Fish and Chips in SWANAGE ! | Amazing Homemade Fish Cake | The Fish Plaice

On a beautiful early spring day, I head down to Swanage to try some fish and chips by the sea. We head to probably the most popular fish and chip shop in town, called The Fish Plaice.
My daughter's friend Jenson helps cook the chips, and I have heard they make an amazing homemade fish cake too, so have to give that a try!

I do like a chip shop that makes their own fishcakes - infinitely better than any shop bought ones!

I love that you keep the condiment packages and carry them around with you whenver you get food. That's actually really clever!

I started doing it to save them for camping trips etc. They're so convenient for that, especially if you have a selection.

There are a few good chippies in Swanage, Wright on the Beach is another one to try, will be reviewing it soon hopefully 😃

Unless things have changed, you went to the wrong chippie. You should have walked about ten steps further round the corner and gone to The Parade Fish and Chips, or the Herston Fish Bar as you head out of town. Only grockles go to The Fish Plaice

And in Wareham, the locals go to Long Johns on West Street whereas the grockles go to The Chipperies on South Street

I do plan to visit them all. Have eaten in the Parade, upstairs in the restaurant, was a bit of a mixed bag. Agreed on the Wareham ones, even though I briefly worked in the Chipperies as a teenager!

Spoke too soon about the weather, it's turned really cold again! Considering you bought several items and the quality and portion size of the food looked excellent I think the price is fine. It's paying a lot of money for poor quality food that I object too. That fish cake looked a good size, you could have one of those and a portion of chips for a nice meal. We have some great fish and chip places on the east coast and the price of fish and chips has rocketed, I always get haddock and with a portion of chips it's now over £8.

Yeah, I was at the Weymouth FC game last night, and it was -2 at full time… baltic! I also don’t think it was bad value for round these parts, although it does annoy me a little that you could get the same thing for a good deal less in other parts of the country…

Stayed near Wimborne Minster for a few days this week with the good lady, travelled on the wonderful Swanage Steam Railway and visited this takeaway afterwards on your recommendation. Rule one... use your glasses and make sure you don't pick up a sugar sachet (to the left of the wooden knives and forks) to put on your cod and chips! Portion decent size, textures good, flavours (minus the sugar!) fine. Well worth the visit.

The Steam Railway is good isn't it, we have done it a few times over the years. So you're telling me that you didn't stumble on something genius by adding sugar to the chips then (sound like something that would happen in the States though!!)

Yep, if a chippy makes it's own fish cakes then it's a sign that in the main they know what they're doing

You've got to do that Wimpy review Greeno! Make sure you get a 'bender in a bun' if they still do that, there's nothing quite like it in any other fast food place. they do a fish finger buttie as well. 😯

Yeah the Wimpy review is definitely gonna happen as long as the owners are happy for me to film in there. I remember the Bender, although I don’t think I ever ate one. Fish finger buttie, well that’s the food of champions, I like mine with white bread, plenty of butter and lashings of salad cream, yum!

Hi Thomas - unfortunately down by the coast in Dorset that's about the going rate... you'd do well to find anywhere around me that'll do you fish and chips for less than a tenner. I was chatting with someone from Cumbria the other day about the price of a battered jumbo sausage being about £2.50 here, whereas at their local it's about a pound - huge difference!!
