There is a huge competition between middle eastern countries to diversify there economy and for influence. I had visited UAE last year they are pursuing Abu Dhabi vision 2030. Saudi Arabia also has vision 2030 and we know qatar spend billions in fifa world cup.I can tell you the amount of millionaires from India, UK, Russia leave Dubai or Abu Dhabi buying real estate in Ras Al Khaimah. I think they want to be a neutral country like Switzerland and they are way ahead.

Latest news is China's port work is ongoing. UAE is not some new US ally. UAE leaders always have excellent relations with the West. It is Iraq, Yemen and Egypt that had once close relations with USSR. China never had the ability to do much in the past. Now they are expanding trade everywhere. Huawei equipment is used in the UAE, be it 5G cellphone, or fiberoptic network. UAE has one of the first, if not the first 5G network, since 2020 and I read that it is Huawei. Chinese phones are very popular in the UAE. Huawei phones and watches and other Chinese brands sell more in the mass market, i.e. low income expats although most locals own expensive Apple and many higher paid expats own Samsung and Apple. Chinese are investing heavily in the real estate, too. There are special Chinese markets for Chinese non-branded hardware products in every emirate of the UAE. UAE-Saudi relations are fine.

It is a low trust society with crime and oppressive political system based on a single Communist Party organization. Chinese by nature are dishonest and try to cheat. I have visited China and have seen their uncouth behavior and dishonest business practices. Whatever be all of those, doesn't amount to collapse of a large nation with 1.4 billion people.
