Constipation is a common problem in inpatient settings, How to prevent and treat constipation in hospitalized patients is the topic of this video. We will discuss the best strategy to prevent constipation including ambulation, adequate hydration, electrolytes optimization, and adding a bulking agent or stool softener. Next, we will discuss different laxative types (Bulking agents, stool softeners, osmotic laxatives, saline laxatives, lubricants, and enemas).
