Considering the price difference between the Holga and the Bronica the little plastic camera stands up quite well. The prints from the Holga also have a little more character and old school charm (IMHO). Another inspiring vlog, thanks. 👍

Happy new year! Yes, the weather. I'm in Finland and we have it either dark, cold or rainy/snowy for about 4 months a year. At least got to shoot some nice winter pictures in Christmas when there were a couple of sunny days. The temperature was some -15 C (in the midwinter, if it's sunny/clear it tends to be cold also) so after taking your gloves off you have to work fast to get the picture before your hands freeze. Still a couple of months to the spring but we're getting there. At least the days are now getting longer, though it's still dark from 5 pm to 8 am.

The Holga can be great fun. I bought one when my gear in the car was stolen. The next holidays, my gear was stolen in the hotel room. I bought a Lubitel. Same price range, a bit less simple, but the sharpness and tonal range! A Holga viewer is not very accurate, so I used the “sports” holes of the Lubitel and did the cropping later.

Again, a very good presentation! It seems to me that Holga pictures are a contemporary continuation of the direction in photography called "pictorialism" - not the sharpness of the photo, but the atmosphere are the main advantage of the image, which is also a consequence of the optical imperfection of the lens used. I don't have a Holga camera so I find it in my photos taken with the old Box Tengor 54/2 from 1934 with the achromat lens and the Kodak No2 Folding Autographic Brownie (from 1924-1926) with a simple anastigmat lens, and with similar ones. I found your channel a while ago when I was researching the Holga before I bought one. I am quite new to film photography and really enjoy your vids, so thanks for doing what you do. I love the IoW and recognise a fair few of the places as I have been there several times for holidays (I had an uncle with a house in Bembridge). I haven't got the film developed yet, but I got out on Boxing day to Folkstone and got some shots of the crazies going for a late morning fancy dress dip in the sea. It was on my most recent purchase... The Sprocket Rocket... I'm not set up for home developing yet so have to go via a lab, but am hoping for good results. I'm a hobbyist, so just getting out, rain or shine, is such a good feeling and so good for getting out of work mode and relaxing the mind. If you have made it this far, apologies for the long post, I just wanted to say thanks for this channel really, and I got a bit carried away (wifey is watching crap on tele).

But the 35mm film Delta 100 is because of the drak grey base very difficult to print . The 120 film Delta 100 has a clear base . I lived in Seattle for twenty years. it's got a reputation for having a climate like southern England (i.e. gloomy, damp, and chill). I found I needed to always have a camera with me, for those moments when the sun peeked out, and if I could, carry two, one loaded with B&W and the other with color (because sometimes, color likes gloomy weather better than B&W). The thing with Seattle is it hardly ever rains really hard, it just drizzles for hours and hours. Now I'm in North Carolina, we get almost the same inches of rain in a year, but most of it in the form of genuine downpours -- inch an hour or harder. Here, I *really* don't want to go out and shoot in the rain -- but I keep up the habit of carrying a camera. Old mechanical cameras like the ones I prefer won't mind a few drops collected going from the house to the car.

So most of my produce is boring ramdon stuff but I have lots of fun on the whole process. The wander around, and visualising, looking thru the viewfinder and framing, taking the photo if I like what I see, and then work on the results. So definitely the whole process gives as much joy if not more than getting that amazing shoot. Definitely Roger's aptitute is an inspiration for us :)

Go for black or go for white? I left the room without any window, so darkness will be there quite naturally. Cheers, Mario!
@ShootFilmLikeaBoss3 жыл бұрын
Well, I went for black and white walls Mario (and one side black and Orange). Only because you spend so much time under a red light it's nice to turn the lights on and see light walls. Many say black walls keep reflection down but it's been fine. Or maybe a light grey?
@rick-fstop-lewis3 жыл бұрын
In college our darkroom was black ceiling with neutral grey walls. The walls in my bathroom darkroom are white and never had issues....I figure it really does not matter as long as your safe light is proper wavelength and not overly bright you should be fine. Besides, any light reflected from the safe light will be red light. I have my safe light hooked to my timer so when the exposure is made the safe light goes off but it seems that's not a problem leaving safe light on.
