First Year with a Husky (8 weeks to 1 year)

I adopted Leo, my husky, when he was just 8 weeks old! Here's a few of our favorite moments while he was growing up as a puppy all the way until he's 1 year old :)

Just got a Siberian Husky last Saturday at exactly 8 weeks old. Best thing to happen in my life. I love that dog like no tomorrow. I hope Leo is doing alright!

hey i just got my 2 month old siberian husky samoyed mix, i have many issues with the potty training and he keeps eating everything he sees weather it be rocks and leafs so i try not take him out

Huskys are smarter than Other dog breeds. When i got my first husky he was 19 months old and I was home number 5! I learned that you cannot train them the same way as you do other dogs, with my first one it took me over a year to train him not to escape or run away when off lead, but it would have been alot faster if i had disregarded the usual training methods for other dogs alot sooner. After he died i got my current husky as a 9 week old puppy. This time I knew what I was doing, It took me a week to toilet train him, 2 weeks to off lead train him and he's never tried to escape home or runaway. He's now 2 and Half years old and he's undesexed male. The trick is to entertain their mind as much as exercise their body and learn that anymore than 3 repeats of anything is boring for them, but the one thing they never seem to get bored doing is playing and running. Those are your tools to get them to do what you want them too. Both of mine never tore anything up and had the full run of the house but were trained not to climb on furniture/ my bed etc.... They know exactly what you want them to do, the trick is getting them to want to please you, which is always a trade off as you also have to please them.

My Rogue is 5 months old she a red girl, and she's so good with everything but potty training! She won't ask me to go outside and just sneaks behind my back and goes on the hallway or the kitchen, even though I take her out often and praise her for going outside. It seems she got reverse potty trained and often holds it for when she's indoors 😔 Can you give me any potty training tips since you've got it down? I would be so grateful...

Try keeping her in one room when shes inside so that if she does go to go in the house you will see it, if you see her going to go run grab her saying no and interrupt her pick her up take her out to where you want her to go, put her down and say ok. When she goes dont just praise her have a quick game with her favourite toy. Everything with huskies is a trade off, always make sure you get what you want before you give her what she wants. Never give her anything without getting her to obey a command first. Dont use pee pads in the house, so she learns that going to the toilet inside is never ok.

i suddenly miss my dog , his name is Papi and he looks just like Leo , their of the same color 😊 even though he is just half husky , he looks like pure , but smaller haha , unfortunately he died last april , and seeing Leo made me miss him even more , bc i often see husky of their color here in PH 😄 im so happy i found your channel ❤️

How is your ankle doing now, is it 100% back, or do you feel any pain or discomfort from time to time , Is the ankle slightly still swollen up compared to your other good ankle?? I have an Alaskan Malamute, as a puppy she was like a 2 year old baby but could run 15 MPH. It was recommended that I crawl on the floor to see what she could get into. Any items of value put away. I have furniture marks from the teething. It is said this is from boredom but I'm not sure about that.

He looks like my Ajax, same head markings! Only that his eyes are currently ice-blue snow at 9weeks old. I wonder if this will change… I hope not!! He’s currently not getting along with my Aunt’s 2 Pomskies because they’re all male and the older one is the “Alpha”. Turns out my husky was the Alpha of his litter too, so they don’t get along. My little Ajax can be groomed, not afraid of the vet, likes water, doesn’t howl (sadly) so I hope he grows up to be a typical loud husky!!

I waited until he had his 3 rounds of shots just to be on the safe side before really taking him anywhere. I’d take him on hikes but carry him the whole time 🙃 congrats on your new pup!! 🎉

Well screaming in their crate isn't ideal! It's supposed to be a soothing place for them, their den, that they consider home and is best for their safety and your belongings that they stay there when unsupervised. Nothing wrong with a husky singing to voice his opinion or talk to you, but in the crate it's more of a temper tantrum and shouldn't be encouraged!

I really don’t recommend pedigree, purina, science diet, brands like that for a husky. If you do a lot of research, youll find that huskies need a lot of protein and exercise to burn it off. The brand i feed mine is taste of the wild, its a very good brand for the price! wellness is also good, same with hollistic. Make sure the protein is the number one ingredient, little to no fillers too.

My Siberian husky Bruin is 8 now but when i got him he had the same issue, come to find out he needed a grain free food! But yes they definitely do thrive with a higher protein diet my husky likes the red meat based kibble, they are higher priced but with these dogs its kind of necessary…good luck!

Human quality meat, raw and cooked meaty bones(raw) NO DOG FOOD at all is how i feed my husky these days, I figure anything that says "not fit for human consumption" is no good for my dog either.

Not anymore! It took a lot of consistency in redirecting his mouthy bites. Whenever he got into it, I would disengage/stand up or walk away and replace with a dog toy.

I think as a full grown husky. Still a lot of puppy in him. Pups are adorable, but a full grown dog becomes a member of the family.

@@LifeWithSnowDogs I noticed how he darkened right away. We have a 2 year old Siberian red and she has done just the opposite. She keeps getting lighter and lighter as she gets older so I tell people she is a "Siberian gold". Who knows how she will end up down the line? All but white maybe. Could totally relate to the trials and tribulations of puppyhood. Huskies are a force of destruction.

Huskies are NOT for first time dog owners, they are difficult even if you had other breeds of dogs for years. As a kid my family bred Rough Collies, I had 3 Collies, a duck and a horse, all of them at once were easier to train and look after than one husky. You have to walk/run a husky EVERYDAY for at least an hour preferrably 2hours. No matter what the weather is and you have to brush them daily and live with your clothes house car and yourself always having hair everywhere. Huskies are the most beautiful, intelligent dogs, but they are also the most given up in shelters because people cant do the comittment and time it takes to look after them.
