorious era of seeming to float above everything, and that was reflected in art of the post 9/11 period, in film, literature, music…and definitely in this season of the Sopranos (and each succeeding season). In this episode, you see something of the economic shocks of that era; money started to get tight just when Americans had gotten accustomed to the roaring 90s economy. Carmella: “‘Let me tell you something…or you can watch the effing news…everything comes to an end.”

The rat Ray Curto and New York boss Carmine do look similar, so don't blame yourself for getting them mixed a bit. Carmine not standing up was meant to show his higher status compared to Tony.

You should be able to tell by now the cop did kill Christopher’s dad. Tony wasn’t lying about that. You can tell by what the cop said just before he was executed.. “I’m sorry!! I’m sorry!!” Whenever anyone is executed you can tell if they are guilty of what they’re being accused of by what they say in the last moments of their life. If they go thru some stages of grief (denial, bargaining, acceptance, etc) they are guilty. If they are genuinely surprised & not guilty they won’t think of trying to lie & haggle their way out of their execution (like Jimmy’s reaction). But this cop basically tried saying the same stuff as Pussy & Mikey & the kid who shot Chrissy did at their execution.
@dedo732610 ай бұрын
It’s been awhile since I’ve watched the many saints of Newark but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a cop that killed him right? I hope he doesn’t see this because I don’t wanna spoil anythig and I don’t think I am since I can’t even remember that awful movie

@@prettymuchbangtan The movie MSON isn’t a source of truth. It had many script issues with consistency to the Sopranos. Chase admits he made a terrible mistake not reviewing the Sopranos before he wrote the MSON. That’s why the movie flopped. Too much of it didn’t make sense when you compared storylines. Even if the cop wasn’t the trigger man he damn sure had something to do with it. Why else would he scream “I’m sorry!!” just before he was killed?? Why would he go thru the same word games as Pussy did (denial, bargaining, acceptance)?? As did the Mathew kid who shot Chrissy. Btw... when Mathew screamed “mommy!!” just before Tony & Pussy executed him... that was him admitting guilt & accepting his fate. Just another way of saying “I’m sorry!!”.
@gregsgoogle294710 ай бұрын
@@dedo7326 The only new thing the movie tells us is that Jr ordered the hit on Chrissy’s dad but it doesn’t show who the shooter is. From this it’s safe to assume Tony probably didn’t know all the real details of Dicky’s murder since Tony only got Juniors version of how it happened. Since Jr ordered it he almost certainly never told anyone truthfully what happened. Whether the cop was the actual trigger man or not is impossible to know but the cop certainly had something to do with it. Why else would he scream “I’m sorry!!” seconds before his execution??

Go back and watch the episodes leading up to Jackie being murdered. Tony 100% wanted Jackie to have a pass. It was discussed between Ralph and Tony and Tony was happy that Ralph said he wanted to give him a pass. When Ralph had said he wanted to give Jackie a pass he was hoping Tony wouldn’t allow it. Tony wasn’t happy with Jackie but he really was trying to look out for him because Jackie was the son of his dead best friend. Ralph is so much worse then Tony. Pure evil.
@albstare10 ай бұрын
This isn't really true. That whole conversation is brilliant mafia doublespeak but if you unpack it Tony pretty clearly wants Ralph to not give him a pass, which is why he says stuff like that he made Ralph captain because he knew Ralph could make "the tough decisions." I agree that Ralph is generally a lot worse than Tony though, just not in this case.
@gwenjackson85838 ай бұрын
@@albstareI agree. Tony didn’t want him to give Jackie Jr a pass…made obvious by him reminding him Ralphie about how people will say things behind his back if he let Jackie off. Tony just didn’t want to be the one who made the ultimate decision to kill him so he skillfully put it on Ralphie.
