However, China has opposed the plan, stating that India has "no right" to construct these plants. Beijing's objections stem from its territorial claims on Arunachal Pradesh. China views the planned hydropower plants as India's attempt to strengthen its hold on the region.
Beijing itself has plans to build a "super dam" on this river in Tibet, and New Delhi's projects could potentially impact the Chinese ambitions.
