A deadly aircraft accident has taken place in the US capital, Washington DC. A passenger plane carrying 64 people was about land at DC's Reagan Airport. A US military Black Hawk helicopter was conducting nighttime drills nearby. The helicopter collided with the plane as it was trying to land, causing a midair explosion. Both aircraft fell into the Potomac river below. Search and rescue operations are underway. But DC officials fear that no survivors will be found. US President Donald Trump has criticised the conduct of the Black hawk and the Air Traffic Controller. He says the crash should have been prevented.

A commercial jet is much faster than a helicopter. The Black Hawk crew might have seen the jet too late to react. At landing speeds, an airliner is still going 250-300 km/h, while a Black Hawk cruises at 250 km/h max-meaning it could close the gap in seconds. Yes, a helicopter can maneuver quickly, but it depends on altitude, speed, and reaction time. If the Black Hawk was flying low or at an angle that limited its visibility, it might not have had enough time to climb or turn away. If ATC failed to warn them in time, the reaction window could have been too short.

Air flight controller didn't inform them with a good time duration to make a decision. They just asked if they see the plane. Most probably the control tower guy forgot that the helicoptor dril is going on, so may be the forgot to inform them before hand. Informing couple of seconds before is not the way.

Well if you know anything sir, you would know dc has terminal and weather service as example at all airports. They go in and out on night manuvers cuz it’s part of training….this was an air traffic control problem, they allowed the black hawk to close and their request wasn’t soon enough for escape manuvers. @ well you asked and I told ya, plenty on here saying or implying conspiracy. I explained how airports work, cuz!!!! Wait for it!!!!! I worked at weather svs office at portland international working in liaison with airport tower, cuz we had planes, and heliport, etc. OH and while in the military, that’s right, ft knox training center, I worked range control,and with Louisville international who worked the radar, actually had a red phone that didn’t even ring, u just picked it up….we had helicopters, and weapons, and other bases come and train, however every now and then we had accidents, usually pilot error, or a rogue plane fly thru, and get struck with a heat seeking round as an example, a couple f14s came flaming down and so forth….in to our airspace during training. So this again is an air traffic control issue, clear as hell on the radar they showed here, unfortunately accidents happen. And this was an accident.

Air traffic operators, signalled a clear communication to thwart the collision from happening. Military helicopters, don't fly around the vicinity routes of commercial passenger airlines.
