Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2024 in Parliament today. This marked Sitharaman's seventh consecutive budget speech, the most by any finance minister so far. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Union Budget 2024 saying that "it empowers all major sections of the society". In February, the Finance Minister tabled the interim budget and there have not been no major reforms or policy changes since then. The Modi 3.0 government's budget allocation is reflective of their focus on four classes - women, farmers, youth, and the poor. In her budget speech, Sitharaman announced that the government will spend 24 billion dollars on job creation over the next five years. Around 1.8 billion dollars have been allocated for education, employment and skilling initiatives.
NDA's key allies in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh received significant infrastructure allocations as well. In a bid to boost India's start-up ecosystem, In a major move, the government has also abolished angel tax. This comes as a major relief for start-ups who raise money from individual investors.
