It is time to fully accept the fact that, there is no longer the "Wow!" factor in new phones anymore. For me there were 2 revolutions in phone. The first was the shrinking in size from the classic brick-size(Motorola DynaTAC 8000x) to palm-size(eg Nokia era phones). The second was the switch from keypads to touch-screen(thank Apple's first iPhone for this). After this there is no breakthrough of similar scale. Improvements to processing power, camera resolution and harder scratch-proof screen don't count.

I typically upgrade my smartphone every 4-6 years, depending on issues like app updates or memory problems causing the phone to lag. My approach is, why replace a phone if it's still working well? When it begins to hang and I need a new one, I'll buy it, making sure it will last another 4-6 years. I always go for Android because it’s more affordable and performs well with all apps and games. Plus, the cost of one iPhone is roughly equivalent to three Androids, and having multiple Androids ensures you never run out of battery life, even if you use two phones at once-you’ll always have a spare to charge or keep as backup. Ultimately, though, it's your money and your choice!

I have ABSOLUTELY come to find that they drop features from new phones so they can either cut costs or put them back in again later. You will find the old model had stereo sound, or better resolution picture for instance. Things like removeable replaceable batteries were a huge plus, or fixable parts and these frequently disappear in new models. And of course, everyone has already figured that out and the old models are sold out, all you can buy is the new one. And you're only buying a new phone because you're forced to, because some new software was written so it can't run on the old phone. Its very frustrating.

Huawei mate XT was designed to target a niche market who are willing to pay USD2800. Today, it's pre-order hits 6.5 million. That means Huawei's sales should be at least USD18.2B just on this model alone. This niche group will be most thrilled with new smartphone releases. For general public consumption, yes, they demand for better battery life and durability so that they can keep them for years.

I exactly thought the same thing and still remember actually having this debate with my roommate when I was in awe with my new Nokia N73 in 2007. But I was wrong. People love their smartphones. The reason for decreased demand is because the phones have actually become very reliable than they were 7-8 years before and the change year by year is just incremental. So I do agree with your assessment but will always stick to the point that people love their phones

Using smartphones since 2013, I'm currently using my 3rd smartphone, which costs ₹15k. My previous phones too were 8k and 13k, which i used for 5 yrs both. I use my phone only for battery performance, whatsapp and entertainment like music and videos. and it's enough for me to use it for 5 yrs. 2013-2018 :- Nokia Lumia 520 2018-2023 :- Nokia 8.1 Since 2023 :- Samsung M32

Excellent Palki. There was a time every since i used iPhone 3s and used to upgrade each year to a new one. After the 12 pro max was released, all the models till date the 16 pro max is similar. Makes no sense to upgrade and the difference in price I invest the same in SIP.

Rightly said...my 4 year old samsung phone has much more 'valuable' features than the new phones at similar price range!

valid point. don't just buy new phone for minor upgrade or hobby or you are so wealthy or its on EMI. But also think about environment.

That last question is exactly right. I still use my Samsung Galaxy S6 edge plus. It works great. The only thing is it doesn't allow me to use the latest apps. So, sadly, I have to part with it. I'm just waiting for the Samsung rollable 12" screen coming out next year.

what they dont give is Customer support when their expensive phones dont work like mine S22 ultra. They do not give free replacment of display when its their fault. I dont think i care for phones now and they should be not released every year now, useless. It has just become status symbol nothing else, all expensive phones are useless and customer support customer care is ZERO. I am suffering with S22 ultra. Green lines, White display, and there are no laws to help customer.
