🇲🇽 CIUDAD JUÁREZ, CHIHUAHUA - It's time to head back to Northern Mexico, starting with Ciudad Juárez in Chihuahua, a border city neighbouring El Paso, Texas in the USA! Is this the most underrated and misunderstood city in Mexico? As a foreigner, it's not common to see a fellow non-Mexicans who visits here, so as always, I decided to go!
Many would describe Juárez as being dangerous and not safe given its location, often associated with illegal immigration and drug trafficking at the US/Mexico border. The border wall is here for all to see. Many visitors to Mexico stick to colonial towns in the south/centre or beach towns because they have this obsession with being SAFE! Mexico has much more to offer! We have burritos, check out the famous Kentucky bar, check out el Centro, Parque Chamizal and more, including La Equis de Juarez!
Juárez is full of history, cool people, great food, great weather, and some awesome things to do! You can read some history of Ciudad Juárez at the following links -
www.nytimes.com/1981/07/18/us...
www.worldabandoned.com/ciudad...
If you're thinking of traveling Mexico, moving to Mexico or being an expat in Mexico, consider Juárez - it's an amazing city!

🇬🇧 I hope you enjoyed the legendary Juarez! Just a quick note (a few people have messaged me about it), yes I am aware of the 2019 Walmart shooting in El Paso - there is a brief mention of it in the El Paso video (next video). Sorry my battery died! Did you catch the list of past Mexico locations mentioned in the video? Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl, Chimalhuacan, Torreon, Culiacan, Mazatlan, Toluca, Durango, Chihuahua, Ciudad Cuauhtemoc! This is final season David!

David I want a day ask you when you crossed into Juarez from El Paso did the Mexican authorities asked to see your passport this time or did they not seem to care and just let it you walk in without even really paying attention to you? I ask because in the past he used to be that I could just walk in in the Mexican side of the border could care less it was more the American side and wanted to make sure you had your papers in order. And I want to make sure that's the way it still is because I'm planning to go back to Mexico here in a little while and I wanted to make sure I could still walk in to Mexico because I don't have a passport I only have my birth certificate and ID and I wanted to make sure the borders were still open in Mexico and they weren't checking for a passport

You are about the only KZbinr visiting Mexico that enjoys the kind of graceless and sometimes maybe ugly urban landscape of the cities in Northern Mexico but when it comes to urban people warmth is the same as any magic town of Central or Southern Mexico. You present a more complete picture of what Mexico is, not just the pretty little old colonial towns, great video David

I live in El Paso, Texas... But I go to Juarez frequently. The downtown there, is actually more vibrant, interesting and modern than El Paso's. I have never experienced problems either when living there or visiting. I did live in several neighborhoods - colonias, fraccionamentos, etc. And during the supposed " worst years." 2009- 2015. As a woman, I actually get better respect on the rutas , better customer service in restaurants and stores, than here. In El Paso people will not give up seats to elderly or disabled bus passengers and the drivers won't intervene - older women in their 60's can have disrespectful comments hurled at them - in Mexico, - never. If it wasn't for issues of my health insurance I would still live there! Also, even many well- to- do Americans go to Juarez for dental and medical treatments - they are affordable, professional, and efficient.

Annette your local info is invaluable! It's funny, there was a bit I cut out of this about dental treatment, a friend of mine in San Diego does exactly that in Tijuana! Interesting point about manners etc, it's just like where I'm from, same issues with people not giving up seats etc, for heavily pregnant women too. In Mexico I've never seen that being an issue. I'm editing the El Paso video as we speak!

@@LuanNguyen-1548 I live in Juarez, but have in known much of El Paso. So here some ideas. In general terms El Paso is a very safe city, it might clasiffied in 4 areas… East, many natives people from El Paso and Mexicans; North, I believe mostly US citizens; West divided between Mexicans and US citizens, and Central part, mostly natives and Mexicans. From what I know, all of it is ok. Downtown and Center part is Indira of Old. In the Border of El Paso and New Mexico, yo might find more natives Than elsewhere.

David: I’m greatly impressed to see how objective and how appreciative you are of one of the most incredibly giving cultures you’ll ever encounter, you will find humble, dirty and in some cases like myself ugly people that work endlessly for a better future. I was privileged to be born in this humble city and I could not have been born in a better place. You’d never experience hunger, thirst, loneliness, emptiness nor boredom in Ciudad Juárez! Locals will offer and give to you whatever you need before you even acknowledge you need it. It might not be Cosmopolitan, nor is it packed with shallow runway models on their streets, but wherever you go, you will be treated with an innate hospitality, warmth and a delicious humble meal that you will remember and treasure for life, enjoy!!

@@Renram22 currently there are no major events to attend, we have an small amusement/fair park called Borunda, where it opens free access to public at night and it's very visited on weekends. There are various shopping malls around the city to explore and try some food: Misiones, Plaza Juarez, Alameda Iglesias, which are more centric and unique. There are various restaurants that go from street food types to high class service, my recommended ones are: Ajiji - Great Mexican food with average cost. Taco fish - Cheap street style fish tacos restaurant. Mariscos Wazza - Great seafood with average cost. Chapa prime - Expensive Mexican style restaurant Viva México - Mexican Restaurant that gives a 1-2 hour show with horses and live music, dancers and all representative of most of Mexican culture 🙌 you need a reservation and arrive early about 5 to 6pm to have time to eat dinner and enjoy the show after (look up Restaurante Viva Mexico Juarez in google to make a reservation online, the show is only available on Friday to Sunday nights). Visit the Central Park, a large open to public park, full of weekend events from early midday to night. Next to it there is the largest Interactive Museum called La Rodadora, great experience for all family and adults, large variety of exhibitions and activities to explore and learn. Please try our speciality, all best burritos of the world (Los Metiches & Aquimichu are my favorites). To have Breakfast visit "La Nueva central", its a large mexican cafeteria open 24/7, great flavor, service and all menu is not time restricted. For night bar and drinks action, i recommend you just go to your nearest restaurant bar or hotel bar, there is no particular place and almost everywhere seems the same, if you really want to visit some, there is San Martin, Azenso Bar, or any bar in boulevard Gomez Morin (please refrain to visit a heavy populated bar, because most of the locals do drink hard and depending of the music, people can get aggressive with each other. Please only visit restaurant-bars if you want to drink and have a pleasant night, or if someone gives good recommendations of a friendly bar feel free to explore. Have fun 🙌

