WHY to these things ALWAYS make landfall in pitch darkness? We had Sally hit us in Gulf Shores 4 years ago at 2-3am. It was just a strong Cat 2 and it was scary enough. I would NOT be staying in Milton's path. Be safe everyone.

They estimated a Cat 3 originally which was nothing more than wishful thinking - this could still strengthen more in those deep warm waters along the way - which can boost this to a projected CAT 5 strength at hit. Folks just need to prepare for the worse and pray for the best.

Misinformation? So they should just always say it's going to be a hell on earth CAT 5 then? They do the best with the tools they have available. It's gotten hugely more accurate over the past decade or two. Of course nobody can be 100% accurate on these things when they are 3 days out. That's why they constantly have updates every couple of hours as it progresses. Can you predict the future? And yes, I live in south FL near Miami, been in FL since 1992. So I'm very familiar with hurricanes.
