This used to be an X53, running the same route, all the way to EXETER, a five hour trip to do 80 miles ! It was so popular, that the bus was often full before it got to Wareham, and was fraught with traffic delays, often arriving nearly an hour late into Exeter. So then it was broken down into four seperate routes, first change was at Weymouth, but the timings meant it became impossible to do that complete trip in one day; the final link, Lyme Regis to Exeter, was then ceased.

Mate Wessex and First will eventually lose everything to Go Ahead as they don’t maintain routes long enough for ppl to use them

I used to drive the whole route. For several years it used to run beyond Poole through to Jervis Place, Bournemouth. But then it didn't do section down to Lulworth - just continued on main road from Red Lion, Winfrith Newburgh to Wool Railway Station.

Very informative comment 👍 I live in Exeter, Devon, and was always impressed with this bus service, all the way to Poole. But, 5 hours is ridiculous. The furthest I ever managed was Exeter to Weymouth, done it a few times. Even that was 3 hours. Then they changed the starting point to Axminster railway station. So, you can get a train Exeter to Axminster. If only they would introduce an Exeter to Weymouth railway service, would probably only take about 90 minutes, turning south at Yeovil Junction. There was a Stagecoach 9A service, Exeter to Lyme Regis - taking about 110 minutes - but that was scrapped beyond Seaton, about 3 months ago.

These Enviros are ex Manchester First they then were loaned to Rotala Diamond and if you check the Rotala wifi is STILL active lol That driver couldn’t even leave the stand at Poole lol 😂 The stop at 1.25 ish isn’t Portbury Red Lion it’s called Winfrith Red Liom

When I see a situation like at 58:00, it always amazes me that car drivers are so reluctant to back up to a wider section or somewhere else they can pull off the road to let the bigger vehicle past, but instead insist on squeezing on through, which takes much longer and puts them in much more danger of damaging their car!

I got told when I drove this route on this exact road further down by lulworth village that I was an ashole and a bad driver when the woman was on the wrong side of the road and could see a double decker coming down a hill towards her She called me so many names I tried to explain to her calmly about how long it takes to stop a 15tonne vehicle safely with passengers on but she wouldn’t listen thus happens all day every day all round the country as most other drivers have no skill or care

Oh wow What can I tell you?! So I was agency in Weymouth at First Wessex for a few months could still be there now but I got bored lol and they are replacing all the Volvos with ADL rubbish this route can have so many different buses on it it’s not always a branded Jurassic Coaster. The X54 was my fave route since not many ppl got on it and I got to drive all the way to Poole and be the only First bus in Poole used to get lots of pics taken in Poole as ppl don’t see First anymore thanks to MoreBus monopoly. Great route plenty of running time even if the swing bridge at Poole hold you up for 15mins.
