The nice thing about this new rise of latin artists is they really are a "gang", in the best way. They don't just pay lip service with that latino gang stuff, they don't just try and compete against one another, they raise each other up and collaborate a lot. He has a lot of bops of his own, but also check out his collabs with Bad Bunny, like Si tu novio te deja sola, or the whole Oasis album they did together. Not a dull moment. His collabs with Rosalia, who is another amazing artist to discover, from Barcelona, are also noteworthy. Their song Brillo is a whole mood, if not as widely known as Con Altura. Fun fact, Brillo came out just a few days before Malamente, which was the hit that propulsed Rosalia to the heights that she is on now, performing on SNL and winning awards left and right. He got on that train early! I like to think his song Rosa is inspired by her. :P

One of the top 10 biggest selling artist on the planet historically and one of the two biggest Colombian artists (#1 Shakira, #2 J Balvin). He is the king of modern reggaeton; music genre that he redefined and catapulted into the worldwide spectrum. He is truly the nicest guy on the planet. He is also very down to earth, he walks about the streets of Colombia and in the states (he resides in both countries) like any of us would. He takes the subway, does his grocery; he keeps it real. @curiousmisfitexplorer99333 жыл бұрын
Its probably because the struggle is real to make it as an artist anywhere in the world; but if you start in any industry outside of the usa or uk, you have to work 10 times harder to get anywhere. And specifically many of our artists here in latin america, just like J Blavin described it, have to hustle for real. They have to put themselves out there, sing in the streets for coins, knock on doors at restaurants, clubs, birthday parties, anywhere, to get to play a song or two, act as their own managers with out any knowledge on how it works; put the days earnings into the music and even sacrifice meals to print their own cds, until they make it. So massive respect to those hard workers like J Balvin. They literally paved their ways through hard work, pain, sweat, tears, blood and even hunger and poverty.
