I follow Italian politics, Meloni has grown very slowly from 6% to 26%...obviously there has been an acceleration in the final 2 years, but it is a very normal process. When you have a low percentage you have less visibility even in the media, when you reach 10% everything changes. Meloni is the only Italian politician who has worked without shortcuts, in the most natural way possible, which is why her votes are solid, she is authentic. Meloni has never been against abortion, she has declared this several times by making numerous statements. She only wanted to improve the law on abortion to give a voice to those who do not want abortion. Mussolini has nothing to do with her party, she wasn't even born when there was Fascism, anyone who talks about the danger of fascism today in 2024 is simply ignorant of history.

This is a rather superficial presentation so let med add some context: the Italian Fascist Party under Mussolini was created after WWI. Mussolini, who was a Socialist but expelled from the party because the supported Italia's participation in the war, wanted Italia to become a state equal to France, UK and others. One part of this was to strengthen the Italian industry by corporatism, where owners and workers were united, not divided as opponents. Another part was active colonialism: Mussolini wanted to create an Italian colonial empire stretching from Libya to Abyssinia (Ethiopia). Most of this policy had to be abandoned after WWII for the simple reason, that most colonial areas became independent states (and dictatorships, but that is another history). Meloni has grown up in a different time than Mussolini, and thus she can not directly relate to his policy, which in many aspect is outdated. Instead she has used the same idea of a economical, political strong and populous Italy to formulate a completely new policy for the 21st century. One part of that is to stop the migration into Italy. She wants these migrants to be replaced with Italian children, thus she is against abortion (actually murder on children). Another part is to end the crime wave (supported by the Left). She wants to make Italy economically strong and use the possibilities of the European common market. None of this is really controversial except among the Extreme Left, who uses the term "extreme Right" against everyone, who does not supports its totalitarian, freedom suppressing (so-called "gay rights people" are the most intolerant towards all other groups), mafia supporting neo-Stalinist policies.
