Jared I don't know if the difference in format of this episode was intentional or not, but I absolutely loved how much more engaging you were with the camera while doing your work, and rather than a time lapse with background music we got to see commentary with a little fast forward rolled in. It really feels cleaner and more enjoyable overall. Glad to see the new spirit of the channel.

When I graduated High School in June of 1973 I drove across the country with 2 buddies; Massachusetts up to Canada, down to Southern California then up the coast. Our vehicle? A 1971 Ford E100 Van; 6 Cylinder, 3 on the tree! That was the heaviest thing I have ever done. Three teenagers stoned out the whole trip! 50 years ago next June. I was gone for 2 months and spent $330.00, but it was worth it. What an adventure! Cheep thrills. Put Alice Cooper's "School's Out" into the 8 track tape player and CRANK IT UP!! Your Van is a classic. Vanners love these old trucks. Econoline Vans were commercial vehicles and ran forever. Nice score. Thanks for churning up some great memories.

Still really like the idea of keeping it simple. 300 straight 6 with EFI (factory or otherwise), add on overdrive, overhaul the suspension and that would be a great cruiser. The slot mag, side pipe freak van look would be pretty cool. Too much shag carpeting though and you might as well call it Pink's Pleasure Palace.

I agree with you. Build the engine that’s in it (they are awesome, trustworthy engines) and keep the same transmission or another manual if that one has issues. Do something cool with the interior but keep it simple so it can still be used for a parts runner. Put some cool period rims on it (I always loved Cragars but Keystones were cool as well) and just drive and enjoy it. Can’t wait to se you and Derek together finishing this! Definitely keep the 240 in there! Lots of comments saying "300s are easier to find parts for", but the two are identical except for the rods and crank I believe. An Offenhauser intake with a 2 barrel for a bit more HP and torque seems to be perfect for a period correct mod. If you decide to go 4.9, the stock MPFI really bumped up the HP, and a '96 will have mass air flow for a taller cam grind

Stuff a nice 300 in it with Holley EFI, upgrade all the suspension and brakes (6 cyl. 3/4 ton stuff), granny low 4 speed for occasional towing, letter it up with a period correct look, bed liner the interior and have a great parts chaser/utility van. If you could figure out how to put the 4 speed shifter to the column, WOW!

Yes!!! A good, solid rebuild on the 240. Bump the compression up a little, cam upgrade, Offenhauser or Clifford intake with a small 4 barrel, dual outlet header and side exit exhaust. Hey Jared 🙂 Love the old Econoline. My take is: modern brakes, suspension work, decent engine and auto transmission to make it an occasional tow rig, and D-ring load-securing eyes bolted through to the chassis in the rear. Patina stays (that’s non-negotiable for car guys 😆 ). Then use it as a gofer/parts-chaser. It would look epic with “Questionable Garage” and a period phone number in period font in faded/patina white 🙂

Really fun project, and I can't believe the improvement after all that elbow grease. My vote is for where you're leaning: restoring it to some version of an 80's appropriate van. That late 70's early 80's style of van life was a crazy moment in car culture, and, in a way, it's just come back last year. This project would be a really fun way to bridge those two eras via a video series. Throw in some engine updates to address the malaise era power problems, some sweet era appropriate mags, and then get some crushed velvet going in the interior after you weld up those rust holes near the wheel wells. Bonus points for an 8-track player :)

Jared, even after hearing your idea of hot rodding inline 6 and throwing on some neat wheels, I'm still liking the offhand suggestion of building this van into a basic camper van you can take on other revivals or just camp in whenever, dress it up a bit if you wanted to, but turning it into a camper van doesn't necessarily need to be that expensive. I'm an RV mechanic myself, and building something low budget for it wouldn't be terribly difficult: maybe build a platform to fit a full size bed, slap it in the back of the van, get some storage drawers underneath, done. Route in some fresh and gray water tanks into the van and a small sink housed in a countertop, that'd be easy with swappable jugs...routing in a basic 2/3 burner propane stove top could be really easy with a single propane line and mount a tank somewhere internally or externally for the rig, then slam in some overhead storage, before you know it, you've got a basic camper with still a substantial amount of space for hauling as that van is a pretty long chassis, food for thought. I'd love to see that, but even if you don't build it like that, I can't wait for the next video! Awesome video this time around, as the van looks amazing after this wash!

Dude, great job man. This is really the type of content that's relatable to any person. It makes one proud of what they have instead of constantly seeking out better options which most likely than not aren't better.

If it was my van, I would put a 2.3 eco boost and matching tranny. Then logo it and turn it into a shop truck / touring tow rig. Slot mags would be amazing. They are my favorite. What ever you decide is going to be fun to watch! Looking forward to this build.

Thanks for the time and effort in making this series of videos and also the time and effort in bringing this great van back to life. You’re idea of an ‘80’s style hot-rod build is spot on and the end result will be pure nostalgia for many of us and a new take on style for those unlucky enough to have missed that wonderful era of back yard customization. Bravo!

Hey Jared I was looking and I saw that these vans could be ordered with a 302 and I got thinking. You could try to make it the shop van (I know that Johnny was the shop truck but still) and maybe put an old school Holley 4 barrel carb on with the 3 on the tree and new rear gears. Love the content and I hope you have a great rest of your day/night!

Ok. Been thinking. Having bitten off WAY more than I could chew with a minitruck LS project, I'm going with build the 6. Send it out to the machine shop, rebuild and cam. Forced induction of course. Scrounge an Offenhauser intake, big ol carb or better yet bolt on EFI....

Wow, you really did a great job bringing that paint back around. It's amazing what some shine juice (and lots of elbow grease) can do to old, weathered paint. Looking forward to watch whatever this van will be transformed into.

Here's my idea. Freshen up the steering, and suspension, upgrade the brakes, then swap the engine with a GM 4200 Inline 6, also known as the Ameri-Barra, and turbo it! These engines have great response to being boosted. Build the interior to be a really nice campervan.
@CosRacecar
@CosRacecar Жыл бұрын
I was thinking of the 4200 as well, should be able to get one cheap from a wreckers and you'll actually be able to get parts for it. Who cares if it isn't a Ford motor, that's what hot rodding is all about! And a camper seems really appropriate, it's spent all this time in the woods with little critters living in it, now it could go back and be for bigger critters.
