One of the biggest changes in a waterbody ever done was in the netherlands we made a sea into a lake, that of cause changed the kind of fish that are in that lake/old sea it took about 2 years after closing it off to became freshwater instead of salt water. It was called the zuiderzee before closing it off, now its called the ijsselmeer.

Also dont forget the usual flooding that happened once in a while. If we didnt block it off the province of flevoland would never have existed and everyone that currently lives near the ijsselmeer would constantly be in danger of having a flooded house. The ecological impact was indeed horrible but it also made it possible to turn the land that was a flooding risk into actually livable area.

7:45 Yes our trout can have such pronounced red spots! It is indeed brown trout (Salmo trutta). These seem to be quite young so has retained their smolt colouration (they have a tendency to do so if they stay in the river/lake). They could potentially be mistaken for arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) although they tend to have light spots on a darker body and red or white bellies etc.

The arctic char I've seen resemble the bull trout and brook trout in north America. Are the arctic char of Europe more like brown trout?
@GBGlass1
@GBGlass1 2 ай бұрын
@@adamg7984 no there's a few differences between the two, an artic char seem a lot more pale than a brown trout. You can also tell easily a difference just by looking at their fins, char have very red/orange fins with a white line at the end of the fin whilst brown trout have more yellow fins which sometimes also have a white line but its not something you can see on every specimen.

You need to create a series where you go out into the field in log all the different species you find in a Pokédex like thing, you could get an animator to do some cheap animations or maybe do them yourself, I think it would be a really cool series that would bring a lot more attention to your channel. It would also encourage kids to go out and experience nature. And we need that right now.

Had close encounters with 2 large barracuda, a very large Key West lionfish, 2 large green moray eels, and a porcupine fish as large as a human torso. The one barracuda was hanging around us divers way too much so I swam up to it and went starfish with my body. It sized me up, decided I/what I was spearfishing wasn't worth it, and swam off. Fish psychology award achieved! Lol! The dive master that was on the boat was like "You're crazy for swimming up to that 'cuda with a string of dead fish on your hip." I was just annoyed with it hovering in our area constantly and did what I do with sharks: big, slow body language that says "I'm the big guy". I've dealt with/encountered many kinds of sharks without a cage, as well. Many are like overly aggressive/pushy dogs, and if you have a breed like that (like I have dlhad in the past and had to train them to be good boys) you have a taste of how pushy the sharks can be. I love them. You just need to control them with them snouts and swim parallel with them, never behind or IN FRONT OF a shark. I've encountered other dangers of the sea like stingrays and poisonous/venomous fish, as well.

6:10 Answer: Yes, Europe does have native trout species and the most well known European species is brown trout. I’m from the UK and that is our native species. Most trout and salmon species in America are part of the “Oncorhynchus” genus (with 1 or 2 trout species in Asia)
@patrickdix772
@patrickdix772 10 ай бұрын
10:20 yeah, a Roman aqueduct has a very shallow slope, like 1:4800. That's less slope than a lot of rivers and steams go through that fish still swim through. Transition points in and out or cisterns is a different matter, but the aqueducts themselves would present absolutely no problems for a species of fish that swims upriver.
@MrBern91

so after minimal "research" there were fisheries established along aqueducts which suggests fish could enter and could theoretically swim freely? i dont know how the intake mechanism worked or if there even was a complex mechanism that could potentially block the fish from entering. but also most water obtained from aqueducts was from groundwater/natural springs, so no fishies