Hi, David... I'm glad you made it to Ciudad Juarez and am glad you're finally here! I thought you would love it. Your photography and drone shots are stunning! We see La Equis from the rolling hills over here in El Paso, a landmark of this area, and I love seeing it. I've been crossing to Juarez for my dental work for the last 10 years and receive better dental care there then I ever have in the US. We have people who fly to El Paso from all over the US and Canada for dental, vision, and medical care in Juarez for a fraction of the cost. We actually have 4 border crossings between Juarez and El Paso. Bridge of the Americas is also called the free bridge and usually has all the international semi-truck traffic, pedestrians cross as well but it ends up in a residential area of El Paso. Most Juarez pedestrians cross over on the Puente Internacional Paso Del Norte Bridge to shop in downtown El Paso in the Santa Fe Street commercial area and the pedestrian and vehicular traffic is usually always heavy in both directions. The Santa Fe Street area on the El Paso side is also very lively and colorful, and most all of downtown El Paso is nice. We share many connections between our two cities, and many people cross back and forth because of having family on both sides. In El Paso about 85% of our population is Mexican and bi-lingual, and many El Pasoans speak Espanol ONLY. Most El Pasoans are NOT Anglos nor white! Juarez always has lively and colorful street life. Glad you made it to the world-famous Kentucky Club. Glad you loved Juarez so much, I knew you would! And besides the Margarita, you should know that they claim Juarez is also where the burrito was invented! So you had both originals in their source! Tin Tan was a Mexican actor, singer, and comedian who was raised in and began his career in Juarez, and was known for having kissed the most MX actresses in his career. He also did Spanish dubbing of Disney films,

I loved this video. I also loved the kind things you had to say about the Mexican people. It great you touched on it because many people in the US mistakenly believe that people are just dying to come ti the US. In fact, there are usually three reasons they actually do: 1- necessity, 2- education, or 3- family unification. Juarez does tend to have a lot of Americans in its consular area as that’s the consulate that processes the immigrant visa petitions. This was a great video. I wish now that I would have expired a bit more when I was there.

Juarez-El Paso are like twin cities, since many elpasoans have mexican origin, and viceversa, so they cross the border for school, work, and so many have double citizenship as well. Just realized what you meant when stating "learnt spanish by immersion". Cool 😎. Same thing with me learning english, since here at the border, you get to listen to US radio, open US TV, and get to practice every weekend by crossing the border. I learnt english way before going to college in El Paso for some time (UTEP, University of Texas at El Paso), thanks to radio and TV, and because some of my relatives are americans, altough my english writting is still quite poor. Hello from a border town on the north side of the USA! I really enjoyed getting a close look at Juarez - especially your epic drone shots and the information about Sebastian (I love that X!)! That said, (and not to minimize how much I appreciate your videos), I have to quibble with your use of the word "destination". Using one of the definitions as "a place that people make a special trip to visit" - you did not convince me that Juarez fits the bill. I can see (and have seen) dilapidated, boxy, utilitarian, mid-century commercial buildings in just about every city in the USA and Canada. Why would I make a special trip to see them in Juarez? The thing about central Mexico, with its prehispanic, colonial and modern history and architecture - it is worth making a special trip to see things that you cannot see anywhere else in North America (plus one can enjoy the same, or arguably better, Mexican culture and food as in Juarez). Vancouver (as a city rather than as an indigenous settlement) is barely 150 years old. Even Montreal and New York are newbies compared to Central Mexico. I wonder how long I would be able to entertain myself in Cd Juarez on a special trip/ vacation? My point is: you might be bored with it, but don't knock Central Mexico (so much, at least ... I agree with you about the narrow focus of many Mexico KZbinrs). There is much in Central Mexico worthy of one a special trip. In fact, I still discover and learn new things every time I visit. Despite my quibbles ... I am going to miss your "tell it the way you see it" approach to your videos!
@davidostrowski679
@davidostrowski679 2 жыл бұрын
Haha we will always have to agree to disagree on this one my man! The boxy more modern architecture is what I like simply because you just don't really get it where I'm from. What is 'Mexican culture'? Culture in thr North is just as valid as in boring colonial towns I mean splendid LOL. And food... omg definitely arguable. The burritos in this were a crap example but IMO food in Chihuahua, Durango and Coahuila is far superior to somewhere like Oaxaca or Guanajuato. More variety, more flavour. I couldn't eat gorditas in Mexico City, they are like supermarket food compared to up north. I guess there is a North/South divide in Mexico!

About the tortillas I think it depends on the person I prefer flour torrilla, but I also really like corn tortilla, I also always buy frijoles con queso burrito and every time people are like why don't you get something else, but that is what I like the most and that place at the end "Los burritos el negro" they are really good. If you have time and its open you should go and try them.

Hey Maria! Frijoles y queso definitely gets some hate! I like it but this one was a bit overloaded with frijoles! Thanks for the recommendation, I loved walking down Insurgentes with all those art deco style buildings, felt like I was in the 50s!
