@@wst8340 Define "good". The railways in the US are in shocking condition. I've seen railway lines in Australia that were abandoned for a decade or more in better condition than that and that's compared to what it looked like at the very start of the video. Clearly there is no proper regulation of perways in the US as anything goes.
@DansModelBench Жыл бұрын
@@thess344 And reballasting and new sleepers and the drainage redone and the line cleared of obstructions. Basically it could do with being completely rebuilt. That said, the condition of some of the lines over there where its a hit or miss if the train stays on the track, I can see why the locals thinks this worn out line is first rate. Just keep running the trains slower and slower until the big derailment and then shutdown the business, seems a viable business model over there.

Just for the record a train is defined as a locomotive with or without cars in every railroad rulebook in North America. This group is doing a great job in preserving the line for rail use. The rebuilt segment to Newport station will have a rail with trail setup so as to keep train access to Newport. As mentioned in other comments the traffic is horrendous in this area during the season. If more of us email/contact RIDOT maybe there would be some money spent to make this a passenger shuttle line on the Island.

So, what’s the difference between a train and a locomotive? It isn’t just a matter of choice of words, although you’ll often find the two used interchangeably. Put simply; a locomotive is what provides power to allow the train to move. If a locomotive is pulling cargo hoppers or passenger cars, it then becomes a train. So, the next time you’re out trainspotting, or you hear someone say “look at that train,” when it’s just a locomotive not pulling (or pushing) anything, you’ll easily be able to explain the difference!

Every piece of track doesn't have to look like the Northeast Corridor to be safe for operation. It all depends on the speed and size of the train as well as the tie and rail condition. Appearance is not the only determining factor for tie condition nor for rail. Brush is an issue but I bet the authorities will squeak about spraying herbicides to control it.
