Israel has intensified its strikes on Lebanon, killing nine people. Simultaneously, it is planning a "significant strike" on Iran in retaliation for the missile barrage on Israel two days ago. On Wednesday night, Israeli forces targeted a building housing a health center affiliated with the Iran-backed Hezbollah. This follows the announcement by the Israel Defense Forces that eight soldiers had been killed in southern Lebanon, its first casualties since ground operations against Hezbollah began. Meanwhile, Iran has issued new threats against Israel. The Iranian president warned that if Israel acts against Iran, Tehran will retaliate in a more severe way. But there are also growing concerns about Iran's security establishment. Reports suggest that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is increasingly worried about Israeli infiltration of senior government ranks in Tehran. So, if I put the puzzle together, then Iran torpedoed the Israel-Saudi Arabian rapprochement by inciting the Oct 7 civilian massacre using Hamas. A hide and seek game ensued between hospitals and refugee camps, where Israel sought to free the hostages and fight the perpetrators - with enormous civilian casualties. At the same time two other proxies were egged on by Iran, the Huthis and the Hezbollah to attack Israel - 9000 rockets from the Hezbollah so far. That in turn displaced 90000 Israelis and Israel decided to invade the stronghold of Hezbollah. That in turn gives now Iran the reason to rain down rockets on Israel. Twice now and threatening further escalation, should Israel not stop trying to get peace in the north. Quite clever, I'd say. And loads of people reminding Israel of the red lines.
