My wife just adopted a pineapple green cheeked conure. He’s very sweet and a little shy but day 2 he trusts us to pet his head. I’m going to buy the popsicle sticks today and the clicker. Tomorrow I’ll have my wife try the millet step up with him. I learned so much from your video because I’m still new and learning. I hope we can get him comfortable enough to try the harness. my wife had a sun conure growing up.

Note: birds can go more than 1 1/2 hours without food and just have breakfast and dinner but because Twig is a baby, I free feed her pellets. Consult with your vet on how often your specific bird should eat.

I have a 15-year-old GCC named Baby Girl. She was no doubt abused as a chick. she also has "gimpy feet" ( gimpy is a southern us term for disabled/messed limbs, legs, and feet.) I haven't been able to touch or pick her up w/o her slipping away and hiding. even with bum feet, she can still move fast as well as fly fast. I use a hand towel to cover her up. the awful cry from her will break your heart when you touch her in the towel to pick her up. I love her anyway, we're buddies to the end. She and my 21-year-old Quaker Parrot, named Coco are BFF. they cuddle up to each other quite a bit. They visit each other's cages and share food and treats. She has to feel very good about her buddy and trusting him. he is the only one she will let get close to. Baby Girl is friendly to me, not a talker or touchy-feely but I can talk to her and her body language I can read like a well-read book. She will sound off more now. It's a shame that someone mistreated her as a chick. She is a sweetheart. I should be able to handle her just like this lady is doing in her video. I've left their wings alone and untrimmed. I don't like that idea of trimming flight feathers. My birds are out of their cages all day since i retired 12 yrs ago and they love it. Pop has no schedule these days and they don't either.

I'm so sorry to hear about that sweet baby! Glad she at least has a bird friend! I'm currently making a video about working with a hand shy cockatiel and her name is actually Coco too. Hope things improve for you! (And it sounds like Baby Girl and Coco are lucky to have you)

@@blessednestpets i am a good bird daddy. they are lucky and in the 20% that stays with one owner and a stable home from cradle to grave. hand shy is not good but sometimes like my baby girl you have to accept the fact that they are not touchy feely but have a great love and respect for you. my bunch has been with me since they were weaned babies.they are a lot of company to me as a senior citizen. good luck with your cockatiel,coco. i'll be looking for that video. thanks for your reply.

Any tips on a 14 year old adopted GCC? He gets on me if I have food but otherwise not so much.

That's pretty normal, so you're doing great. Bonding often takes more time with birds than it would with domesticated animals, so patience is key. I would focus on trick training to build that bond. Targeting, spin, fetch, etc. are good tricks to start out with since they're hands off. You can even feed meals out of your hand if you want!

Im on the fence about getting a sun concur as my first bird, I just have dogs (they are good dogs) but they play and roughhouse I dont want the bird to be frightened

On my new dog training channel, I have a video on the best way to train dogs around birds: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmWad4aCoqaoo9k But (and I'm being vulnerable here) if you've never been around a sun conure, you can't understand how loud they are. I had a jenday conure several years back and had to rehome her due to noise complaints. You probably already knew that, but I figured I'd say it just in case.

Whats her age? Im getting a 7 month old this week but i think i should get a younger bird to develop a bond or tame. Need suggestions! Thanks in advance

Twig just turned four months old and it's definitely easier to bond with her/him because of that. I will say that I got an aggressive 16-year-old Senegal parrot in 2021 who I now have a better relationship with than I do the baby. Bonding comes with time in my opinion, not with age. Best of luck to you and your coming parrot! As long as you put the work in, you'll be golden.

how is it owning a greek cheek conure ?
@blessednestpets3 ай бұрын
Amazing! Twig is cuddly, active, fairly quiet, and friendly. The major downside of the species is that they're nippy, but I knew that going in. Overall, if you like high energy but small birds, I'd recommend it so far.

Please don't clip wings.
@blessednestpets3 ай бұрын
I 100% agree! Unfortunately, there are no conures in my area (meaning I couldn't find any in my entire state) for sale that don't have clipped wings.
@KelseyCoon-rq5fz16 күн бұрын
She didn’t, but the person they got the bird like that, and I’m having the axactsame issue none of the breeders around my area has birds with pit clipped wings
